YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE
When you walk through a storm,
hold your head up high,
and don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of the storm,
is the golden sky,
and the sweet silver song of the lark.
Walk on through the wind,
walk on through the rain,
Though your dreams be tossed and blown,
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart,
And you'll never walk alone,
you'll never walk alone

I'll be honest with you, pal
That's almost like a song I wrote about a year ago. Only better. Way, way better.
My mind's not clicking right now; who sings this one? Or is it original?

It's the fans of the English football club Liverpool.
Could possibly be someone else who made it, although "You'll Never Walk Alone" is the "slogan" of the club...

You'll never walk alone has quite a history (it's originally from a musical), but it's most famous version was in the 1960s from a Liverpool band called Gerry and the Pacemakers. They were a major British band in the early 60s having 3 consecutive number ones, one of which was "You'll never walk alone".
Liverpool adopted it as theirs right away (as did Celtic and Fulham but it kinda stuck at Liverpool for good), and have used it since. It came into special significance for them in the wake of the Hillsborough disaster. IIRC they re-released the song soon after with all proceeds going to a fund set up for the victims and their families.
Having said that, just how many threads do Liverpool fans need to fit their smug gloating in?
BTW, just how many of the Liverpool fans here are actually from Merseyside anyway? It seems from the locations like a lot of the supporters here are about as Scouse as I'm Chinese. I guess it's possible some have moved away from the area or something, so I was intruiged to know.

PH, you might want to know that a lot of people in Serbia enjoy English football (every weekend on TV!) and even consider themselves fans of Manchester United and Chelsea.

Norwegian state broadcasting started airing English football matches in the late 60's/ early 70's, if I recall correctly. It became a saturday ritual for nearly our entire nation. Eat porridge, watch English football.
Thus, an abnormally large number of Norwegians have abnormally strong feelings for English sides. Liverpool are very well represented, with ca. 20 000 fan club members, who pay membership fees, travel to games etc.
Of the 30,000+ Liverpool fans at the Atatürk stadium, more than 3,000 were Norwegians.
So we might not be scousers in flesh, but it's mersey water running through our veins just the same .

Wasn't it 1966 or '67?

I'm always rather against supporting a side not from your local area frankly. I happen to live within 5 miles of Goodison Park for example, and would never consider supporting a foriegn club on a long term basis. Just don't see the point in it frankly unless you've lived there or were born there. I happen to have lived in the area my entire life.
So I'm forever bemused by all these fans from other countries, a good chunk of whom have probably never even been to Liverpool (or Manchester, London etc) let alone been to Anfield or the respective ground with the exception of the dedicated fan club members. (though with Man U that hardly matters as you need to wait a LONG time to get a season ticket with them).

Get off your high horse.
There are no clubs worth watching in my national league. Besides, one club not worth mentioning has won the title the last 13 or so years. Not really crap-your-pants exciting. It looks like that's about to change, thankfully, but the potatoes haven't been hypped yet, so don't count your chickens and then shoot the bear.
I'm not going to wait for a Toffee fan's permission to rout for my club.

PH: Interesting point of view, especially considering that none of the big English clubs, or any of the other European ones for that matter, would be that big, if not for the foreign supporters.
But I guess that wouldn't necessarliy be a bad thing.
Gio: Hey, we're gonna take the pokal home to Lerkendal this year as well!

I'm total mexican 23 years old guy, and I live here in Mexico... and I never saw a Liverpool match in my life... just for TV... But I don't know why... but I feel passion for this team for years... more passion than my favourite mexican team, I remember when Robbie Fowler play with the reds... and in a game VS. New Castle United, Liverpool has an score of 3-1, in the last 15 minutes... Robbie and his reds with an spectacular comeback win the game 4-3 with a goal in the last minute... I just get in shock with how the fans still supporting them, and how the mans have the courage to still trying to win a game...
Don't ask me why I support a team from england and a team that I never saw in the field... just saw the magic at anfield with the fans, the colours, the mans, is just magic...

This is a forum for opinions, that was mine, and has been for a very long time regardless of nationality or recent events. I still think my Father is daft for supporting Manchester United despite never having lived there in his entire life and quite frequently tell him so.
You don't need any permission, I'm just stating my views that I think supporting a club you don't live near or see in the flesh too often (if at all) is amusing.
Don't like it? Tough
Quote: But I guess that wouldn't necessarliy be a bad thing.
Probably not no. I take the same view with Southerners supporting Man U, or Scots supporting Chelsea and so on. I think irregardless of the talent there, supporting your local side is still best. My club is Everton but I root for Tranmere also and try and support them by going to important games were I can because I know that doing so helps them, and frankly they need it more than Everton do.
I guess I've also seen too much of non-local supporters only supporting the club that happens to be the most popular or sucessful at the time and then disappear when the going gets tough. Supporting a club like Man United these last couple of decades from afar is easy. Supporting Everton close by for the last 20 years is torture. Some stay during hard times, but in my experience most don't.
Oh, and in case anyone's interested, I do sometimes also support Liverpool when there's no interest in the game for Everton. I did go and see them bring the cup home for example.
Didn't even boo or jeer once either

Oh, we supported our Red Star Belgrade when they were the champions of Europe in 1991. However, the civil war in former Yugoslavia destroyed many things, including the national football (although Partizan Belgrade did manage to beat Newcastle in England ).
Our football stars now play in foreign clubs, so a lot of people watch them and support their clubs. For example, Kezman in Chelsea etc.
P.S. Boys, this is just a topic about football on a HoMM forum. Let's be nice to each other.

"HOME to Lerkendal", Terje?
I seem to recall you claiming to be a Hedmarking! That, of course, was after you said you hated John Arne Riise because you came from Molde. I'm on to you.
Whatever happened to supporting your local club anyway?
Oh, and by the way: Get off your high horse is my opinion.

Such a shame then that I explained my position to be not based at all on smugness or any xenophobia but logic and loyalty, which makes your opinion rather baseless.
Still, feel free to hold it if it makes you feel better

Wow, the man who made this thread seems to have a lot of heart. As far as I can tell. It's a shame he's a member of this forum and it's a shame his tax money is probably going to the u.s. where they turn around and use his much needed money to pay army soliders to sit around and smoke dope all day and use his tax money to torture people for their inheritance and use his taxmoney to buy weapons they can use to go kill people for their natural resources.
Btw, that is a very awesome song, especially if you hear it coming from a really talented opera tenor. The first time i heard it was on one the cable stations, it was MHZ i think. There was this european guy singing it on some opera show. Blew me away.
