...how can you not like the Rampart at all, if you like the Conflux? ...although I personally think that the two are great, they really do work as an awesome team duo...

Okay, i stand corrected. The Conflux is the worst town in the game. Twice as many Phoenixes don't make up for the fact that the level 3, 4, and 5 creatures are the absolute worst. Air elementals get blown into oblivion with a simple lightning bolt and the magic elementals don't have enough hit points to withstand a 'gang-bang' by the enemy. The only redeeming quality to the Conflux is the magic university and the heroes. As for making a good combo with the Rampart, 2 wrongs don't make a right. And 2 rights make the first airplane.

Again it all depends on the situation. Rampart I find is especially good against Fortress and Tower.
Fortress is easily taken care because of their slow speed. Their wyverns and dragonflies are easily taken care of with dwarves and dendroids, their baskilisks with unicorns, their gorgons with dwarves, the gnolls/lizardmen with gold dragons and the hydras with centaur captains and unicorns. Plus the elves add to all the chaos with their strong firepower (can easily take care of dragonflies and then move on to other targets.)
Tower is also fun to play against. With the magic resistance of the dwarves, unicorns and Thogrim's added bonus, they resist this magical specialized town as a piece of cake. The titans, though mighty they are w/ their thunderbolts usually shoot for elves- easily combated with gold dragons and silver pegasi (w/ expert shield). After the flyers strike the unicorns and centaur captains follow up on master gremlins/gargoyles and the dwarves and dendroids take care of the nagas and ranged troops (if they aren't already taken out by the elves and flyers)
As for castle, rampart works against them well depending on the situation. Archangels when attacking your elves may pin you down, but the dendroids and dwarves can take care of the archs. Unicorns can handle champions, goldies can take care of marksmen/halbediers, pegasi can take care of zealots, and centaurs can take care of crusaders/griffins with help from the dwarves and dendroids.
I guess it looks a little easier on paper, but I like rampart a lot and can try at least to beat many battles with 'em. And you can't use yer magic, because I will resist it, so haha.

hehe, I hate to burst your bubble, but refer to the "who do you think will be the last standing" thread. Castle and Tower were the champions, and Fortress and Necro were next. All four of these beat Rampart.
The one thing Rampart has over all other towns, is their unit's speed. Centaur captains, grand elves, pegasi, and unicorns make a formidable force and are inexpensive, and their speed of 7+ make your hero travel quite a bit further.
The overall might of rampart is not very good compared to other towns. Their specialty is the speed of 5 troop types (of 7).

In my humble opinion, Rampart is a great town to play with if you are on defensive. If you are on the offensive however,.... things start to change. You only have one shooter, and the troops that can get to the enemy fast are rather weak( my opinion, of course). By the time your better troops get to the enemy, they get decimated by the enmy shooters, if they have a decent army. This, of course, excludes spells like Teleport. Any opinions?

tsk tsk tsk...Wesley...
...you like Rampart but you don't like it's "soul"...
...and I wonder ...could it be because both reatures are in Tolkien's book? ...anyway, I personally love both, but I don't think their HoMM3 versions are the best ever... I like HoMM4 Dwarves more ...as for Elves... "sigh" ...why can't they watch the LotR movies? ..oh yes, they are not out yet...

It would be cool if the H4 elves looked like Legolas. But I suspect a few heroes are going to.. You are right about the dwarves, when I first saw the LoTR trailer I thought of the H4 dwarf artwork...

you are wrong gootch, conflux is the strongest town by far, and 4 phönixes DO make up for everything...coz they easy to get also.
L6 also is great, magmas and the upgraded fires are not great but they are no total loss, L3 sux? i think ice eles are good shooters, L2 and L1 rock, so there.
as for rampart, yes its nice to look at if you a nature lover, but its weak at all points, i prefer the bubbling lava of inferno, again "so there"

Rampart is good only b/c it's cheap!!
But you guys seem to underestimate Stronghold and Inferno.
It will come a time when your stacks will die with just a single strike of Ancients or youll meet Sultans and their Armageddon!

Hey Icon, you are right about rampart beeing cheap, but, in my opinion you overestimate inferno. It only has one(if you are optimistic, 2) good units: efreets. Imps: even with theuir specal, 2-3 mana isn.t that important when you have to cast a spell that costs 10-12 mana or more. Cerberi are good ionly in huge numbers, but even then they die easy.Magogs, i don't even want to speak about them... Demons, mediocre unit at best. Pit lords, are O.K., maybe..Efreet, i think it's the only good unit of the inferno. Devils and AD, weak, devils can't even travel 3/4 of the field... I am glad the inferno is gone in hmm4.

Belive me Zydar + Expert Fire Magic + Armageddon + Sultans is a killer.
Dont underestiate Cerberi, especially blessed ones.
And the Archdevils, fast which means good for h/r tactics (if the players agree to use it), and of cource the only 7th lvl creature with no retaliation.
Pit lords are also good, especially in breeding demons
As for the Magogs, I never ever make this upgrade. I tend to kill more of my units than the opponents with them.

Darion, because the Castle has superior ranged AND the faster troops, Rampart must come to it. Your Gold Dragons will get mowed down by my Archangel, Crusader, Halberdier triad. Doing half damage at long range means I can ignore your pansy little elves. As for your resistances, whoo-whoo! Expert haste, shield, bless, prayer, or clone means your resistance is futile.

I agree with you on the first point, but, personally, prefer (strong magic hero)+exp fire magic+blakies.
I don't underestimate cerberi, but unless the enemy has packed creatures(standing close toghether) they lose their special abilty. And yo have to admit that then they are not so fearsome...
True, but they have to be in big stacks to be effective with the breeding thing. Otherwise, 5-10-20 demons don't make that much of a difference.
So, this is my opinion.....

I never said the Inferno was powerfull. Its units are definetely worse than those of Castle, Tower, Necro.
My point is that you are makeing huge mistake underestimating it.
After all you wouldnt like loosing to such a weak town, would you?

Nuh-uh!!! Okay, so I wait w/ my gold dragons.. you attack me with your Archangels, Zealots, Marksmen first round... I chew up your champions with unicorns, archangels with dendroids and goldies, griffins with elves and dwarves, and run my centaur captains and silver pegasi out to chew up your zealots and marksmen... Mass slow will do you some good, as will some expert forgetfullness/dispel.... at any rate, this is a fruitless effort, so you like the castle and I love my rampart so much I would marry it.... thnx, it was fun!

You guys make me laugh. This debate has been around ever since Heroes 3 came out and I guess will never end The truth is that all towns are very well balanced (except Conflix, which is above all) and different towns will have advantage in different situations. The most knowledgeble people I know (of the game that is) rank as best Necro, Inferno and Fortress.

I highly doubt that Conflux is above all.
From my personal experience it is way below avarage, but maybe I am wrong. I dont like this town so I never play it, and probably I never met a good Confulx player.
Pheonixes except speed are not worth much, even with double growth. And 6th lvls arent that good to make up for the bad 1st-5th lvl creatures.
Why do you think it's better than Castle, Tower, Necro, Stronghold?
