Ever heard the statement " the more snowed up a musicians instrument is the crapppier of a musician"
All I need for my own satisfaction is Slash with his Black Travis Bean.

Sorry for spamming, dude, but I've found a perfect guitar for you
It is a bastard of heavy metal and BB code!
LMAO ! It's really hilarious, thx for sharing dude ! I have seen many weird guitars in my life, but this one beats them all by far, honest. But I'd rather not use this kind of ultra strange designs, since I actually take the music I make very seriously. Most of my songs are violent and/or deep and sad. So playing them on such a funny instrument would feel like laughing out loud in the middle of some kind of ceremony... Quote: To keep this on topic, which band could that be?
Damned if I know !
From the pic only, I'd say some rather recent band, probably not too extreme style wise. Maybe some very technical prog metal band in the league of Dream Theater or Symphony X ? Wild guess, really. At any rate, if their axemen uses this custom guitar as a recurring gimmick, then I've never seen this band before. Maybe heard, though !Quote: Ever heard the statement " the more snowed up a musicians instrument is the crapppier of a musician"
Don't you go judge a book by its cover, dude ! Especially in these highly marketted times. Often times when a cover looks just TOO good to be true, it'll turn out the cover was indeed the only thing good about the book. But you can't make it a rule.
As far as appearances go, metal SURE had more than its share of embarrassing clichés over the years. Ridiculously over-the-top custom instruments are just one example amongst a virtually endless list. It's crucial to know how to close your eyes and LISTEN to the music if you don't want to miss most of the great stuff ! If you actually need examples of fantastic bands and musicians with cheesy looks on stage, don't hesitate to ask ! Quote: All I need for my own satisfaction is Slash with his Black Travis Bean.
Hmmm. I don't share this feeling. Slash is a pretty decent guitarist who was lucky enough to be involved in a highly successful band early in his carreer. He sure can come up with solid guitar solos, but that's about it. Below average songmaker, he always stayed true to a basic hard n heavy formula without developping a very personnal style. And even as axeman, he is overall pretty generic and redundant in his leads imho. Besides, he mostly always used a Gibson Les Paul, to my knowledge (at least during the GNR days).
I'm much happier with good old me playing my late 80's Yamaha folk guitar !

i agree with the slash assesment. hes not bad but i wasnt taken with his writing after my favorite album which was appitite for destruction and im not sure how much of that was him and how much of it was izzy or the guy from LA Guns.
the last metallica album for me was master of puppets
big zepplin props here
i speak in opinion only. there were many different types of distortion i listen to now not all of which are metal most of which i can listen to all except nu-metal & post 80's glam (faster pussycat, pretty boy floyd) that come with the machinery. all disclaimers en row
i play all common band instruments except the sax
and use a few different sequencers

Exactly what you said ! This band had already had many line-up and direction changes before their groundbreaking debut. And given the "all team up in the rehearsal room" songmaking method they used (at least at the time), it's much more than likely that former members deserve at least some credits for <Appetite>. At any rate, for me G'N'R might as well have splitted right after its release.Quote: the last metallica album for me was master of puppets
I dwell as far as <...And Justice> actually. Sure, it's overall far inferior to the previous three. Sure, it's less pure, less thrash, less metal and less inspired. Sure, it's more progressive, more radio-friendly and more technical. Sure it's overproduced. Sure, it clearly shows how low the highly ambitious pair of Hetfield/Ulrich turned out to be after they finally ran out of original lead guitarist Dave Mustaine's songs and ideas to pillage. Still, it's not yet a high treason album like the 1991 one was. Still, <<Blackened>> is a genuine thrash hymn (thx to new recruit Jason Newsted, fresh out of the then-impressive technical thrash band Flotsam N Jetsam). Still, pretty good songs like <<One>>, <<Harvester Of Sorrow>> or the title track are nothing to be ashamed of in themselves, imho. All in all, an okay album worth getting if only for <<Blackened>>. Its handful of ugly commercial-driven fillers makes it a tough challenge to listen to as a whole, though, I'll give you that ! Quote:

