AoM 2: What will it be?
Now, this topic sprang up in the Temple, so I thought I'd make this thread to discuss what Age of Mythology 2 might be. Feel free to post any and all ideas for future civilizations and religions. I know for a fact the Aztec is a real working theory.

I think that the Greeks will be definite as well, and the Norse as well.
I think that many of the current ones will stay, and perhaps some more new ones will come

Theres roman mythology out there too. Native american lore as well though thats kinda doubtful.
Greek mythology is too all-encompassing and huge to leave out. Norse is just too good. Egyption is also quite nice

Yes, but Roman Mythology is veryy different to Greek Mythology, and I think that is why it isn't really in the game all too much.
But, AoM2 might actually incorporate that.

I do not think that Christian will be in it, and I do not think that Persians would be in it.
No way.

Slavic! That's the word I was looking for. My thought is it would be heavily myth based (Druids, Werewolves, Vamps, Grasht, Veela, Kelpie)
Christianity would be really good, I think. The great thing about books and movies is they can push the evelope about life, death, religon, love, etc. I can't remember the last game I played that was daring with the religon aspect. Plus, I seriously think that a christian faction would be very interesting, and the controversy would draw in lots of people.
MAJOR GODS:
-Jesus
:Godpower = Sacrifice: Select one unit. That unit dies, and all its HP is given to nearby allied units.
-Yahweh
:Godpower = Salt: Select a building. It is turned to salt. Does not work on wonders or town centers.
-Holy Spirit
:Godpower = Save: Select an area. All allied units in this area get a tounge of flame, which increases their attack and speed for a certain amount of time.
MINOR GODS:
Instead of having minor gods, they have prophets. I don't know the prophets that well, though, so I'll just give an example:
-Moses
:Godpower = Part the Sea: Parts a body of water, allowing units to cross it.
:Myth Unit = Snake Staffs: Fast snake units that are good against other Myth Units. They can also bond with a normal unit, giving them an attack increase (they fight with the Staff)
-Elija (or Eliah, can't remember)
:Godpower = Blind: Self Explanatory
:Myth Unit = Burning Horse: Fast fire unit, good agaisnt buildings. Can bond with Cavalry units.

it may sound good, but trying to write it into a storyline would be incredibly difficult, as it takes place in a time of legends, not of real-life events. you couldn't get the Trojan war, Ragnarok, the rebuilding of Osiris, or the sinking of atlantis all at the same time.

Not real life, no. My hope is that eventually there is an AOM 3, set in colonial days, only if Columbus had come with his armies plus preists, heroes, and Minotaurs.

To much is discussed while the East Coast is at school.
Now, the Slavic is very awesome if made. Many mods exist for slavic units, but never an entire modpack of the race. Celtic modpack has been made too. Heavengames.com has a aom heaven. Go there to find modpacks for Aom.
I still think in addition to the Aztecs, the Slavics should be added. I don't like any Japanese/Chinese myth too well, but sure as crap, they'll be there.

Are you serious?
I do not think that the Celts would be all that good.
I think, that Age of Mythology is better, having the more older cultures or societies, whatever you prefer.
The Ancient Greeks and Ancient Egyptians are good, because they are so old, but Ancient Rome is not as old as Ancient Greece, and their Gods are not like what Ancient Greece had.
It is sorta hard to explain, but I hope you know what I mean.
Quote: chinese and japanese would be quite good, as they both have a huge range of gods and creatures to use.
I hope you are not serious.
The title of the game is Age of Mythology and I do not think that Chinese and Japenese were not Mythological.
Sure, they may have had their God's, but they are nothing like what Ancient Egyptians and Ancient Greeks had, like what I said up above
Quote: but either way chinese & japanese would be cool

dang this game could be a war of ancient world mythology.
I would not classify Chinese and Japanese as being "Ancient Civilizations', because they are not that Ancient.
Look at Greece, hell even look at the Egyptians, because they are one of the most Ancient Civilizations.
I would say that Chinese and Japanese would have probably been at their best from the time period of AD 800 - 1400
That is what I would call as their "ancient" periods, but not Ancient compared to everything else.
Quote: Christianity would be really good, I think.
I hope you are joking, please tell me you are.
So you think that The Holy Spirit would be a good unit, even though it is not even a physical being?
Christianity is not really about Mythological stuff, so I will say that Christianity should DEFINITELY stay out of the game.
Quote: Not real life, no. My hope is that eventually there is an AOM 3, set in colonial days, only if Columbus had come with his armies plus preists, heroes, and Minotaurs.
Why would there be an Age of Mythology 3 which is all about more modern stuff?
Then it would not be suitable to be called Age of Mythology, maybe more like Age of Colonial Days
Quote: "GAH!! ENOUGH CHINESE PEOPLE!!!!"
I have nothing wrong with Chinese people in games, but I would not see them to be suitable in an Age of Mythology game.
They have their set of Gods, yes, but they are not really Mythological are they?

I agree with this very much, thanks to the double negative.

Whoa boy, somebody really didn't do very much research.
China, for example, goes pretty far back in prehistory. You might've heard about archaeological findings of really ancient dynasties of which written records are sparse. I'm not gonna read out the whole story here since you should really be studying this stuff in history class.
Asian countries have quite a lot of mythology about them, although probably not as well known to most people as Egyptian and Greek myths. Whether these Eastern cultures can tie in to the gameplay is a whole other question, but these civilizations certainly have a history of culture behind them. And it's not just about having gods and other dieties; there are many myths and superstitious tales that go far back in time.
Study up!

That was what I was meaning, that they are not as "mythological" as The Egyptians or the Greeks, I know they went far back in history, but they were not mythological.
I think I didn't word my sentence's properly, so I'm sorry.
