Doom, an old 3D shotting game, is perhaps one of the best I have ever played, virtually every gamer has played this game.
It has good music, good gameplay but not so good graphics, but graphics isn't everything, gameplay is, without good gameplay you get a crap game, or no game at all
i am pretty sure there is a mod that will work william
(if you have the right version on CD) that allows you
to play doom 1 and 2 using the Quake 3 engine graphics.
I dont have the link unfortunately but perhaps someone
else here might know.

Whoa that would be pretty awesome, but then if you have that good graphics, you can find even better with Doom 3.
But graphics in games is not the most important, the gameplay is, without good gameplay then you cant really consider the game to even be a game if that makes sense.
EDIT: Big post coming up lol.
Here are all the old games that I have played within my life, I may forget some but it does not matter, here are the ones that I remember:
Tyrian
This game was an old Flying/shooting game.
You had about 4 episodes, lots of fun I had with this game, and surprisingly had pretty decent graphics.
The music is what I like most about this game, nice music that goes very well with this game.
By Epic MegaGames, I think that with them creating this game, they have done a very wonderful job of doing it.
Very fun game indeed, and I got this game straight from Canada believe it or not, thank God for Canada, otherwise I wouldn't be playing this game

Doom
An old 3D shooting game, made in about the year 1995, this game does not dissappoint.
With good gameplay, nice levels, nice music that suits the game very well, I had a ball with this game.
Surprisingly the graphics of this game were not the best, the gameplay was awesome.
With a wide variety of monsters to kill, blow up, destroy, cut up etc etc, and nice levels, set out very well, this game is pure genious.
Played by virtually every gamer, people will know exactly what I am talking about here.
Doom is an awesome game, and with Doom 2 aswell, it really does not disappoint.

Doom Picture 3
Crusader No Remorse, and No Regret
These 2 games, are my all time favourite games.
They easily beat HOMM3 in my humble opinion, and easily beat some of the more modern games that we have out today.
The graphics of both of these games, beats some of the more modern games that people think "have awesome graphics" well let me tell you something, Crusader No Remorse and No Regret can beat it anyday.
No Remorse being released in 1995 and No Regret in 1996, they are quite old games, both being only playable on DOS, which is unfortunate for the Windows 2000 or Windows XP users, me being a Windows 2000 user, and it is sad to be unable to play this game, although I can play it with DOSBOX, it is not really worth it because it doesnt have that same feel and the music is stuffed up and it is incredibly slow.
The gameplay with both of these games is very good, Regret probably being better as it is improved a little bit from No Remorse.
Both of these games have very very good music, more to my style of music and that's why I love playing it, and the music fits in with the games very very well, setting the perfect mood for playing them.
The graphics, like I said before, can beat some of the newest games out, and that is no joke, it seriously is very good.
The Animations and all for this game is really awesome, and some of the Death Animations are really cool aswell, when you shoot a massive tank or something (not a tank vehicle but a tank which contains gasoline or whatever) and an enemy is right beside it, it blows up and the enemy goes on fire, making some really awesome sounds just like what would happen in real life, and the characters graphics and animations are very well done, perfect if I may say so myself.
The levels are quite good, with some cool challenges along the way, some puzzles involved but not too complex that you cannot solve and you are trying to solve it for hours on end, it isnt like that.
Instead it is quite simple and easy to do, making it more fun for you to play.
You can control gun turrents, robots, look at cameras so you can see exactly where the enemies are and where you're objective target is, it really is awesome.
The weapons you can have in this game are cool, they can go from simple machine guns, hand guns, rocket launchers, to some very cool ones ranging from freezing guns (freeze the enemy kijnda like what happens in Terminator 2, to the T1000 and then the famous line hasta la vista baby comes in ), a gun which turns the enemy into green dust and many many more, which makes it all the more fun to play
I seriously reccommend this game to anyone who wants alot of fun and enjoyment

Hocus Pocus
A 2D Side Scrolling game, that does not really dissappoint.
Made quite a while back in 1994 if I am not mistaken, it has many levels to play and some will challenge you quite a bit.
The graphics are alright considering it is a 2D side scrolling game, the music is quite good, and the gameplay is good aswell.
A good game, considering it is pretty old
Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus Picture 2
Bio Menace
Kinda like Hocus Pocus, it is a side scrolling game, but the graphics approach is a little different.
It almost is 3D in a small way, but that is a good thing
Nice graphics, good gameplay and set in a futuristic kind of period, not like Hocus Pocus which is a magical fantasy setting, this is more involved with guns, aliens and all of that.
Nice game, set out well, nice surprises and nice gameplay and all.
Bio Menace Picture 1
Bio Menace Picture 2
Bio Menace Picture 3
Theme Hospital
An old Sim game, that does not dissappoint.
Basically what you do is you have to run a Hospital, with many surprising twists.
Some of them include such diseases such as Bloaty Head, Alien DNA, Slack Tongue, Hairyitis, Invisibilty, King Complex and many other things.
It is an easy game to start playing, much easier than some of the newer sim games that are avaliable.
Nice graphics, quite good in my opinion, nice music that sets the game very very well, nice gameplay, really simple to get started into playing, and the objectives and game missions are really fun and enjoyable and well thought of.
Bullfrog, you made a really good game here, good work

Some more coming up later I am tired right now lol, I shall edit this post a little later

still, DOS runs a lot faster than DosBox. my Syndicate_Wars and ES:Arena very laggy with dosbox, even when set with those controls. it cannot function as good as the real dos, a small emulator isnt the same as a whole operating system, thats why. but for less demanding games like Prehistorik and Master_of_Magic, dosbox works out fine.

I agree with you 100% there.
DOS will always be better than DOSBOX, that's why I wanna get DOS to work again or get a laptop and instead of having win 2000 or xp on it, i will have windows 98 on it and install crusader no remorse and no regret and play them on that.
That's what I used to do when I had my old laptop, it was awesome to play Crusader No Remorse and No Regret on.
Really awesome

Well for a little update.
I got the newest version of DosBox, because the other one was really slow while I was trying to play my favourite game.
This new version rocks.
Seriously, I can play both Crusader: No Remorse and Crusader: No Regret pretty well.
There is occasional lag, but no where near as worse.
At least now the 2 games are playable.
And speaking of other games, I just got my hands on Blood, a 3D Shooter game, and it is working pretty well, although I am unable to setup the sound card and music card for some reason, because then the setup program becomes unresponsive and then nothing ever happens.

Too bad it does not work for me, well it does not sound as good as it used to, but I eventually got it to work.

I always prefered "Raptor: Call of the Shadows" to "Tyrian".
It lacked 2 player mode but in single was a bit better than tyrian.

I have got both of them, and I like them both very very much.
But, Tyrian was one of the very first games that I played, Hocus Pocus being the first that I can remember playing on the computer.
Raptor has better graphics then Tyrian, and it has a little bit more realism to it, but with Tyrian, there is more diversity, in ships and weapons, and I really like the idea of buying a new ship, and getting and upgrading my weapons and all that

I must admit that i'm surprised that so few people have played the original Monkey Island, the game is simply the bomb! Not sure about this but i think it was one of the first adventure games, at least with the "look, give, use, etc" interface that became the staple of the Lucasarts adventure games.
Gotta love the days when your game came in a bunch of disquettes!!!
