Starcraft and its expansion Brood War. They are classic and people still plays it! It has been alive in at least 9 years now, since 1998. And that shows its a great game even today. And its sequel are coming soon too. En taro Adun!
Tassadar, Raynor, Kerrigan all great characters

I would also mention Zeratul here, and since I'm a zerg fan in starcraft also Daggoth and the Overmind. Stukov was also great and the mysterious and elusive Samir Duran(Xel'Naga for expansion anyone?)

Um, the classic Space races: Human, Spiritual, Infesting bugs. You can see it in
Star Trek (Earth, Vulcan, Borg)
Halo (Humans, Convenant, Flood)
Starcraft (Humans, Protoss, Zerg)

Vulcan - spiritual + uber-high tech(protoss are)? WTF? A BIG NO here.
And Borg are high-tech, not critters, their technology is higher than any other race in Star Trek. And you forgot Klingons, Romulans, just to name the most prominent.
I don't know Halo so perhaps you're right there, yet Halo is younger than SC.

Not quite, Babylon 5 had another idea, it was average races of different technology level (mimbari, humans, centauri, narn) and the old races of the very advanced technologies which were guiding, controling and teaching the average races (vorlon, shadows).

By bugs, I more meant things that assimilate a species/infest the individual to make it one of them.

For me it was always:
Human = Human
Protoss = Predator
Zerg = Alien
Alien VS Predator seemed like protoss VS zerg battle

AvP and StarCraft is the only good comparison here, I admit that.
Protoss & Predators - physically strong, very honourable and highly spiritual, posess technology so advanced that humans hardly (AvP) understand it, or not at all (protoss), yet very low in numbers.
Zerg & Alien - mindless/nearly mindless servant creatures, sentient queens/cerebretes.
Human & Human - self explanatory.

errrr...
people, do you mind getting back to the original topic, about rts games?
Not aliens, and Predator and Zerg and Protoss etc etc.
Yes, I know Zerg are in a rts game, but the way you people are talking about it, is not about rts games.
Let;s just get back to the original topic
has anyone played Dark Colony?
I guess that would classify as a rts game.
And a good game as well

I know the game, but I haven't played it, a friend of mine used to.
I have to say I didn't expect that BFME serie would have no vote. It's not my favourite, but it's stiil a good serie especially BFME2: RotWK
