Now thats proof that we never keep our noses out of other countries businesses.

Those who made it out alive after the war probally became insane.

Another one!?

These are the types of pieces that evangelical poets send out en masse and end up clogging my e-mail.

I just joined because I didn't want to be called a pantywaist by my friends.

I read with bated breath the reason for your sudden change these days.  The girls might find it gripping and riveting.  I'm here to tell you though, to go peddle your pity elsewhere.

I'm not buying.

Kookastar,

This is the very debate that I have ongoing with a friend of ours here in Beaverton. He is a school teacher for many years and is now also a high school's athletic director. For most of his career, he has taught math classes to high school aged students.

He and I have have been at many impasses. It is to the point now where he refuses to even speak to me about it. He had a friend who was very young as teachers go. He must've been no older than 21 or 22 years of age. It might be close to the age that Vlaad was when he first began teaching. Anyway, many parents got together and decided that he was simply too young to be teaching their children and so they petitioned to have him leave the school on that basis. This friend of mine was telling the story to me. And when I heard this, I also felt inclined to lean toward the parents. Upon relaying my agreement, he became immediately incensed and just about left the room. He then looked away and said he couldn't believe I would say such a thing. So I looked at him and passionately said this: "Is it so difficult for you to understand why a parent would feel this way? I have two children and you have two. Perhaps our opinions of this matter are very different indeed!" I said, "Doug, I'm sorry if you disagree but in my mind the point is clear. I don't know about you but I happen to believe that our country was in fact carefully molded, shaped, and guided by the school teachers that have taught our children and educated them to help our society improve upon itself as any society would!" I said, "Doug, let me tell you something . . . a teacher is not simply a teacher! I teacher should also be a role model. When my children go to school, it is my hope that they look up to their teachers for more than the lesson being taught. I'm hoping they notice the self discipline and interest in motivating one's self to help try and make a positive difference in this world." Then I repeated myself as if on some propaganda trip, "A teacher is not simply a teacher but also a role model too!" And in response to what I said, he closed his eyes and shook his head and has refused to speak to me about it ever since. That happened about three or so years ago. He hasn't forgotten it and neither have I. He is still very angry about it with me but doesn't see any point in trying to reasonably sift through our disagreement.

A Marine does NOT shine! There's NOTHING SHINY ABOUT A MARINE. In fact they're dang ugly, the uniforms are a stained doormat, and their pants just don't match. I think it goes a long way to saying that a Marine ain't about nothin that's pretty! These are the folks who do the dirty work when the call is made by President

Consis,
I happen to be currently involved with a Marine. He calls himself an X-Marine, but I feel once you are a Marine you are always a Marine. The fact is that I lived among the Air Force boys for four years in Minot, ND. I have to say that up till the time I moved onto the base I really wanted to join the military. Till I was invited to a MS party that involved little girls on their knees trying to earn more stripes for that cute uniform. They were blowing their way to the top and in large numbers I might add. They are blue boys that really hold a lot of value to the fact that they joined this branch of service in hope of better food, hotter women, and a chance that their ass will never be on the frontline.

Understand that I respect the military as a whole but the Air Force out of all the branches that I have had the pleasure of spending time with, just really takes the title of ‘joke’ on this one. Maybe I was diluted in thinking that the military was not suppost to be a joke, that we weren’t suppost to join just to say that we had served at the Air Force base that offered snows, crab legs, and co-ed dorm rooms.

Those little boys were without the training that the Marines have to go through. Why do you think that when the Marine man gets out they are so out of their element and ‘brain washed’? Once a Marine always a Marine, when the wing nut gets out they say, once a flyboy always expect to have things handed to you.   The mentality is different in the Marines and to them blood does make the grass green, in the Air Force the E-1 girl makes you scream. Yes all kinds of fun in it self-but really have nothing to do with defending your country.

