This looks like a good idea. Another thing: Roads should never have wild creatures on them, even if the surrounding territory is wild.

Why not?
What's a road?
It could be a dirt road through a spooky forest. Just because your one halfling is on a road wouldn't stop a big bear thinking 'Munchie time!'
A few other suggestions:
Swamp terrain - Big snakes and crocodiles.
Rough terrain - Giant scorpions and Rocs (if they're not creatures in towns.)
Sea - Giant squid/octopus.
Lava - Salamnadars.

Yes, roads shouldn't be overruled by wild animals.
Maybe they should patrol the area of 5 different squares.
Things like...... wait a moment... few of the wild creatures could appear in town of semi-towns since it is not the same as a normal one.
Then things like sea monsters, octopuses, white sharks could be in Water semi-town. Things like salamanders in Fire semi-town. Things like sylphs, genies in Air semi-town. THings like earthworms, moles or sabretooths in Earth semi-town.
Roads couldn't be invaded by these creatures, though, if they were in an army they could pass the road (since I would like to odd creatures moving on adventure map out).

Yeah but the road could act like a sanctuary. If u cant get attacked on roads, people will have to make decisions whether to travel the long way to some where via a road, or take a short cut through a 'spooky forest'
It would be interesting to see this. Eg. road leads to the mine, but a "Dragon Utopia" is out of road.
But one thing bothers me. What would happen if there were hundreds of animals? Then you'd get more experienc , but more trouble, so I think it would be right to decide before the map-making of how many creatures to include.

mabey there could be 2 - 3 wxtra spots for wild animals in your garison, like an exra reserve. you would need the skill animal taming, and mabey only good / nature heroes could do that? or mabey there are good animals (The big cats, brown bears, eagles) and bad animals (black bears, wolves, snakes.)

Just read abit in this and I think that it is a great idea, too!
And as some metioned before, I think it would be cool to have animals and not only native troops wandering around.
(I wanna see elephants and bears ans co.)
I think this would be cool!

dwelling - cave, allows you to control animals in a certain radius, so you can send your halfling through the forest, but the evil dude with skeletons...

Hmm. I'm not sure.
We got allready "wild" monsters and how several wolfs venture attack vs 1 Angel or any other big creature.
I think they can be a food if it's not too confusing.
We allready have lots of mines allready.
Maybe peasants go to hunter them. (joke)

Hmmm, it doesn't sound very "Heroic" to prey on wild monsters who serve no master and guard no treasure. What's the point of this other than to slow down the map pace?

it would be sort of like the weather they say they might add - it adds intrest. also, there could be some hero types who can tame them.

im not certain they will add weather, i have just heard about it on different sights.
after a geneous tip the barkeep wispers... "They might put weather in this game, but it would just be for impressive settings... or would it?"

no. no animals. too natural for the fantasy game, i dont think it fits in AT ALL. the castle humans do, but like penicillin and Hydrogen Grenades and stuff from Consis' post, bears and animals and dinosaurs do not fit in. ahem.

You share my view of fantasy doesnt need stupid animals roaming the map for grass(also screwing up the infrastructure like roads)

I have little time now (in work) so I can't afford to read all repplies, but....
... does it sound even remotely believable that animals are going to appear in such numbers, organization, etc...
to threaten an army ?
This would be very, very unnatural behaviour. Are we talking about some kind of magic experiment gone wrong blah blah blah, or rabies outbreak or what ?
About organization - if animals like bears are loners by nature, this seems even more unlikely. Not a bad idea by itself, but it would need some refining.
Introducing high army upkeep costs to keep army count low would help somewhat...

Why are you playing fantasy games then?
play Age of empires if you want animals!
PLEASE dont ruin this game with snowty creatures like animals.
Its idiotic. NONE of the previous HOMM games had wild animals in them and it worked alright. so lame....you already got ravaging monsters, why have animals? worst idea ever. KEEP THE ORIGINAL HEROES FORMULA WITH 3D GRAPHICS SOUNDS FINE TO ME! Animals....bah
