The Queen

~ the Haven scenario walkthrough ~

SPOILER WARNING!

Actually, the greatest spoiler is in the title itself...

I chose the Griffins as the starting bonus, although still have the impression it didn't matter much.

Godric should just follow the road to the north (if you start with resources, you'll be able to buy a minor artifact at the artifact merchant's along the road), capture the town and free Lady Isabel from the prison nearby.

The Inferno heroes (with armies of various rosters and strenght) will keep spawning mostly in the south, with your only town as their highest priority (only one demon lord strayed from his path in order to wander in the east). Demon lords usually arrive through two one-way portals (one in the south, the other in the east).

Therefore in the beginning always keep Isabel near the town. Build up according to the resources you got (I played at normal difficulty and was able to claim most of the mines too).

The creatures guarding the neighboring mines and resources won't put up much of a fight, not even several Bone Dragons guarding the gold mine just a few steps northwest of your base.

There are two subterranean gates (the southern one guarded by a stack of infamous Death Knights), but the underground is insignificant story wise. While Isabel could easily claim the treasure, Godric as a scout would merely waste his time.

I also revisited the artifact merchant to buy a few random artifacts for Isabel, but the purchase proved to be of no importance.

Defeat the creatures in front of the obelisk in the woods in the middle of the map, though. You will have to find Grail (Tear of Asha) in order to win the scenario. Meanwhile, send out Godric with a small army to find the other two obelisks and reveal the puzzle map. One obelisk is in the upper right corner, the other in the lower left corner of the map. I understand the ultimate artifact is placed randomly each time, though. In my case it was located south of the observatory in the central area (next to the road, one square south of the bush). Take the Tear of Asha to the town and build the structure. The heroes will gain a level each, too.

The text message says you should send Godric to meet King Nicolai alone (while Isabel would keep defending the town), but that might be a mistake. In my game a week of the Devil occured and a stack of two Devils blocked the path in the southern mountains. Luckily, I had sent Isabel to clear the road.

In addition, the Inferno is close here and two weak demon lords would have attacked Godric later on as well. I guess I should have given him an army, but decided to keep all the vital forces (aside from two stacks of Assassins and Hunters that had joined me) with Isabel. Thus it was she who flagged the garrison in the lower right corner of the map...

...but only Godric can trigger the final event and win the scenario.

I won't tell you the end, of course.

edit: typo

Nice post Vlaad

I was playing at the Heroic difficulty, and found that it is best to capture the gold mine before your first encounter with the red player, as this way you will likely be able to do it almost without losses and have that crucial gold.

First free Isabel from the prison. She has better stats than Godric, so give her all the troops, war machines and artifacts if any. Then let Isabel defeat the Shadow Dragons defending the mine, and after that use her to capture the Haven town.

I went with freeing Isabel, taking town, then taking gold mine. But works either way.

Addendum

If you capture the Inferno, you'll notice the game is not over. Even when you flag all the mines and dwellings owned by the AI, his heroes keep spawning and coming out through the portals.

Finally, there's still that garrison in the southeast. Defeating the guards there will trigger the final cutscene, though.

Minor bug: Once the mission objective has been completed, you cannot skip the final movie. If you choose to do so, each day you'll be shown that cutscene.

When you have one hero selected, move the cursor over the other hero, till it becomes a hand. Order him to proceed, and hero meeting screen appears.~

You need a knight hero in a knight town that has Training Grounds built. It's nicer if you have the Hall or Heroes built also since it will make it 40% cheaper and it's a rather expensive skill. You can then upgrade any of the human troops (lvl 1,2,3,5,6) to a higher tier if you have enough money. After the upgrade the creatures will be unupgraded, but that's a very small cost compared with the first cost. So let's say you have 50000gp, the armies all are bought out and you need to beef up your army after your recent loss. All that is left is 50 Peasants. You then click on the Training Grounds icon in the left ring and then the upgrade arrow under the unit the hero has on it. If the arrows are grey you have enough money to do it, if they are red try splitting your stack. Anyway in this example you can get your 50 Peasants up to Priests and then upgrade them to Inquisitors for the total cost of 49612gp.

