Well....... time to add in the well known Necro tricks!
A necromancer without Battle Frenzy is not a good necromancer, mainly because of the insane low level stacks(500 skels = 1000+ damage, then the modifiers adds on more O.o)
How to mass skeletons: Allways attack the stacks that is likely to give non-upgraded skeletons, because the ressurection will comsume minimal Dark Energy meaning you can get a huge stack of skelly's very fast. And after getting bored, upgrade to archers. If you have rezzed 500 skelly's, then you got 500+ shooters to your army.
Rezzing higher creatures is usually way too expensive however
I bet everybody knew em <.<

And the grand result will be, that you end up with an army of 500 Skeleton Archers - which sucks bigtime.

Yeah, seriously go for Skeleton warriors, much higher damage and defence, and they can also shield others.

I like skelly archers, only if i got Battle Frenzy however
500 skelly's is just a number mentioned, it can easly be alot more if you can find hordes of fitting lvl1 units(peasants is ideal).

A good way for Inferno to clean the map early:
Choose Deleb (YEah, I know what u think now, but wait)
Get as fast as you can the Tier 3 Upgrade and recruit Firehounds.
With Deleb, you get all Warmachine Skills. In battles against small units, you run away with your only stacks, the Firehounds (You can attack also if you're fast enought which happens often)and the Ballista and the Hero do the rest.
Against big units, place the Firehounds in an edge and gate Firehounds next to them so that Big units can't reach the real Firehounds. And here's the trick: Enemies will attack the Ballista and not the faked Firehounds.
Against shooters, you put the Firehounds out in the Tactic-Mode and put in 5 or 6 single imps. When they can do sth., they try to gate next to the shooters. Like that, you'll loose a few imps or demons, but better than firehounds ^^
Works with Grok and Grawl also and good, but Deleb is the best.

No real tricks up my sleeve (to best of my knowledge at least) I play mainly Haven and Inferno, so am really only knowledgeable about them. Mostly its just a nasty creeping tactic but in Haven you can get enough resurrection stuff going (Tent, Heroes light magic: Regen, and Res, Archangels, Paladins healing then easy res'ing, etc) and defense that you can literally go fight, lose tons, do your res tricks and walk away un hurt you can generally do a better Job then the Necro even in my experience.
Also, most of you may know this, but I was recently reminded about the Pit Fiends that come from the Devil's ability, staying around after combat. Just thought I'd throw that out there, I found it neat.

Well, it depends on the situation I think. If you fight against dwarves, I'd always recommend the untamed, but in general they are very dangerous, especially if the enemy has dark magic...

well, I have very little experience with necropolis, but it seemed to me that spectres / poltergeists were the best deal with the dark energy.

seriously? I thought they would vanish after the end of the battle?
that would surprise me if you could use the same strategy as in homm3 and sacrifice all your horned demons to make a huge army of balors.

Yeah, I heard something about you being able to do it in tribes of the East, I KNOW you couldn't do in hammers of Fate (bad story, don't ask), but I do seem to remember doing it one time while playing tribes and the Fiends stuck around (I don't think it meant anything to me at the time though)...I'll have to comfirm it for ya, though I believe its true...makes since in a way for the 'raise pit lord' ability to really res them, it wouldn't be over powered either since a devil stack can only do it once per combat if I recall.

Since someone else put up an Armageddon strategy... then I think this one fits:
The Arma-Golem strategy:
Razzak built with focus on Defense + Armageddon + Huge stack of Magnetic Golems.
Magnatic Golems are immune to mind-effects, immune to poison, Immune to Morale, and not only immune to 99% of all magic in the game (including debuffs), but they soak magical damage as healing, with resurrection, but without the penalty from it. Armageddon does trigger the healing ability, if the golem isn't under the rock in the middle of the battlefield.
Focus on getting Destructive magic up, and building the Golems' Defense. It's possible to get it PAST other Factions' Tier-7 Defense, including Magma Dragons, the highest in the game (IIRC). I've had it as high as the low 70's, meaning every hit they took was reduced by well over half when you add in the Evasion and Defense skills.

fortunately I can think of a counter (according to what you say)
teleport them right under the meteor with an archdemon
(well, of course, if the opponent isn't too retarded, he will probably cast something else than an armaggeddon in that case)

By the time you do that it can take a while. Besides there are so many cheesy ways around it, fire resistance, dwarven smithy hammer, ice shield, resistance + boots + armour of forgotten hero..

It'd be weak against heavy Light.
Haste + anti-magic + the two blesses that boost damage and attack + a heavy-hitting unit (seraphs come to mind) > your Golems.
I don't know to what extent the anti-magic spell really works against armageddon (excluding the meteor strike which IIRC is physical), but it's probably not that weak.

I doubt you can bless an unit immune to magic. I also think it removes all the blesses.
but the black dragon is like the best unit in the game anyway (or maybe it the phoenix?) the magma dragon is tougher, ok, but loses because of slowness.

yeah, but your solutions are too predictable
by the way, how often do you find the armour of forgotten hero?
you could also get your arcane archer to score a lucky shot against favoured enemy golem and kill them all in one move despite their insane defence
you could also use riders to reduce their defence to 0, but I guess they would be protected by rakshasas.
hum, drain the mana with familiars/vermins (but that's a lots of mana to drain)
block the armaggeddon spell with zoltan?
play with dwarfs...
assault teleport marksmen at point blank range (if they aren't all dead yet)
oh yeah, forgot the nasty gremlins.
choose vittorio or deleb to force him to choose the saboteurs
