Aside Naga, I miss Pegasus.

I think this should go to the Altar of Wishes forum, am not sure if there's already a thread covering this topic. Alc?

NAGA!
There was this one part... I won't say in which campaign in Tribes of the East where you have an optional quest to visit these sunken ruins. I was half hoping that the Naga would show up there. But alas, my hopes were dashed. If Nival did put the Naga there, that would have shocked EVERYBODY. Too bad they didn't.

Sometimes I get the feeling fans just like what's given to them and dislike it when it's taken away.

Why the hell would you miss the pegassus? I mean... it's abilities are unoriginal and dull. Another flyer... what the hell... and also nagas... those raksassas are exactly the same thing as nagas.

Do you miss their models? That's kinda childish...

And these Cyclops are 3 times better than all behemoths in all heroes games so far? Why miss them?

Wow wow wow, slow down a second, mate! You seem to like playing Inferno, you brought hell several times here

Speaking about originality, I'll just make it brief: the originality of Pegasus came from its being as a Greek mythology creature, if you care for some enlightenment, read here. Compare that to Dwarven creatures, or even Barbarians, which are totally made up just to complete an entire faction. Wikipedia describes Skirmisher as "infantry or cavalry soldiers stationed ahead or alongside of a larger body of friendly troops" which can actually belong to any faction. The list can go long with shieldguard, blackbear rider, warlord, slayer, chieftain etc. Google them if you wish and see what you find. How's that sound for originality!

I try to avoid any effort to differentiate naga and rakshasa, because they are actually different (and original). We can actually have both creatures in the game and give them different abilities (for example, rakshasa in the above link is referred as shapechangers, illusionists, and magicians - these can actually be more rightfully used as their abilities). What I don't understand is Nival's idea in the first place to remove Naga and put a creature with similar abilities for it, where actually both could co-exist together without reducing any value of the game.

Thanks for commenting my post, but next time could you please bring heaven instead?

Since Academy is more or less a direct copy of Tower in HoMM III (probably due to it was a good unit-mix), I would wager that Nival wanted to make some minor adjustments to make it feel like a new town and not just like a copy'n'paste.

Of course, that is my guess...

Fair enough, but Haven is also pretty much a copy-paste. Well, perhaps the spirit is 1 OK, 2 too many...

Academy, Haven and Necropolis are very similar to their corresponding towns in HoMM III.

The biggest change for Haven in comparison to HoMM III, is T3 and T4, where Nival more or less switched place on the units, yet kept the roles. Swordsmen used to be a very offensive oriented unit (with their upgrade), but now it is a tank unit... meanwhile the Griffins were more of a tank-oriented flyer, but now it is an offensive oriented unit. It is first now with TotE that we have the "original" roles back.

For Necropolis then the two most noticeable changes is T1 and T6. The Skeleton horde was changed from a melee unit to an archer unit, and the former swift Death Knight became a sluggish Wraith (why didn't they change the zombies instead?).

The Nagas were not included in the Academy for one simple reason. They are worshipers of Shalassa. The Academy does not worship any of the elemental dragons. And as children of Shalassa, the Naga are powerful enough to warrant their own faction. A Bastion town maybe. I wish Nival would make a third expansion pack entitled Children of the Depths. That would be sweet.

As SBlister said: They believe in shalassa. But they are actully indian creatures (Or from africa, Wiki says both places) so they would fit in Academy fine, but I like that Nival actully thought different. But Wiki actully said this: "In India, nâga are depicted as subterranean and as an opponent to the eagle-like Garuda" !! As Subterreanean. That could be underwater or under earth ground. So in those big clouds they wouldn't fit.

Rocs and Thunderbirds have been around since H2 and i tough it was weird they didn't use them. Well Rogues and Nomands where from the beginning but they don't seem so classic. Gotta love the new Cyclops way better than having Behemonths.

If this is what they can do with Cyclops I would have loved to see what they could have done with Behemoths!
