There are other funnier ways.
Let's say that you find a seer hut/quest guard etc., which asks you for some creatures (i.e. 5 hydras). Revisit the place with exactely the required creature (in our case with the 5 hydras). Complete the quest and watch the results.
Hilarious.

Course it does maretti. I know because I had an actual game where I surrendered with no units but the elementals and when I rehired the hero it had no units on it.

D'ye know you can't actually leave a town without troops?
It evens pop-ups a message saying: "The hero must recruit some creatures to protect him. The countryside is dangerous.". LOL!!!

I just tested.
Summon elemental doesn't work in SOD (Complete), but I've heard about that for years so it was probably fixed with one of the patches.
The witch hut still works though. If you move the creatureless hero into the garrison and back out the message is:
"This hero has no creatures. A hero must have creatures before he can brave the dangers of the countryside."

How to know, how many rounds will hostile spell stay on your unit (in combat)? Left click on your army during your turn and move cursor over the spell, you will see duration as a hint

wrong. I tested today, also hero Sorcery speciality add damage and also Air/Storm elementals receive more damage. Just got 2866 damage!

Ghost Hero Bug
..lol...looks like there are only honorable players around. Ok here is how the ghost hero bug works:
Let 2 Heroes with just 1 unit meet each other. Press the "Split Button" and hand-over one unit. Now you have one ghost hero.
More then easy dont you think!?
The bug/cheat was used by bulgarian players, when random maps got more and more common instead of fixed maps. They picked Ivor as main and every non-chain scout was transferred in a ghost hero.
A ghost hero equals a speed of 9 creature. As far as i remember (cause i never used this bug) there are also no pathfinding(terrain) penalties, but i can be wrong with this. So big advantage, big CHEAT.
They used it by putting one hero with one creature into the garrison and every new scout dismissed their creature on that hero with the split button. Thats why peeps think the garrison is needed for this bug, which is not.
Its pretty dump to use this bug, as it is easily to detect and it is/was seen as a CHEAT.

Yes, you can.
I forgot to mention: you do not need to have 1 unit, but you do need to have one stack on each hero.
In other words, you must get them in such a situation where the future ghost hero has just 1 unit in his army, while the other hero may have any number of units, but they must be in a single stack. Then split the 1 unit into any unoccupied slot of the other hero.

Cool. But there is a terrain penalty. Jabarkas-ghost had a single goblin but could not move as far on rough as on grass/dirt the next day.
