Oh man ...
you better check some of the strategy articles on h3trio, mmportals, etc. I will briefly mention some things here.
Heroes:
Elementalists are the best magic heroes, starting with 6 pts instead of the usual 5, and having a magic school. Best are Ciele (her magic arrow will clear everything in the begining), Brissa (expert haste as soon as level 3 to 5), Labetha (her stone skin will reduce the damage by about 45% which is the same as level 40 Tazar!), Inteus(bloodlust). Planeswalkers are not bad also, but elementalists are simply the best.
Buildings:
Conflux is the easiest town to build. The resource requirements are very low and the only resource that you may need (mercury) you can produce yourself. This mean that on ANY map you will build faster than anyone else.
Magic university will give your heroes the magic school they need. I cannot emphasize enough how important this is, especially for heroes that rely on a certaim spell. I have played many games where Jeditte didn't have earth, or Terek air, or Loynis - water, etc. and I was forced to reject good skills (Intelligence, another magic school, etc) in order to maximize my chances to get the desired school, only to end up with skills like mysticism, learning or eagle eye lol.
Creatures:
Sprites - best level 1
Storms - best level 2
Ice - one of the best level 3
Energy and Magma suck big time
Magic - one of the best level 6, a real pain to fight
Phoenix - by itself week, but double grouth, speed, fire imunity and rebirth more than make up for that. You will always have first/last move/spell.
In the begining of the game you can do very well with sprites, storms, and ice. Later you use magics and phoenixes as well. Level 4 and 5 suck, but you wont need them anyway, except if you have armageddon. Now with Armageddon you have 4 creatues imune to it! And with your speed you are guaranteed to cast it at least once. This means that you win in 99% of the games, except if red orb or recanters are in play.
I wont even mention the grail bonus ...

Craig + recanters/orb = Conflux destroyed.
Still if you are not that lucky to get Craig and recanters/orb I wouldnt worry much about Conflux.
Your theory has some strong points especially on the paper. But from my experience Conflux dies easily even when your main doesnt have offence spec.
I would most strongly disagree with your description of the conflux units. They are not even half that good as you say they are. This is of course only my oppinion, you can disagree if you want to.
The only thing I am realy scared while facing opponent playing Conflux is ... Armageddon. This is one thing you can do nothing about unless you have recanters or orb!
As for the grail: My vote goes for the Tower. When facing a human opponent it gives you biggest advantage possible.

Yes, and all the spells in the game (ARMAGEDDON, DD, fly) mean nothing Icon, right?

Icon's reply only confirms my words that this debate will never end, but I dont want to take part in it any more. I will just quote what Re-Animator once said on another board:
"This game is 3 years old. If you haven't figured out yet how to win with Conflux (or Inferno and Fortress for that matter) you probably never will".
So everyone keep playing their favorite town - it is the best

Zsa:
Yes, those spells mean a lot to me. However, I agree with sos and Re-Animator, I figured out how to win with Tower (and most of the other towns) and knowing my opponents every move gives me more confidence than having all the spells.
Unfortunatelly I never figured out what to do with Conflux, and Ill never will b/c I just dont like it, simple as that.
sos:
Sure this debate will never end, but if you dont want to take part in it, then dont do it.
At least I learnt smth. about Conflux - I will never underestimate it (but still, I have to meet a person who proves to me conflux is worth anything, without Armageddon).

Dont underestiate Cerberi, especially blessed ones.
And the Archdevils, fast which means good for h/r tactics (if the players agree to use it), and of cource the only 7th lvl creature with no retaliation.
Pit lords are also good, especially in breeding demons
As for the Magogs, I never ever make this upgrade. I tend to kill more of my units than the opponents with them.
100% agreed here.
If you play me on a closed map when I'm inferno, I usually get 100-120 demons by beginning of week 4. My record so far is 174 horned demons by week 4, day 1.
Usually by that time, my opponent (if a rookie) craps his pants.

Interesting how off the topic this thread got. Sos, the only thing that the Conflux has are air elementals in the beginning to gain control of mines. Bron not withstanding, the heroes pound for pound start with the best army. That's it.

Conflux is a great town... Let me tell u that it is not as strong as some think or as weak as others think.
It is a good town, many people are just afraid of it because it has a DIFFERENT troop displacement than the other castles.

Conflux is a good town butin a toh game, I hope my opponent dont get that town.
Not only do you get 4 lv creature instead of the usual 2, but they are the fastest too.
I played the YOUR FINAL GOAL for fun & my opponent was Conflux & I was the Fortress.
Ohwee that was a tough battle he had way more phoenixes then I had Hydras.

