The only thing i donīt want anymore, are the "greens", the coalition partner of the social democrats for the last 7 years. They have some nice ideas, but they exaggerate extreme in all issues. They complain about the high oil price here in germany (1 litre = 1,40 Euro), but raised the taxes on oil enormous and called that "ecology taxes". Nearly 65% of our oil price here are pure taxes!

ALthough I could agree they exaggerate a bit on the ecological issues, I do think the Greens are party with vision and long-term thinking. I had an interesting opportunity to be present during one of their rallies, as well as having interesting talks with Germans, and my impression is they are very development oriented. They also put special emphasis on educational and technological progress, but supported and forwarded by government tax money. This is a long-term vision they offer for Germany in an ever more globalizing world (and imo, the only viable one), but doesnt stick to the ears of the common voter very much when confronted on the other side with promises of revitalized economy, once taxes are cut.
More liberal economic policies, forwarded by the CDU, dont offer much hope for the future. They would result in tax cuts, undermining the social state and the services it provides (this pulling consequences in all areas, health, education, infrastructure), increasing social inequality; in one word one step further towards the American adopted system of savage capitalism. But whats more important, the hopes of reanimating the German economy are rather unfounded. It's true that many busenismen would find relief in looser tax systems, but that wont keep them in Germany in the long run, because of the growing competition in Eastern Europe and other areas. An economical system without a strong development component, only based on taxes gymnastics is bound to last only until the next elections, when again the very same problems will be faced, still not addressed, only an even more stronger competition outside. And is there a better way to secure that development component than education and research? Certainly, no private company would give a damn about either of those.
