Nathir does indeed disappoint.  With a 20 spellpower and at level 32, his armageddon does 700 damage.  If you can't kill all your enemies in 2 rounds, say goodbye to Nathir.

u sure of that?? 20 spellpower  of lv 32?? i don't think u take enlightment for him, do u? and 20 spellpower mean 630 damage armageddon then it jump to only 700 with his specialty? it's not reach even 1% damage per lv.
As gargoyle and golem r usually 2 last target for academy enemy.(Titan Djinn Archmage and Gremlin r far more damaging.) Fight until other stack die and left alone gargoyle and golem.Begin armageddon after that other stacks that sacrifice to put enemy threat down.Their weaken stacks may be can't win the damage race against armageddon(gargoyle won't get hit and golem just take 25% damage). Before that just play other spell smartly(mark of wizard sound good too)

Another interesting tidbit I discovered, if a Minotaur attacks a Unicorn and gets blinded on the retaliation to the first swing, they will still get in the second swing.

Just my 2 cents' worth  - this is an old thread but I'm sure there's plenty more 2 B said on good creature duels.

My fave: a single stack of hydras attacks a large party of griffins or other fliers.  Auto combat and wham - they fly in on the hydras and are gone in a couple of rounds (use to like to attack ghosts on old HOMM - the ones that multiplied)

I would be interested to hear what other creature duels are out there for HOMM V...

One I used pretty recently:It is fun casting exp frenzy on your units for that +33% damage!Frenzied pitlords for instance These guys can  mutiply like rabbits during a battle.Your starting stack can gate another.Archdevils can summon yet another from friendly bodies(if there is such a thing) which can gate too.4 stacks total unless there are more archdevils/pitlords out there.Get ultimate gating, gate mastery, swarming gate(maybe build infernal loom too)and enjoy!

Titans and mass slow are an excellent combination for whittling down enemy troops, especially if they're high-level.

heres a good 1, how to beat 10 cavaliers (or genies, unicorns, and other large melee creatures) day 7 with necromancers

ok all you need is 5 ghosts, (2 in an ideal battle arena) and about 60 skeleton archers, and last but not least, the resurecting hero. now use this formation for the top corner.

[SGX]     s = 60+ skell archers
[ZGX]     z = zombie stack
[GGX]     g = 1 ghost... yep 1

now you surround your archers and zombies with 1 ghost in every square around them, and when they finally kill 1 you can A) move another ghost from somewhere else into that spot or B) resurect the ghost and keep shooting with the archers.

it was pretty simple, but when i did it i lost all my war machines lol (i forgot about them) but yeah, 10 cavaliers (2 stacks of 5) lost to 60 skeletons, 20 zombies and 4 ghosts. and i lost... NO UNITS!

so yeah... easy way to clear real tough units for early super artifacts and resources when you are necro.

p.s. try to level up a bit first, to like level 5 and find knowledge stones for more resurections.

the Paladins

a nice strategy with Haven for kicking hard to beat ranged units with very few troops is using paladins, you need only four of them :

So you split them into two stacks of 2 paladins each, and you start healing one stack with the other, and you let the hero kill the ranged  creatures.

Now see that's what I'm talking about!

Hard to say which one of those kicks the most arse.

TowerLord: Novel and awesome idea of taking down ranged attackers with something other than fliers, never would have thought of that with the Paladins.

Scooter: Dang, that is brilliant with the single ressurecting ghosts protecting the skellies and taking down more massive foes.

Hyuga: I can imagine a bunch of lumbering Pit Lords succumbing to a line of Titans...

Elvin: Wow that is a mischevous and deadly plot with frenzied Pit Lords and the gating...

Now if I can only remember these when the opportunity arises

The Well

If you're a Ranger and you find out of mana, far away from home, no wells nearby, and you have druid elders in your army, fight an easy creature on the map, that you can handle without the druids, and split the druids in as many stacks as you can, and when their turn comes, cast mana feed ... And try to make the battle as long as possible to mana feed all their mana. 1 druid will mana feed only 1 mana/turn

Never would have thought of that.

I do something similar with Deep Hydras. Since they can raise their own, use only your hydra stack as dungeon when fighting ranged creeps. Have the hydras keep defending while you bomb the creeps. When you get it down to something like 1 archer, wait it out till the hydra regens back all its guys, then finish it off.

Sylvan defending a castle siege

On both ends of the moat, there is one square that has 2 squares of moat directly in front of it. I like to split my sprites into 2 stacks, one starting at each end, and fly one to each of those corner squares. Sensing the opportunity for a free hit, the AI will charge my sprites only to get entangled before them. After the rush, I fly my sprites back inside while the AI's units keep taking it every turn from the moat and the full damage hunters and druids now in front of them.

Probably most of you already know that one but maybe I will help someone to counter that **** Heaven faction…

There is a terrible need of countering Paladins because their jousting bonus kills stacks immediately. How? Just put one Blood Fury just in front of the Paladin and BLOCK him. The point is not to block them totally but just to waste one point of their speed. That way Paladins loose their precious jousting bonus because they can’t reach another side of the battlefield in one move. Blood Furies usually start the battle just before the Paladins and that way they have to ruin their first move. You will buy some time and will be able to kill more Paladins next move.

The silliest thing to do is kill that poor Fury with like 12 Paladins

Yeah waiting is the best solution in this case. On the other hand if you wait I have already got some advantage for my army. I just got myself a chanse to attack your Paladins with my Grim Raiders first (before Paladins attacked my units at full strength). I mean I used my "undefencing bonus" before you used your "jousting bonus".

In general if you use "wait" function against Dungeon army you grant them extra chanse to win the battle (because Dungeons defence is minimum and the attack is maximum).

I can see that. I usually dislike charging with Grims because you get 1 good hit then the enemy massacres them before they get another turn because hydras are too slow to support them.

Yeah.. I hate attacking with Grim Riders also. They die like flies after the first attack. Like flies = like Furies

But in the final battle there is no other option  You have to hit them first couse then they hit you you are dead..

In fact attacking with everything you have, going straight into the death saves you more creatures.

HA!im only 12 years old but im a very good HOMM5 player.listen to this cool trick:if u have mostly range units, they are usefuull in sieges but its when you have a LOT of them is when it gets fun.u see, using only 500+ marksmen, destroy ur opponents catapult before it can get to ur walls and destroy em.this way,u can take out other of ur opponents ranged unists and his meelee walkers wont even have a chance to fight (make sure all ur walls ar intact and ur opponent doesnt have the earthquake spell)this strtegy is narrow, nonethless usefull against factions with lack of walkers or ranged units or eve units with low defence.(ex the dungeon or the inferno,)

Well....... time to add in the well known Necro tricks!

A necromancer without Battle Frenzy is not a good necromancer, mainly because of the insane low level stacks(500 skels = 1000+ damage, then the modifiers adds on more O.o)

How to mass skeletons: Allways attack the stacks that is likely to give non-upgraded skeletons, because the ressurection will comsume minimal Dark Energy meaning you can get a huge stack of skelly's very fast. And after getting bored, upgrade to archers. If you have rezzed 500 skelly's, then you got 500+ shooters to your army.
Rezzing higher creatures is usually way too expensive however

I bet everybody knew em <.<
