There are 3 lines marked something like "die in a week" in the map-properties drop-down. You'll have to change each from true to "false". <Iirc> this have to be done for both players. If you have any trouble I can take a look.

About hero availability. Can you explain exactly what you are wanting to do? It sounds like you want the map you've made to allow both players to choose any hero at game-start. And on your map you're making specific heroes for each player? I just want to be sure I understand correctly.

i want to make a map, where you start with a choosen hero, get a 20-week army, kill a week enemy to become lv.40, get a town (because else night-elves for example need it), learn all spells you can (thx to a ally, that can not move) and then come to a arena to defeat the other player! (the second player has the same things to do)

Would it be easier to make a mod for the dual heroes and just use the dual mode?  I don't know how to do that, but I thought I've heard of people doing that.

Also, you can edit treasure chests to give more experience than normal, that way you can easily get a hero to level 40.  It would be interesting to have a large pile of gold and a memory mentor to let the players edit the skills they get as well.

For the hero that shares their spells, I'd just have an ally hero controlled by an AI with next to no army waiting when the player starts so they won't try to go anywhere.  Then give them all spells and the scholar skill so the human player grabs their super experience chest, then visits this hero to have all their spells.

As for getting 20 weeks worth of creatures, maybe you could have stacks of creatures that are willing to join, and the player just picks the stacks they want to take?  Otherwise I think you'd have to do scripting to get the right creatures for the player.

Finally, maybe the way to let a player start with their own hero is give them a random town, but disable all the buildings so it doesn't actually affect the game.

Fulano has the right idea for what you want.

Make a custom Hero inside the editor's "Preset editor". There are pdf instructions. It is saved like a map.

I want that you can choose what hero you want not making a hero with the specialities I want!

Fulano, I know how to do it and most of the things you said I already did, exept for the treasure chests, because it needs to much time, I just let them make a quest to kill a hero with one creature and so get the needed exp. I just don't know how to make the "random hero"

Well, the difficulty for me is you want both a duel and a map.

Unless you place a town, I don't see how you can have a hero be any one you choose. I think a town tavern is needed for that.

I think if the town is a "random--town" than the player would pick the faction he wanted and then the Hero.

From there you both would proceed to a Sphinx, answer the question to get the level 40, then have the creatures join and then battle.

yeah, looks like it!
I have one last question: does anyone know, hot to script a "surprise enemy"? like in the tribes of the east campaign where after you entered a special area a monster appears?

I'm telling ya, you can edit the treasure chests!

All you do is click on the treasure chest in the map editor and press the spacebar.  You can change the amount of experience and gold in it.  I have no idea how the number relates to how much experience you get in the game though.

In my case I set the chest to 999,999 and it gave my hero the choice of 500,000,000 gold or 499,999,500 experience in the game.  That got my hero to level 39 with only one treasure chest.

As for surprise attacks, I think the only way to do that is with scripting.

Easy there big fella. H5 scripting is a BIG topic. It is nearly impossible to give you something that you can simply cut and past into your map. If you truly desire to learn how to make H5 jump through hoops and learn how to bend to your will in order to make a custom game out of it, then you are going to have to put some effort into it.

Begin by downloading the "The Basics of Heroes V Scripting ver. 2.01 for H5, HOF, & ToTE" that can be found here:
http://www.celestialheavens.com/viewpage.php?id=567

Read this document from cover to cover. Then start out simple and work your way up. In the larger scope of H5 scripting, making a surprise attack is pretty easy, and this guide does indeed tell you what you need to know in order to do it. However, it does not explicitly tell you how to do it.

@ fulano,

I tested your treasure chest idea a little; but what about random events? The third attempt gave me a ring.

@Markkur
You are right, that is an issue with chests because I got artifacts on occasion too.  Guess the Sphinx is the better way to go about it... unless you put out several chests, but that would make it hard to balance a dual type map if one person gets a random artifact.  All right, I admit, your idea is better.

Do you know why the numbers seem so random?  I've no idea how 999999 translates to 500 million gold in the game.

@RKBock
Sorry, I've no idea how to script, not many people do around here anymore.  I know there are vague tutorials out there but I haven't put forth the time to learn how to do it yet.

Not a clue. Trying to zero in on level 15 was truly bizarre, no ryhme or reason and then why only one entry that mirrors? A default 2000 gold or 1500 exp is not identical twins

Nice try anyway. Btw, check the map thread @ EE.

You are most welcome. I used to know a lot about H5 scripting, but I've not done it for over five years so I've forgotten all of it. I don't even have H5 installed on my computer anymore.

There used to be a lot of information about H5 scripting on the Celestial Heavens forum, and it's probably still there, but will take a LOT of time to wade through it so you can find the help you need.

You might wish to download a couple of my maps and look at the script to see how I did things. It will be kind of puzzle, but I learned a lot from looking at the script for the official campaign maps so I think it might be worthwhile for you to look at mine.

(Oh, yeah, there used to be open versions of all the H5 campaign maps on this website, and they are likely still there. You could down load them and look at the scripts.)

Dude, if you figure out how to script you could be very popular around here.    I've even got a few maps in the works that I wanted some basic scripting for.

I really just need to stop being so lazy and figure it out for myself...  but life happens and it does require a lot of time.

If you guys find some good scripting tutorials out there I'd love to see them.  I'm trying to collect them on Wikia so people can find everything in one place.

It used to be that the:
"The Basics of Heroes V Scripting ver. 2.01 for H5, HOF, & ToTE" at:
http://www.celestialheavens.com/viewpage.php?id=567

was the only tutorial out there. It sounds like no one else has created anything else. The only drawback to using it as a tutorial is that it really helps if you know how to program, even at a hobbyist level. If you do, then the Scriting guide covers about about 80% of the things that you might want to do with H5 scripting. In my opinion, that should suffice for everything I've seen you guys trying to do for the last few months on this forum.

As for exp from treasure chests: 4.000.000 stands for max level (40). And to get that exp NOT the artefact, just put like three chest with 4.000.000 for every player. No one will get advantage becouse You can't get higer level than 40

Edit: You have to take it when You are on 1 level, and don't have enlightenment. Becouse if You do have that ability, or higer level You are risking that NO exp is going to You (due to Hero exp limit, 4.000.000 is MAX, going higer will have very bad consequences like NO EXP FROM CHEST AT ALL).

OH MY GOD. This: "Begin by downloading the "The Basics of Heroes V Scripting ver. 2.01 for H5, HOF, & ToTE" that can be found here:
http://www.celestialheavens.com/viewpage.php?id=567" is the anwser for my problem. For question that I just posted in the topic of spells. Thank You very much
