nice post elvin
I once played the map Battle Zone with Nathir.and the hero I build is more or less like yours. So I absolutely know the decent power of the fireball(needless to say I get phoenix cape..) .the lucky fireball with the motw nearly do 4l dam in the game
but I suggest that you could give up the enlightenment in large map which has lots of statues bonus buildings, if you are not intent to mentoring.(also I dont suggest use the hero with the mentoring as a main hero).see , the academy has a 45%chance to get knowledge and 30% chance to spellpower. you get 15 extra points in level 30 and 75% of them would go to knowledge and spellpower.that will help a little in the late game.
the extra 7 konwlege and 5 spellpower help nothing in the late game.
So I think you may go to the defense, especially against the might faction.you must keep your troops survive as long as possible.(academy will get a advantage if the battle last longer).the Vitality and the Evasion are both useful.of course the high knowleged can make the mini-art more power full but I think it is not the reason to give up the defense which is more useful(or you can learn the enlightenment and go for mentoring,use this hero for make mini-art only, and level up another hero as the main hero for your final battle.)

I can not stand Academy they suck and are a pure waste of time.Dungeon,Haven and Sylvan are who you need to reckon with.

I do not want to be crude with your appeals to academy.It is just that I can not stand academy cuz they have no real ideology anyway.

If you read my posts you will see that they do, they just don't have a specific gameplay because it can change from game to game according to your choices.
This time around I tried a pure magic build just like the good old days  I had an interesting combo, summoning/dark/light/luck and that proved pretty reliable. I used to think that luck is not that needed for academy but the lucky hits from a phoenix and gremlin saboteurs more than makes up for it  Also I disliked light but the addition of regeneration, divine vengeance and the currently buffed holy word makes it very worthwhile and a good addition to your creeping arsenal.
The important thing is the combos that come between those three types. A unit with vampirism is no longer subject to curse of the netherworld and can be raised permanently with raise dead. You have probably heard of vampirism as a means for dispelling mind spells and as for the vampiric phoenix that is scary
By end of week 2 I had broken lots of ghost dragons and took the military post guarded by several emerald dragons. Then I killed 47 pitlords, 48 wraiths and 50 paokai to return to town through a one way monolith.
Visited my second town that had mage guild 5 by then, took the mage vault and proceeded to kill the horde of archangels by week 4, day 2. Yeah bad spell selection so I had to return to my other town and lose valuable movement points. Oh and build an attack mini artie for my gremlins That was week 3 and I had built 2 mage guilds with library
From then on it was cakewalk, I could pretty much kill everything from horde of flamelords to horde of green dragons(6 colossi with vampirism and buffs).
Some replays.
Pack of paokai week 1
They were a bit harder than I thought but there's little surprise, you need special placement if you don't want them to kill your single gargoyles that protect the saboteurs. Interesting fight.
Several emerald dragons week 2
That's not a fight you can have that early with no losses. They play first and can reach you no matter where you are so I did not bother covering the gremlins. The phoenix won(just like with the lots of ghost dragons) and I used regeneration on gremlins that kept waiting. Yes, the duration is for a few rounds but it heals everytime the unit acts.
Lots of pitlords week 2
Normally I'd be afraid but when they do not consider you a threat they cast vulnerabily and at worst fireball but I had obsidian gargoyles. Could not depend on phoenix so my trusty firetrap got the job done 
50 paokai week 3
That might as well have been week 2, was week 3 day 1 and I had no reinforcements or new spells since the last fight. Now THAT was a great fight, one of my best in creeping. It's not easy to avoid the paokai to attack your gremlins Summon elementals, phoenix and a few buffs. I'm so glad I had luck.
Horde of archangels week 4
This time I was better prepared Phoenix, blind, slow(not mass  ), wasp swarm, endurance, righteous magic and divine strength. Could have been as simple as vampirism and phoenix but you'll usually not have that. Just 4 gargoyles and my saboteurs.
Horde of green dragons week 4
What do you know, 6 colossi own a horde of dragons In a lighter fight as with pack of thunder thanes you could take them with just regeneration and maybe endurance, now I just used vampirism and a few buffs. Would have been funny to start casting curse of the netherworld. Beside them there was a tome of dark ^^
In these battles you can probably see that luck and light was invaluable. If I had not gotten vampirism regeneration could have been a good substitute. of course that's a map where I could get a colossi dwelling, I would not have 6 colossi on week 3 otherwise.
Without these two spells I have no idea how to take down a horde of thunder thanes.

Nice replays there Elvin. May I ask which map did you play? You got quite high level quickly. The green dragon replay was just awesome. And when I saw the pit lord casting fireball on the gargoyle... WTF?

Yeah Let's fight though I did not depend on extra gremlins as I did not upgrade them on week 2 early. Would probably have helped.
This is an interesting map, although might factions can get more units magic factions can get an amazing start either because of extra guild(got my firetrap on 2nd town) or artifact merchants. Plus with all the extra spells it gives more possibilities and magic skill choices. So far I think that dungeon is a bit faster.
The extra tier 7 dwelling makes sure you'll have enough by week 4 too Though I'm not sure if all factions can win lots of tier 7 by week 2 and that is a potential flaw.

Darn.. I don't think I still have them all but should have the good ones. I think I'll stop using rapidshare, no point if they are to be deleted any ideas?
Edit: I fixed the links in the second page but this site requires typing password and waiting so it's really getting to me. If someone knows of a good upload site please let me know.

Hey Elvin.
You know, I think that someone has made a site specifically dedicated to hosting replays. If not, there certainly should be one. If you look around here in different replay threads, I think you will find it...or perhaps you know the one I'm talking about. The only thing I'm not sure about is if it's for anyone's replays, or just the person who created the site.
