the game shouldnt even drag on that long to the point where you have 1k familiars.. and even if you do.. mark of necromancer can probably restore most of the necromancer's mana in 1 shot at that stage of the game.. where every stack is dealing damage in the thousands.. so if the necromancer gets 1 mana for every 75 damage.. even an attack doing 1k will land you a nice 13 points of mana (if rounded up then 14).. and you can still proceed with frenzy or mass slow.. etc

I voted Assassins because they can poison the level seven or level one creatures, then deal with any incoming melee foes near my shooters. The poison is good when hammering Archdevils in the second mission of the Demon campaign. I also think that Familiars are annoying when killing them, but weak in my army. Sprites die insanely quick in my battles. I had 40 and they were one shoted by 4 Druid Elders.

Hi DeathImp, welcome to the community!
The poll is outdated, made prior HoF. Now in TotE there are 2 alternative upgrades, which makes the game much more interesting.
True, they die quick. During final battle 1st-level creatures hardly stand last. But all creatures actually have their own special use, for example familiars main purpose is to drain mana though they're also a melee unit; master gremlins can repair golems; and so on. So it's actually rather difficult to judge them based on their strength only. During creeping at the early stage of the game, usually they are "useful" as a cannon fodder.
I'm sure you'll enjoy more the 2nd and 3rd expansion of the game, especially the last one with more choices of upgrade

Hmmmm....
I cant decide between Mountain Guards, and Asassins.
Both units are very good, Mountain Guards, with their VERY high defense, and armor, and they can hit quite hard when enough in the stack.
Assassins, a little weak, but with the poison can really deal some serious damage
Hard choice :/?

Read this thread, page 1 (master post) by Doomforge or page 20, second post by broadstrong. Excellent guide!
For the record, I used to always take Mountain Guards But Stalkers in my book own Assassins, ofc because I'm still running v3.0.

I chose skeleton archers, simply because of their sheer numbers.

If put 1 v 1 then winner will be scouts.
But for me still strongest units are sprites. Lvl 1 unit can two times do 10 dmg, then it can do 1 - 3 in mele with no retaliation and it can kite slow lvl 1 - 4 creatures. tacticaly its best creature for me.
And obviously assains comes to secondt place becose i am always creeping only with them and warlocks spells. Wayshyan my favorite dungeon hero.

I like so much of Skeleton Warriors. They have Large shield, shield allies, magic proof 25%, Bash, a good defende AND a good damage!
