Well if they would have been 1 square then there wouldn't be THAT weak without those spells. But the way they are now, large creatures, without those spells they would be almost useless since they get blocked too easy.

I honestly don't suffer from getting blocked as much as Elvin mentions. If I did, I'd hate it more because Archliches are my favorite unit in the whole game. They exude coolness.

I Like Liches the most from the Necropolis Castle, but when comparing them to other Spell casting units (Druids for ex), Then Well... i know they are a Tier lower but the lighting bolt does wonders in early creeping, and +12 Endurence later on is much better than -9 Attack and adv suffering. But that is jut my opinion, Liches make it up with thier Dmg

Actually they rarely do. Vs a human player you cannot hope to shoot with them more than once so you'll soon have to revert to spellcasting. As for suffering it is pretty good, especially when facing factions that are likely to get RM. That brings attack from +12 to -9 which is huge.

So You Say that When a unit has RM on it and you cast Suffering the spells arent both on the unit (+12 -9 =+3 attack overall) Well then now Its starting to make sense.
If you are constantly beeing blocked, then why bother on using ArchLiches, Lich masters also have suffering and Rise dead and with quite decent spellpower

wow i can't believe i lost with Orson yesterday!
i had 200 skeleton warriors and 100 rot zombies with scattered single unit plague zombies. i had the ring of vitality and boots of speed and of course Orson himself has vitality and defense. no destructive spells at all.
i fought another necromancer who was a few levels ahead of me, had scattered groups of vampires and liches, but his biggest groups were 125 skeleton warriors and 50 poltergeists and 25 plague zombies.
after my initial strike on his skeleton warriors, i was confident that i could beat him, but his dark magic reduced my zombies and skeletons to 0 attack and 0 defense! combined they were killing 1-2 poltergeists per attack(if they hit!). it was ridiculous.
needless to say, i lost horribly.
i think there should be some better way for boosting necromantic units, because a dark knight with both light boosts(+nasty stormwind) and dark curses will just obliterate necromantic forces

I would assume that any hero with access to light and dark magic would win any match that included comparable armies.
Still, I would think that you'd loose just because of the poltergeists. Incorporeal ability is more frequent than you think.

Thing is, you need some magic school. A necromancer without any skills in a magic school is kinda weak.

Humans who run to block Liches get beatdown by the entire necro army which, except for Vamp Princes, couldn't cross the field to hit anyone anyway. Heck, even the zombies might get a hit in if you cast mass slow soon enough.

If you have Raise dead you basically own as them. I really never had trouble. Vampires, Zombies, Liches, baby. I, personally, love the Necro.

Whats to like about Zombies?
I always Use them as a "living" wall durring Early creeping, in the Final battle, i just pres "W" on them
Anyway, Now that i have 3.1 i can see the Diffrence in the Banshees Special, and combined with some bonuses like Death set Cloak or Banshee Howl the dmg multiplayer can get quite decent, on Paper that is, and therefore my question is, is it worth to have Banshees in large games, when wight special is not so special??

Haven: Wraith
1)Paladins can reduce your stack to 0 in one lucky move. Banshee's Special looses power, Wraiths are still a threat
2)late game Haven = high morale. All you can do is to try reduce it but still - makes Banshees less usefull
3)Magical Immunity to prevent a Puppet/Frenzy here and there? Or just debuff Haste/Righeous Might/Vampirism from the crazy horsies? Wraith all the way
Inferno: Banshee
1)Unlikely to have high Morale or to buff it's unit (except for Vampirism) - score one for Banshee
2)very likely to gate in more troops + making it harder to move.
Banshees again
Sylvan: Wraith
1)Basically it's the same case as Haven which makes Wraith the better pick, although you might face a Destructive build which makes the Wraith/Banshee choice a matter of less importance
2)a high Defense hero + defending Treants at the end of battle. I just love Harm Touch in those cases
Dungeon
1)When facing Destructive the more hp the better - Banshee
2)When facing a Phoenix - Wraith. Works well on Blackies too
best to scout ahead what's the Warlock build.
Academy: Wraith
1)Likely to buff - Wraith
2)Likely to summon a Phoenix - Wraith
3)Likely to go Destructive - Banshee
I personally would go for Wraith
Fortress: Wraith
1)Likely to buff - Wraith
2)Likely to have high Morale - Wraith
3)Magma Drags are a pain to take down - Wraith
4)Likely Destructive but the Spellpower isn't that scary. and Magmas are still there
Orcs:
1)Likely high Morale - Wraith
2)Will not buff - Banshee
3)after the initial charge there won't be many Banshees/Wraiths left - Wraiths
4)Harm Touch still kills one creautre taking Rage along the way, so Rage won't defend you againts it - Wraith
5)Death Wail does a good job keeping Rage toned down on multiple stacks - Banshee
I won't even start with Necro, the choice is obvoius
Againts Haven/Fortress/Sylvan/Necro Wraith is a must in my opinion.
Againts Inferno Banshee is way more effective.
Againts Academy/Dungeon/Orcs is a matter of taste.

I think lichs are big because they have the best stats for a level 5 shooter. they have the highest damage of any tier 5 unit (except maybe mummy) + death cloud. well, of course they aren't that impressive in melee, but as a small creature they would probably have been imba.

I don't play online, so I haven't really fought real people, but I've had alot of uses for zombies. They're great tanks, if you can get the enemy o attack them. They're also the perfect archer protectors. They are non-aggressive and very durable.
When an enemy attacks them, I think "only lost zombies, who cares?"
They can really help alot imo.

Istead of zombies try 2 stacks of ghosts with last stand. Now that's an annoying blocker. Or 2 Vampire stacks Torporing the enemy into oblivion. Zombies are good only when you're facing destructive magic which makes every bit of hp count

But if you split vamps into 2 squads, thier torpor ability will loose much.
Secondly, I alwasy have bad luck and i'm always geeting attacked by creatures that can attack 2 tiles (champs, cerberus etc)
I like spliting zombies and liches when creeping (i know 2 stacks of liches greatly reduce your deployment zone.

A Phoenix or 200 Shieldguards or 8 Blackies
The chance of it triggering is so ridiculously high even for low number of vamps. Watch some replays from Duel Map Tournament and you'll see what I mean