Just got one little comment
Icon, u said that Arch devils where the only L7 with no retaliation, what is Hydraes then?? L6 ?
Sorry couldnt help myself. I myself find rampart a great town especially on open maps, but they will have some troubles on closed ones where u have a chance to have a fully built army to face them week 3 or 4. But hell all towns are pretty good. My problem is I have a much easier time playing Rampart than Necro for instance. But I know from experience that Necro is prolly the strongest town around if u take Conflux out off the equation (As I always do, by playing 1.4) But I just cant play them powerhouses properly. My favs to play gotta be Stronghold and castle (Castle just because thats my clans chosen )
Uh, better hit enter some more times
Well my 2 cents at least

Defreni:
he he you're right, I didnt even realized that I wrote smth. like that.
Guess I was just trying to defend Inferno (which is fun town to play) at all cost!
I have to admit smth. It seems that all I can play is Tower, seriously.
When I have my 80 Master gremlins + few Stone Gargoylas day1 I know what I can do. Which fights to win with no loses etc.
This is not the case with the other towns. I dont know the creatures and what they're really worth.
That is why now when chosing a town I always go random, if Tower appears that is great, if not it's still fun to learn new things!
Again Defreni, thx for remainding me that I should read my post at least once before I post it.

Rampart is a great town to play if on a small or medium map as the early units are good:
1.Centaurs - Best level 1 unit undisputedly.
2.Dwarves - tough buggers which are good for protecting
3.Elves - shoots twice, low hp but works hand in hand with dwarves.
4.Pegasi - fast and growth is 10/week.
It would be the ultimate is Gelu can be chosen as a starting hero. I've had sharpshooters doing over 200% of their hp in damage.
As for conflux, i think, in my humble opinion, that the phoenixes (is that the right plural?) make up for for the crappy (no offence to conflux enthusiasts) fire/energy elementals and the earth/magma elementals. They are only 2000 gold and 1 stack of mercury each, which means that you can get 5 phoenixes for the same price as 2 archangels (less because you only need 1 merc. each for the birds but 3 gems each for the angels).
5 phoenixes vs 2 archangels, hmmm... I wonder who would win?
As for low level conflux troops, I think that it was an overstatement by SOS to say that sprites were the best lvl1 unit. Their hp is too low to be useful. However, the lvl2 storm elementals are the best lvl 2 as they are both fast and can shoot, plus they have the highest hp of any lvl2. Bless them and their deadly (8 damage each)
This is from my own experience. I may be wrong. Tell me if i am.
Enjoy the game!

Sprites are in fact one of the best lvl1 creatures. If you lose them too quickly, thatīs not their fault. You must not allow anything to attack them.
They also make very fast scouts.
Itīs obvious and self-explaining that Confluxīs level 2 and 7 creatures are by far the best. If Firebirds had normal growth, Conflux would be a normal town. As it is, itīs far too strong.

Quote: Centaurs - Best Lvl 1 no doubt.
Dwarves - suck
Grandleves - suck twice per round
pegasi - suck extrafast
dendroids - slowsucking
Unicorns - poor corns ,great unit lost in a bunch of losers
gold drags - compare em to blacks and u see how much they suck
Btw. Inferno kicks ass
Motorschaaf
agreed, rampart sucks big time! but inferno...the best? don`t know actually... i don`t really like the magogs cuz often you can`t shoot without killin` u`re own guys...(that`s why liches are that good) imps suck two...and familiars with their "ability" hehehe...who needs that crap? i know i don`t! pit lords are pretty good, i admit.. efreeti sultan: not the best, but quite OK. arch devils kind of suck compared to other level 7 creatures..

Rampart Rules!
I love Rampart. Yes, lvl 2&5 are preety slow, but they are very good defenders of my archers, which make miracles on the battlefield
That music(scottish/old enlish) is so nice, Dragon cliffs - is the nicest structure in homm3, You need much less cristals for dwellings than Stronhold do.
In my opinion these are the main Rampart advantages:
1. making archers in the first week-to clear the map.
2. making lvl6 unit those beautiful unicorns by the end of the week 2.
3. speed of pegases-to attack enemy's archers+spelcaster
4. treasure
5. Grail - giving +2luck
There are some others...
And who says that Rampart sucks - contact me and I'll punish you for these stupid words on the battelefield.

Ok, just tried that out... Dungeon with Shakti - 150 infernal trogs day 1 to clear everything
Quote: 2. making lvl6 unit those beautiful unicorns by the end of the week 2.
Dungeon with Shakti - was I so lucky? Anyway, I got Manticores week 1 very well, and they're so nice and quick
Quote: 3. speed of pegases-to attack enemy's archers+spelcaster
Agreed, but they die way too quickly, so they often don't have a chance to deal good damage.
Quote: 4. treasure
Oh, nothing more to say here...

LOL you really thing that's the best Grail? Me thinks completely opposite - the worst one