Your right about a Marine not being pretty and the fact that they just don’t look like they have been pressed and sealed by the local Air Force cleaners. They work, train, eat, sleep, and **** the military mentality while they serve. You know that I love ya man but after my experience with the Air Force my full respect has to go to the Marine boys.

P.S. Thanks for giving credit where credit is due....

In defence of young teachers

OK first let me say that age really has no direct relationship with any of the qualities that make a good teacher, here are some generalisations based on my observations though.

Older/ more experienced teachers are better at delivering content - they have done it over and over.

Young teachers {and beginning teachers} are better in many other ways, because - they have not been ground into the dirt after years of students with william's attitude in the class {that is - they are good to argue with- sport}.  They still believe they can make a difference - and they are willing to try different ways to reach children.

They have been educated with the latest theories in education - and still spend the time to think about 'why' they teach the way they do.  They generally see their students in a more positive way - and treat them less like part of a job.  That is just a quick rant - I don't want too much text here

I really feel for that young teacher you all ran out of town - I hope they are teaching somewhere now where they are appreciated.

Re role models - I guess it depends what you want your children to be like - I am only assuming you prefer them to sit in a room and copy from a blackboard while the teacher pours information into their skulls...

Regardless of age there is a qualification to teach in a certain subject.
It would not be wise to have someone incompetent to teach a subject.
It depends on how much the teacher cares & hoe he/she presents the class with the subject.

There are two kinds of teachers.
One who cares & will do what it takes to teach so you can learn.
two are the ones that only teach as a job then a carrear & they really can give a rats crack about teaching to anyone.

My son's teacher last year was young, she was utterly amazing. I went through a lot with my son, and knowing that she was there supporting him in the school was one of few things that gave me peace of mind when he was away from me.

She went out of her way with every student to find that one thing that made the kids light up. She emailed me from her home after hours - she'd make time to talk always and I never for a second doubted that anything she did was with the students' best interest at heart. Everyday she had a rule that the kids had to give her a high 5 before they left, and no kid ever wanted to leave without smacking her hand with everything they had. She was really connected to those kids.

I could care less if she was 80 or if she was 18 - what mattered is that she cared about the kids, she cared about the job she was doing and she was an amazing person. She's transferred to another school now, and when I heard the news I was so sad that my daughter wasn't going to benefit from being in her class.

this year, my son's teacher is I think in his 50's - his hair is snow white - but I think it's premature. This guy is totally old school.. its work work work. The first day my son came home with homework my eyes nearly popped out of my head. He doesn't coddle anyone - he doesn't mess around. He offers rewards if you get the job done, but if you don't - you're just out of luck.

Now this guy could well be the exact opposite of last year's teacher - but that's not a bad thing. This year my son is learning to schedule his time, rather than me tell him when he should be working etc he plans it out on his own and he's taking pride in it.

So is one better than the other? No. They're just different. Does it matter how old they are? No. It matters who they are. I don't understand how or why anyone would ever run off another person without knowing who they are.

You wanted to square off with me yet you can't even handle your own foot.

As a matter of fact, let's rename this thread Consis vs. his foot.  I can do the color for this one.

"Well Bob, as we near the end of the first round it is clear that Consis didn't come prepared to fight.  His eye's swollen shut and he's already breathing heavy.  Now remember.  The first thing to go is a fighter's legs and this is even more pronounced as he's fighting one of them today.

Uh-oh.  Last fifteen seconds and he went ahead and said something stupid about young teachers.  Ooh!  Good shot!  Ow!  Shot to the jaw!  And another hit!  Consis is getting rocked folks!  Blammo!  His eye!  Ooh!  And another jaw shot!  He really needs to close his mouth before...too late!  The foot is firmly place in his mouth and his suffocating the life out of him!!  I've never seen such a red-faced gag reflex!  The only thing that's going to save him now is the bell!"

Oh, that kind of teacher.

I have 180 students this year. My hand would probably fall off if all of them gave me high five.