If you then later want to upgrade your 50 Inquisitors to 50 Paladins it will cost an additional 73724gp, 58724 for the move to Cavaliers and then 15000 for the upgrade.

Puzzle..?

Hey.

- I have recently tried to find the grail, but when I have taken all the three obelisks I get a screen with a grail ( grail symbol ) and some grey/black outlines, which imo makes it"nearly" impposible ( for me) to locate it. Am I doing anything wrong ? I have tried to set everything to high ( details etc. ) but nothing happens.
- Help, anyone ?

Still puzzling ...

Hey.

- Well thanks for the heads-up guys. But I might have a bad videocard or something. For when I try to "puzzle" I DO get the map and all.. just that all is in blured.. e.g. I can't see the trail to the grail ( from a hero) nor a specific tag on the adventure map. And digging for 30 min could even make the Sane.. well UN-sane

- Guz

- BTW. maybe someone should look into the running into a castle, learning spells --- but that keeps showing after you leave the castle/hero.. kinda annoying... + stables.. when your as much a n00b as I and can't find it IN the castle.. you lose ( or could be, tournament-wise ) when you have to exit-enter to get the stable bonus.. maybe it's just me

- Stil thumbs up on this game ALL in ALL.

Perhaps i am doing something wrong in that Campaign, but i got crushed from the red player on day 7. He had already 6 devils and 13 nightmares. How the heck can u beat that in week 1??
I took town, prison, goldmine. Then went back for that "army post" or however it is called (where u can buy several highlevel units...).  My hero was placed near that building, red came out of the darkness in the south and attacked...

Getting dwelling on the way to castle perhaps a better choice, and defending in castle seems easier. Though haven't played on Heroic, prolly much harder that way.

What you think of the demo angelito?

Wait for the red in the town, not in the open.

Tried the town sitting tactic now...survived, but lost all cavs and griffs...start week 3, when i was revealing the map in the northeast, he again came out of the darkness with 1 Archdevil, 10 nightmares and other stuff and took over my town. Scenario lost....how often do u have to play that map to know all the things which happen?...starting to get a bit tired of that "restart scenario" style...

Strange Angelito cause I finished it right at my first try , after I took the town and freed Izabel I had split my army in two when Izabel gets the 10 cavs and Godric gets the rest of it and goes on to take the mines that I need.

Then I saw the red breaking the guards in the south and had to defend the town with only like 10 cavs and the army that I have not bought in the castle which is like 5 griffins, 3 monks and 20 footmen. And I managed to beat his army which had like 5 devils and some other stuff that I don't remember cause it was so ong ago...

Since this was my first map I had the autosave on. The computer attacked when I was a bit too far away sometimes and those times a save from two turns ago to go home fixed it most times. If turns take too long with the autosave a save or two per week should fix it (alternating between haven1, haven2 or haven3 in case a save is in a bad spot and he just happens to come out of the blue to kill godric after he digs up the grail *cough* didn't happen to me at all!*cough*). It's singleplayer after all, nothing wrong with a save unless you have some principle against using it. It saves time, if you want to beat a map with no information it has to be the first time since all further attempts will be easier than the first. Can always save and if you never load it will be the same thing. If you do have to load you've just saved a lot of time and can try to do it flawlessly the next run on the map instead.

Hello,

i had a few questions, i played the haven campaign to the last level, and have got the tear of Asha, and am going to the lower right corner. I also read in this thrad that when you kill the garrison of one of the two gates there you win, but when i take the lowest gate nothing happens and in the other gate are like 250 devils and so on, that is absolute madness to defeat, what do i have to do?

According to the story, Godric must pass through the garrison, not Isabel.
