Strongest and most powerful HOMM V hero?
Which is the strongest hero in HOMM V?
Do not care if it is campaign or mulitplayer mode.

I find academy heroes who specialise in magic mirror (spelltwister) and sorcery (windspeaker) to be most effective

I think this depends on who you are up against. Usually i would say Deleb because in early game she is almost unstopable else i would say agrael.

Why Markal? Just because he has his Death Lord skill? Having all undead creatures join your army isn't that useful if you have Basic Leadership as an extra skill (reducing the chances of getting those 6 needed to get Howl of Terror). That and the fact that it depends on your game strategy and who you're up against. Also, there's no perfect or strongest hero in the game if you ask me. And since when can Markal be chosen in a Custom game? I prefer the general heroes.
Kaspar (because of his healing tent and lack of unneeded skill to get Howl of Terror)
Deleb (because of her Iron Maiden skills)
Jhora (Windspeaker, enough said)
Vittorio (Siege Engineer is a great skill)
Inga (because of the runes)
Lethos (because of his poison skill)
Talanar (because of his Recruitment skill, ballista and Enraged skill)

It's a tie between totally overpowered master of initiative(Realag) and I-train-for-free suzerain(Ornella and Isabel).

I forgot about Lethos.One time in a campaign with Realeg I think I was with the other hero(the female one) and I was fighting Lethos.When I entered combat he poisoned 4 of my units and made short work out of me(plus he was defending a castle)

Not anymore, with the new motn his glorious days are over though he is still good.

I'll pass, leadership is not a primary ranger skill, it is easy to get and recruitment is not for a main hero. As for the ballista maybe if you get warmachines.

I agree whit Elvin here 
Strongest Campaing hero is Markal but can't really compare those when they aren't balanced. Now whit new version Wyngaal is nerfed down i think Deleb is overall best heroe what you can use, overpowerd? Nah! cheezy, yes.

In short maps she is. I also like the HoF Raelag with master of initiative. Increasing your initiative while decreasing your enemy's can work wonders, especially with a warlock.

Well I've been crushed by Helmar so I'd say he's powerful.
From campaigns I like Findan's power.
But there's no one hero to win all the time. For example deleb can't do much against a late game fortress hero with full runes and limitless resources.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Zehir:
"Every time a friendly stack dies, a group of elementals enters combat at the hero's side. The number of elementals increases depending on hero level. In addition, Summon Elementals and Summon Phoenix spells cast by the hero are more powerful."
If you compare that to Giovanni's Souldrinker not only do you get much superior creatures in elementals but you also boost 2 pretty powerful spells.

Yes as a second hero - Mentoring and wupti she is lvl 20 in no time ... = Lots of runes = Great Main Hero... !! But not a main not..

Every hero is useful depending on the situation. You shouldn't pick 'the best one', we could pick our FAVOURITE one. Talking about markal... and what do you do if you DON't find any undead creatures on the map? You don't know what you would do because you've only played a campaign full of undead willing to join you by default.

Agreed to that. I doubt Markal's ability would really make a difference in a custom map. I'd prefer Kaspar, in that case - for necro - because I think he can keep more troops alive then those that join Markal.
My favourite hero, on that matter, is Havez. Having him as primary hero gives you a nice backup for when you can't rush fast enough with Acdemy. The Gremlins become lethal. Really lethal...
Plus, he's a must have for a killer ballista.

Markal is broken by default because his special is absolute rather than relative. Johra might be usefull, but she is ballanced because he skill becomes better with every level. Findann and Deleb are very powerfull heros - probably too powerful if you ask me, which is obviously a problem with Deleb - but still, their ability is proportional to their level, which adds some sort of balance to them.
Markal is different. True, you might play on a map where there are no neutral undead, and then he's not usefull at all. But you might also play the odd map where a legion of Wraiths start right beside your city ... Of course, that's unlikely, but the point is that Markal potentially can have infinite power right from the beginning of the game, which none of the other Heroes can [as a result of their special only].
