I am sure this isnt the case with most people....but for me, the ONLY reason I have any desire to play heroes online is because of TOH and the Hommunity. If not for TOH and a great Hommunity and honorable player base to establish friendship and fun with, I would never even buy the Heroes game. Single player offers Zero appeal to me. So for me personally, wins and losses arent as high of a priority as most would think. Just having a high quality balanced game with good competiton is important. Dragging out and exploiting each and every POSSIBLE tactic available in the game that more times then not only serves to make the end game lopsided and severely 1 sided just so I can chalk up an empty win....also has ZERO appeal to me.
So far I have never been hit and run...however, the thought of spending hours in a heating hard fought well thought out game just to run into a player running around the map with 1 Blackie and Armageddon...(putting Zero army at risk while running map) has ability to destroy HUGE amounts of my army then surrender without worring about any retaliation and takes no losses. Now is there defense agasint this??? Sure, SOME TIMES...Is there circumstances that would make it not possible to defend... ABSOLUTELY. And it is for that reason, that I would prefer not have it as a possible tactic in the game. There are many different aspects of the Heroes 5 game at its early state that have the huge chance of making a tournament quality game unbalanced.
When players are unwilling to compromise on issues that would make for a more balanced game..and they are more worried about wether or not any chance for obtaining a lopsided edge in battle is removed...AND then they feel the need to come onto the public message board and flame, bash and insult another players character...it becomes not worth the time to play.
Heroes 3 was a great game... BUT I would bet that it WAS the STRONG Hommunity base and TOH following that really kept the game alive and so well liked for so long. Right now there is none of that...
I come to the board to make suggestions debates and comments on how to possibly make Heroes 5 a better gaming experience, and only get flamed. When and if there is ever a better Hommunity base of players that isnt h-e-l-l bent on getting that cheapest easiest fast win possible, and players that respect other players, then I WOULD LOVE TO PLAY. But as was pointed out by Vesuvius... those H3 old gang hommunity days are just memories and doesnt appear to be coming back.

btw, neighbours seems to be a very balanced map so far, way fewer artifacts than Dragon Pass, or should I say; the artifacts seem to be evenly dispersed on the aMAZEingly map

wow! i should know better than to post anything on the internet after i been drinking. Hey Jinxer i feel terrible about that post earlier and anybody who took any shots at me for posting it, well i deserve it, it was a mean post and never should a been typed. jinxer we been in TOH together a long time and i truly wish to apologize. I've usually enjoyed and for the most part agreed with most of the stuff you've ever posted and i know that if you're exasperated by this version of the game it's for good reasons. If you wanna quit TOH and stuff because the game is not what you'd hoped it would be that's ok by me, but I do hope any descisions you make concerning being a part of TOH and HOMM5 will not be affected by that terrible post of mine. 
once again sorry ole buddy, hope you can look past this, I for one am gonna miss ya in the forums and also the gaming field if i can ever get my comp up to snuff enough to even try playing online.

I dont think it's about the game itself.
I think the limitations that are played so far is whats going on.
JB please make some good maps.
I know some players are waiting for the editor .
MKL I have to say I always admired how nice you always been on here.
After ths post I apologise MKL.
I was Rion all this time & i shouldnt of made those comments.
I am the type of person who tries to loosen up people n here who dont seem to have as much fun.

Couldnt agree more, I have zero chance of getting into the game single player, and there are peeps in ToH I like to play...luckily those peeps are playing cool games like Civ IV and AOW (brave new world style)...so sorry ToH and Ves, love the place but having more fun playing those right now...H5 is nowhere near the experience I hoped it would be

...H3 and TOH on its peek attrackted really cool dudes to play and even more to talk and share fun with.

hey Jinxer, AOW = age of wonders; shadow magic. Turn based strategy with a fair bit of hero influnce but totally different again. I'm not sure what the community is like but I play with aan ex group of heroes players (fearflame, kirk_picard, rethwen, deathmage, a few others from time to time). Kirk has done countless hours of work on it with a mod called "brave new world" which is amazing.If you pick the game up, and dl that mod I think you'd love it...far better than h4 or h5 in my mind.

I don't think you can evaluate H5 for tournament play until the map editor comes out. I would bet money that I am not the only old as hell vet checking the ToH site for news of when this happens. Until then, I don't have the time to play guinee pig to Ubi Soft.
I hope as much as anyone that they get it together because I have very fond memories of H3 days and there are a quite a few people I would love to have some reunion matches with.
However, even with a map editor, I have a feeling that Ubi's online matching system will hamper the community feel of H5 and the proliferation of ToH. No community chat while hanging out for a game (am I hearing this correctly?) seems like a complete bummer. I still remember fondly the times I hit the floor laughing from some antic that was happening in the Zone chat. Many ppl just logged in for the hell of it -- there just to shoot the sh-it with friends from around the world. (Or was it just because we hoped that Melissa would show up? ) What a great experience those days were. We'll see if they can happen again.
Enough. I shouldn't write while drinking either. I turn into a sentimental wuss!

Heroes 3 was not perfect when it first made it's release.
The least we can do is be patient with this one.

Please don't abandon H5 just...
please be patient...I will wait until JB makes the maps I want to play which will be before random maps I am sure...
I love rich maps and perhaps choosing the same factions in a JB made rich map would be a hoot!
I am waiting as many are...Ineed to get some multi play going still...been to much summer not enough computer...fall is coming

I enjoyed playing this map each person had their own utopia way a map should be and 1 bonus in the middle for the quicker one. All the guards were the same no matter what lol.As Rychen say's we play Shadow Magic.
Oh ya @ jinxer:
We play tournement style games at the-battlefield.com for AOW and for fun usually with kirk picard,rychen and rethwen.

- I just played a game ( saved... prolly due to the AoW team  ) with Rethwen. And we just agreed on no IT in general. so whats the biggie here ? it's a spell, it comes with the game , yes but so did dimension door in the heroes3 version too... granted IT has more limitations than dimension door had.... but sheess just agree NOT to use it.. how hard can it be !?.
-I have looked at some of the old maps and some of them would be a blast to play in heroes5 style.

We are already having discussions about H&R in Homm5 to me this game still in friggen alpha multi wise.
I do enjoy the single player aspect of the game, rather i did till it got stale.. and playing multi against wife... not as great as i had hoped it would be... and ubi servers.... yeah... um.. whats the opposite of the word fun?
@Jinxer you complain about anything on the internet you will get flamed by someone
@the alcoholics.. stop drinking for 2 hours before you post something.
Ill be doing other crap till h5 gets better

LOL No doubt, there was always a counter to be found for the infamous hit and run like a speed necklace or cape artifact... or even an arch angel recruited from camp.then your opponent gets his hit and run hero hit and killed.Seem to remember salamandre thinking hit and run worked first time second time say hello to my little friend MR Shackles

if you want a balanced and fair game and huge multiplayer community and ladders and ranking tournaments and all he bells and whistles, try Age Of Empires 3, its the most balanced strategy military/building and resource management game i have seen so far. beware it is RTS though and i know some players here just cant handle that.
the servers usually have 3000 ppl on so is always plenty of options and chat rooms and clans and clan chat rooms to get involved with.
also the replay option in this game is huge fun, record a game and watch it back and see how your opponent played. its an intensive game though, an hour long battle feels like a 12 hour 2v2 h3 game on xl+u
but really my point is that its a balanced game, they did really well with it. btw dont judge aoe3 by its other games in the series.
