The Hero ( Mix ) Tournament ?
Hey,
- I am probably going to be flamed for writing this... but here I go.
- I have really enjoyed Heroes5 and Tournament of Heroes so far, no doubt about that But I have been lurking in the ToH - Tournaments section too, and I like what I see. I am fully aware of the "low" activity but I am sure we all make an effort of "promoting" ToH in various lobbies/sites/mainpages . Recently I have played most of my games with a mix of some of the upcomming tournaments.
- I have suggested from scratch, that both ( or more ) play with 3 Heroes MAX ~ sort of What you see is what you get kind of play. Meaning you can only have 3 Heroes at all times ( no un-nessesary dismissing ) too ;
(1) Speed up the game ( sort of )
(2) Add a more "natural" tacktics phase to the game in hand.
(3) [ Additional ] - No Instant Travel <-- just an example. etc.
- I have asked those I have been playing with ( before, in and after ) what they thought of the gameplay ( we are not taking win/loss into consideration here ) and just about all thought that it was a nice touch to the game/map; e.g. forceing them to plan their moves more carefully ( time factor ) ... instead of "just" buying a new hero to cover this and that area.
- All in all, having the relatively "low" activity ( ToH-wise ) in mind I would suggest opening up a sub-tournament with some of the mentioned suggestions. ( Heck I'll slap in the xx $ to the Finalist )
- The Hero sub-tournament
(1) The Hero ~ 3 Heroes MAX ( The Hero)
Mixed with
- Speed Deamon sub-tournament ( Speed Deamon )
(1) 2-3 min turns with quick combat and dynamic battles
- Well just a suggestion.

I too would like to see a sub tourny open....
However I think the only tourny that could be feasible with such little activity is " Warlords "
Maybe in the hunt to steal players shields would entise some more activity...I know I would be more willing to play non veteran newbies that I dont know if I was trying to steal there shield Ofcourse since I brought it up, I would also suggest that I be granted right of first Warlord Just a thought. hehe

Warlords could be open anytime since there is no time limit.
I dont see any problem opening one up requesting a shield.
Once we get a few players to become a Legoinaire or lord, Rob can open up the tourney for open play.

On my mind, the Warlords is the first to open -- actually I'm 'opening' it next week. Hero and Speed are next -- those I just need to see the activity up over 5 games a day. Believe me they will be static tourneys if I just open them up, without enough competition, its almost pointless to run them.
But what I do like about hero and speed is that the games would go a lot faster. Hell, I'll be the first to jump into playing speed hahahaaaaa I promise.

Completely agreed - it is even hard to get standart ToH game (i wouldn't be typing this if there will be somebody around to play the game right now ). In addition, as we can see from this thread, there are various wishes for subtourneys, which in turn means even lesser activity on any of subtourneys.
My subjective wish here is MapMasters (on any map whatever - either on some fairly popular like Peninsula or as a promotion of a good new map). It seems fairly real to get at least 16 ppl to make one-loss elimination system going.

Hey,
- A bit of topic
- For us lowly n00bs, not in the know ; My subjective wish here is MapMasters is what ?
- But I think your right ,Zilonite, 16 players can be mustered ( hence the last count was ;".. An average of 5 games a day..". And if my math aint completely out of wack that makes 10 players ( a day ) ..

The simpliest tourney possible:
- elimination tourney, one lose and you are out, therefore good number would be 16 or 32 or 8. If 16 players would agree to play, this would mean 4 games max for two finalists and 13 games in total);
- all games are on one particular map with final aim to establish ultimate champion of this map;
- there are preset rules, how the game should be played (time limits, choose castle/hero or all random, etc.), but on both players agreement they can play it in a different way.

Sounds like great fun this - would it then be preset rules like "all random/not random - Deleb ok/not deleb" etc?
I will try to find time anyway

In ancient times (three-four years ago ) rules were as minimal and as flexible as possilbe, leaving space for those, who does not like them to use some alterations.
Most likely rules for this tourney can be something like this:
- random town/hero,
- hard difficulty,
- quick combat on,
- 6 (?) min turns.

I agree wtih zilonite that the rules for tourneys at this point of season should be as simple as they can.

Well I can tell you that the ONLY tournament that should have a time limit is Speed Demon. Other then that all other tournaments should have no timer set. I for one wouldnt be joining a tourny that sets a timer limit. I wouldnt mind it at all if they didnt make the timer run during battles...or atleast made an option to turn timers off during battles etc.
So just a suggestion if you dont want to cripple participation in an already low activity setting, then dont put timer restrictions on.

..and thats another 'bug' in h5 online gameplay quality.
Seems that circumnstances CANT let you play with timer On.
To me, and im sure to many, time pressure is a heroes game basic aspect, that 'argh! i run of time' feeling or raising your shoulders up to fit a busy turn in time limit, kinda keeps you awake into it.
Even bigger 'bug' ,against my taste at least, is that you cant do NOTIG while not your turn. Same in battle. just look at the hourglass... i even got told lately not to play wit da camera- it lags other player
This is NOT whining! on the long run, as excitement of New wears off, what remains is IT to keep you. Either has , or not has IT.
Ah well then, nevermind for now.

well, i agree with insa. timer on is in case u play against noobs, i guess no player among those who have some ideas about the map would stare at the screen when nothing to do. i also agree with the fact that impossibility to check your towns/heroes skills or spells during opponent's turn is extra time consuming when your turn comes, cause u have to "recall" the plan, affecting a bit the focus. u should be coneected all the time, fortunatelly , this will happen in expansion(as i assume).
about in-battle , the hourglass prevent mouse-hovering to see details, but u can check right click-ing on ATB bar's portraits for info. (insatiable noob ).
and ofc, CANNOT let timer on during battles, or u could have a single fight/turn and all movement wasted in the advanced phases of the game. its a STRATEGY turn based game afterall, not some RED/BLACK double poker machine.
have a nice day
P.S. game is good. only maps need improvement : no scripts allowed- big loss, but still....
