Yeah, I saw that garrison too. Anytime you see an army that seems overly unreasonable in size it's just meant to be a wall and you'll always have to go around.

Its troublesome, but no challenge...
Alright, got me the Silver Edition (still had to load huge patches afterwards), figuring that my 1680x1050 display ought to enjoy HOMM as well. I've really dug HOMM III so far.
What strikes me about the first H5 campaign: As a tutorial for newbies it doesn't deliver much. Getting into HOMM III was much easier. I really would have run into problems without prior H3 exposure.
The mission objectives are the biggest problem: It just isn't clear what needs to be done. Neutral creatures sitting still are called scouts for no apparent reason. Nicolai is off the map thru some garrison. I would have been stuck in that last szenario for a whole while longer without referring to this thread. Thanks for putting it all up here.
So I'm leaning toward H3 right now, probably some SoD campaigns next. That's pure strategy without the "run around and click everything" puzzle solving of graphics adventures. If I'd wanted an adventure game, I could still be playing the old Infocom classics, that are now available as applets on the web.
A bit disgruntled...

Help! I'm stuck!
I can't win level 5. I've got Dunmoor fortified and everything, but after I rescue Isabell it all goes wrong! Agrael attacks and leaves my army gasping for breath, letting the next army kill me! the last time, I had won narrowly against 3 demon armies, one was Agrael, before dunmoor was captured and I lost. What I really need from you guys is a plan on what to do. "how do I get well fortified in time for the first attack?" is a main question, but I Also need recruitment strategies, battle plans, EVERYTHING that made you able to win. otherwise I might be so focused on them my self so that I won't notice I never got to Dunmoor. I am really desperate and need professional help if I can win! please, everyone pitch in! I'm getting desperate!

You probably waste your movement points. Is the path all grey?

Just a guess but I'm assuming this is happening because you haven't activated the quest by talking to the seer.

@ Don Ignacio: If you click on the quest objective you get a deeper write up on the right hand side.
@ The guy who can't get into the crypt is probably experiencing the bug that doesn't let you get into the crypt. Should restart the mission (if you have done the seer stuff like blink asked).
@ The guy who can't hold dunmoor, which hero are you using, and what difficulty level?

Well if you are still around I can tell you what I did. You need to have built up Isabel strongly before the mission, in the previous four missions. Try to take skills that will help in the fights against the demons such as defense, and war machines (make sure she has some, on easy you should be able to afford it.
Then, get Godric out of the way, and let Isabel beat Agrael from inside Dunmoor...she should take the castle too. Once you've secured it from the first attack, give most of the army to Godric and then have Isabel scout around to accomplish the next objective.
If you need more help let us know.
By the way the campaigns aren't typical, I find multiplayer maps to be much more fun.

I did everything until Agrael attacked. The result of the battle is that I only had 8 calaviers left. :'(

im probably not that clever, because i cant find a F**king way out on the fourth chapter of the haven campain.
It says find out the elven army
Thanks in advance
I can't find the elven army either. I still have a large unexplored part in the SW of the map that I can;t reach. I don't see way to get there. I do have the boots of levitation but I haven't met the elves yet either.
Quicky after the start of the map I didn't go over that mountain with demons but went right and north and circled around the mountain to capture Brightwood.
Me neither. King Alaron is nowhere to be found on the map or underground. I've explored it all, including the demon mountain. I can't find a way to the SW of the map either. If I cross the bridge with this
objective uncompleted, after the cutscene the game says "Mission completed" but it won't let me start the new mission. Ppl, pls HEEELP!
look, all u gotta do is follow the quest objectives, and once it says get the boots of levitation, u go get them, once u got them you walk to the west wen ur at the top of da screen (very north) and u will see a broken bridge with a cut scene, or maybe u already have?? after that u should be able to see the other side of da land past the bridge, just tell ur person to walk to the other side with the boots equiped (they let you walk on water as long as you stop on more land).then just keep travelling west. problem solved
litle add. the boots of levitation is underground

In order to dig, your Hero needs to:
- Have no movement path whatsoever;
- Have full movement points available (i.e. like at the start of your turn);
Digging takes all your movement points, so you need to have them all. The "dig" icon is in the same spot on the icon wheel in the bottom right as the "move" icon, which is why your Hero must not have a movement path at all. Clear it to get the dig icon. Clearing your movement path goes by left-clicking on your Hero.

I'm using hof.In the haven campaign I am stuck at the third mission.
I conquered two cities and am getting ready to get the third one on the upper right corner.as soon as I arrive there is a hero with 11 cavaliers,70 marksmen and,100 conscripts,35 griffins and 60 squires.I have many renegade troops but not enough he outnumbers me 3 to 1.
It's really strange because not even a month has passed.
Is there a way to win without spending 2 much time? When I wait and try to gather more forces the town sends a 16 level hero and defeats me.
Please help me

It's Duncan, right? No, I'm not talking to myself, just checking the mission's name
My suspicion is that you did poor in creeping. You didn't start the mission from scratch, already given a bunch of troops. Preserve them when battling Neutrals. Also, tell us how you built your Freyda. Have you maxed her Light & Dark? Mass Haste, Mass Righteous Might & Confusion should suffice to help you take that castle. Actually, later, Duncan in the upper left should concern you more.

Thanks Duncan but I restarted the game and strangely destroyed all the cities.Tried a different tactic. I conquered the first 2 cities in the firs week and before he could receive reinforcements destroyed him.
I was so lucky!!!!

Glad to hear that Happens to me quite a few times as well, sometimes frustrating when facing a mission seemingly impossible. When that happens the best thing to do is to distance from the game, contemplate a while as to what could be the better tactic. And when the new (and better) tactic works, that always gives a distinct satisfaction
Though you were successful rushing the enemy, don't forget to properly build Freyda. It's important for her later missions which are much tougher. You are yet to face the hardest part/mission of the game, Laszlo

Yes now I am having another problem.
This time with the fourth mission.I didn't destroy all the rebels before talking with the dwarves and so now Laszlo has taken care of them.I've just passed the weird tower that asks me to get all the dwarven artifacts and I turned right. After a few steps I encounter a intersection that goes to the left to many phoenixes and to the right to rune patriarchs(swarms).I have 5 paladins,73marksmen,59 bear riders(brown),14 inquisitors,150 squires,160 conscripts.
How am I supposed to beat 3 swarms of rune patriarchs?
Oh and also I wanted to know why is it that Freyda always asks what happened to the angels and why are there none?
Thanks
P.S.about the campaign the question really should be:"where the hell am I supposed to go?I'm LOST