Always a nice start. Ever heard of Black Sabbath, yet ? Quote: metal most of which i can listen to all except nu-metal & post 80's glam
That's because this is NOT metal, man !
It's just the socalled metal niche of the mass mainstream greedy market !!! Quote: i play all common band instruments except the sax

Good to know. I wouldn't call sax a common band instrument, though. Not on a metal pov, at least. Even though a very small number of metal albums did include sax, most notably the norweggian cult death metal band CADAVER's debut <Hallucinating Anxiety> in 1990. I´ll give you that one regarding the Travis Bean, true. Yes Slash uses Gibsons mostly but what I said was Slash and the black Travis Bean is all I need for MY satisfaction not only cause its a cool looking and highly regarded axe add to the eq. that Slash makes great licks.
And as far as song contribution goes the main of Guns tunes were written by Izzy and Axl.

Every single time you write "hail to you both" "hail this and that"
it brings tears to my eyes. Tears of laughter, maybe we should drop this Halford-esque image?
Sure leather and chains is part of heavy metal but not in the form of a rig and a whip!

Dude ! It's more Manowar-esque, for starters. And well, the folklore is part of the fun.
Long Live The Bleeding Loud !
PS : Sorry guys, had to censor the cover a bit to fit HC's CoC.

I think you mean metal isn't popular.
That's true - it's always been like this and imo there's nothing wrong with that. Not everyone can handle the power of Rock/Metal.

I get bashed aswell for listening to metal. Got in pretty tough fights.
Anyways... going back to the real subject.
Today I discovered ArchEnemy and its beautiful lead singer Angela Gossow.ArchEnemy is a death metal band, Angela Gossow being one of the few female metal singers to use death growl as her primary singing style.
Here you go,Angela Gossow
As all time favorite bands, I would go for softer bands like Iced Earth or Ayreon.
Regarding Iced Earth, they are an american dark heavy metal band lead by Jon Schaffer. Now its vocal is ex-Judas Priest Tim 'Rippers' Owens who was used on Iced Earth last album The Glorious Burden. Tim Owens was hired after 'metal-god' Matt Barlow left.
Ayreon is not actually a band, it's more of a project lead by Arjen Lucassen. He recorded a few albums with different singers around the world from other bands and was much appreciated for his work. Some of the more known names who worked with him are:Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth) or Devin Townsend (Strapping Young Lad/The Devin Townsend Band )

Geny, I meant what I said..
Metal isn't cool anymore, regardless of popularity. You're not going to win any friends or girls by listening to metal nowadays.
I think that the emo's are to blame. Anything that's not all sunshine now gets labeled as 'emo', and with that bad reputation it's just gone down the drain.
That and there's hardly any new metal coming out to challenge it. It's becoming an a relic of days past.

Yes it does. Listening to metal won't make you great and funny and all the rest, but it surely gives a plus. Or it did give me regarding girls
Also the influence of death metal made me a bit more confident and since I listen to it for 10 years, I won't give up now. I don't know how is it in Australia, but Europe is pretty much still under the vibe of the metal sound. Festivals over festivals.

This is partly true. If talking about post 90s metal in general it's totally wrong. Many bands have show n their talent over the years and it got pretty good. The boom of genres and diversity at the start of the 90s is the real proof.
If talking about post 2000 metal scene. Its mostly true. With all the buzz sorrounding pseudo-metal bands like Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit and others, the metal scene has lost its attention. Also quality is lost to the numerous number of bands present and seems that rarely any good band arises but only for 1-2 albums afterwards they go down.

I meant that there is not as much metal produced as before, you agree with that.
I wouldn't class Limp Bizkit as metal.
And all I'm saying is that if you are an advocate of death metal at my school you will probably be an outcast
