Quote: So I don't care whether something might "technically" be Blood Metal, Dumb Metal, **** Metal, Magic Metal or No Metal, but only whether it rocks or sucks, those being the most important labels of them all.
I love metal as long as it has:
- decent lyrics
- no growl
- is melodic enough (I don't like the so called "art" in music, I want it to be catchy...)
- has a melodic line that can be easily followed (no overdone, complicated music for me).
Which means I stick to bands like Sonata Arctica and Dragonforce when it comes to metal.
And I don't like Metallica. Sorry

Dragonforce is rather simple, catchy music. The guitar solos are sometimes overdone, true, but if they are, I just skip them.
And some solos of Dragonforce are simple and good: Revolution Deathsquad, for example; one of my favorite solos ever

Symphony metal... Are there any bands besides Apocalyptica and Nightwish?
As for me, I listen to these bands most of the time:
AC/DC(hard rock, which ROCKS!)
Apocalyptica
Black Sabbath(The First of metal)
Def Leppard(more hard rock!)
Finntroll
Guns'n'Roses
Iron Maiden(occasionally)
Korn
Korpiklaani(you just got to like those drunk forest dwelling vikings )
Led Zeppelin(yet another hard rock!)
Linkin Park(is it nu metal or rap metal? )
Lordi(yeah, I like them, so throw a stone at me)
Metallica(proud to be addicted)
Nightwish
Nazareth(even more hard rock!)
Rammstein
Rob Zombie
Satyricon(Thanks to wog_edn for helping me discover them)
as you see my playlist is full of different styles, from hard rock to black metal. I'm very flexible
Call me a hermit, but when Blaze Bayley dropped out of Iron Maiden? O.o

Dude, if that solo is simple to you, then I take off my hat to you as possibly the greatest guitar god of our age.

Kamelot... my favourite band. If it has to be labeled they're Symphonic Power-Metal.

Bak, that solo is definitively very difficult to perform, but I meant that is it simple to the ear..

THE BRIEF ILLUSTRATED HISTORY OF ROCK
THE ROOTS
THE GOLDEN AGE
THE TIME OF INNER STRUGGLES; THE BIRTH OF METAL
BATTLING THE INEVITABLE DOOM
SPAWNS OF THE ENDTIMES AND THE DEATH OF ROCK'N'ROLL
There's been new hope lately, indications of the rise from the ashes - such as new AC/DC, Motley Crue and Metallica albums. But the future of good music is cloudy and uncertain, and only time will tell.

Hehe, Black Ice and Death Magnetic are good, but IMO Black Ice doesn't charge you with that explosive energy anymore. But then again, maybe it's just me.

- Epica
- Testament
and others (also other styles)

For the sake of the argument and all the Metallica fans here: you all know Metallica's Whiplash, from their first album Kill 'em All. Incidentally Motörhead covered it - and they are doing it better. Of course that's only my opinion. But if you don't know the Motörhead version, before you get a fit, listen to it.

Motorhead covered Enter Sandman too.
It sounds better because Metallica's a band, while Lemmy happens to be a god.

I found a new band, me happy
It's a japanese melodic death metal band called Blood Stain Child, anyone heard of it?
They've got this mix of trance, dance and death vocals that I just love. If you have to give them a sub-genre they'd be something like Techno Melodic Trance/Dance Death Metal.
Here's a song: Blood Stain Child - Innocence
It's not really your typical metal but anyway.

Yeah I found it in a Devil May Cry combo video, so it's game related
Actually I found Kamelot that way too... in a DMC combo video, kinda weird. Devil May Cry players share my music taste
