And what would you say about dark/light inferno?
If u use this magic both then you are unbeatable by Academy I think...
You can hipnotize or frenzy two, the most powerful stacks in Aca's army and then you just beat the rest with your hellfire and gated stacks hasted and enduranced...
Furthermore if you play Grok, u can with simply no mana loosing teleport your overseers near Aca's mages and/or gremlins and then, perform normal attack or explode...
Don't tell me that banish will delete ALL the gates... It can delete one per turn, and that's to less to beat Inferno up, if taking into consideration not gated ones...

Assuming you have the mana, it depends on how late we are talking about. I'd say that inferno has pretty good chances in lategame because:
Familians drain a large portion of mana even if wizards have more than enough.
If you upg some units, get tactics and/pr winstrider boots the initial blow will be hard to recover from.
Endgame favours might. Not to mention ALL these gates.

None with experience on the matter would waste a turn to teleport demons nor banish on the wizard's side, it's crappy now. And hellfire is not nearly as good as you imply.

One thing though, it would still depend if the demonlord got cleansing or magical immunity, even with gates a motw+frenzy/blind is hard to counter. I have never seen people try two schools for inferno both because of spell availability and because you need might skills to be effective. You'd have to have an outrageous amount of levels.

Actually it is ok now for Inferno against mind-affecting spells because of the new spell vampirism. So as far as I can tell, Inferno is much better a faction than before. Just play on a map that grants access to extra lvl5 spells.

BTW picking dark magic skill is not a bad idea for Inferno when fighting Academy. not only for vampirism, but also for other spells like frenzy or mass slow. Even if you don't have vampirism, you may still learn shrug darkness.

I am not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but counterspell is not affected by sorcery so basically don't learn sorcery just for it.

With miniartifacts Academy creatures is not that weak even in late games especially when the hero is Razzak. In late game they will have very high Attack and Defence and their shooters will likely to move before the hell hunters (and familiars). So always learn defence skill and evasion and artifacts that improve Defence.

And Banish is not as affective as before.

So I guess Inferno vs Academy match up is pretty balanced now in late game.

I totally agree with 86wyp, but imho having dark with inferno is not a good idea it's a MUST! Since the other native school (destruction) is out of the question due to demonlords' low spellpower, having some desruption from dark is a necessity. Having light magic can also help inferno, but it is more unreliable, and of course, is useless on one town maps. Inferno definitely needs might skills instead of light. I think cleansing is the only light spell that you really need with inferno (to counter opposing dark), but you can also do that with shrug/seal darkness, and I think these are a bit more reliable than cleansing.

Acadamy is stronger however inferno with a well built hero can nearly double its army size.
I vote inferno

And that doublesized gated monster army more often than not can get cut down before any of them have even had a chance to move.

Demon Lord Destruction got a lift with Warlock's Luck being available as a tier 2 perk.  Try Jezebeth with Distraction, Warlock's Luck, and Destruction.  You might be surprised.

Sure but is it enough? If you barely have 5 spellpower warlock's luck or not you won't deal that much damage.

I agree.  If given the choice would anyone pick Jezebeth over Deleb or Grok as their starting anyway.  However, on some maps when you have the luxury of developing more than one hero, you have the ability to make that determination after you've seen the artifacts available.  That 5 spell power can easily become a 20+.

Well if you wan't to play Academy lategame destructive is NOT the way to go...I may certainly help you in case you have 20sp but that is not very likely to happen. It's as people have said before you need windstriderboots/tactics/aura of swiftness in order to get your Nightmares/Firebreathers/(Arch) Devils there in turn 1 they should do a fairly nice amount of dmg and incase they get good morale you should actually have the upper hand by the time the academy guy gets his turn. In case you DON'T deliver fatal blows in turn 1 it's kind of gg for you. And yeah your gates will only play a minor role in the final battel... Academy going to wait for you to strike anyway so if you give him even more time to cast while your waiting for your gates to arrive it's bad... I'm not saying that a stack of ported Nightmares/Imps can't make all the diffrence but it's actually not likely. I play Inferno quite a lot and Divine Guidance/Teleport Assult can really do the trick for you. And Light magic with Inferno is superb! There is no faction that benefits more from it than inferno does!! Geee one mass divine strength and your silly oponent can say goodbye (well not REALLY but it does help out a LOT). But you will most likely not get the spells you want if you are lucky enough to get light magic at all. So basically Academy>>>Inferno unless Inferno manages to deliver some hard first strikes (maybe even with luck and moral and then it might actually have won allready)

Middle-late game, Inferno does not stand a chance. Only Grok can make a stand (with Teleport Assault).

Early-game however, or on poor maps, Academy cannot develop itself quickly enough, and Inferno may win by a rush. (though Golems and Gargs are HARD to kill... but then again which Human player uses Golems early in the game??)
