I need to have a creature's model file as an effect, but its not in the effects folder (obviously). How do I make it available?

can you try that Cepheus? please? and after that, tell me how you did it. i tried to make them shorter but the game didn't like it, the bottom of them was missing and the top was 2D.

Sure, I'll try but don't expect miracles, it may well not work.
EDIT: Sorry Wulfstan, I tried to shorten them but once again parts of the body are becoming transparent. It's just not reasonably possible to totally remove the spikes from this particular model without a lot of time and patience. Sadly some things just can't be done.

The problem with the spikes is that they are not in the textures, but in the geometry. Without textures, the dragon is grey (try to remove the materials links from the model file, you'll see it), and the textures are only painted on the surface, as Gnoll_Mage explains very nicely in his tutorial.
Whatever you poaint on the surface of a cone, even some transparent part, you can not remove it. To do that, you need to edit the geometry. Which is still out of reach, but it may become possible in the future, if we can reconstruct Maya files from granny2 files.
@Daystar: look at any Effect file. There is a <Models> node, which is a list of ModelInstance files. And a ModelInstance has <Model> node to link to the model, and a <SkelAnim> node to specify the BasicSkelAnim animation file. Try and guess from there, and ask again if it doesn't work (and if it does, you can explain how ).

@Wulfstan
All right, below is a sloppliy done image of just a regular uncolored Crystal Dragon with the parts you wanted removed:
Yes, there are a few trifles, but I did this one in about half a minute. If this is what you are looking for than this is how I made it using GIMP.
1) Trim as much as you can those hairs. There are also two strands of hairs floating loosely in the texture. Delete them entirely. Those are the one that go at the end of the tail.
2) Use the blue/sharpen feature at a rate of 100 to sharpen the remaining "hairs" along the body so that they look more like the scales. Do this 2-3 times.

Yeah, that's exactly what I ended up with, but trimming the "hair" any further will result in see-through parts.

Yes, that's what I got the first time (transparent). Just be careful how much you trim because at one point it just goes haywire. Still, that can easily be fixed by using one of the many other tools that will make the remaining hairs less noticable.

Use point lights. For more information check the map editor documentation .pdf file callled "Editor Practical Guide" near the end.

You know what Daystar, even though you are not a MOD, you still do what sfidanza did, answer the questions clearly.

That's a great attitude Daystar!
And since I don't know a thing about modding, but find myself holding a sword and shielf in here too - I would appreciate all the help I can get from the members with answering questions etc

I'd like to change the color of Zehir's elephant. Would it be possible to make it pink?

Of course you can it is in data.pak:Characters/Heroes/Zehir-Zehir_Elefant.(Texture).dds then colour it the way you want and put it with the same sub-folders in a .h5u file in the UserMODs folder.
Edit: Lol you beat me Cepheus while I already coloured it once for Karador.

Thanks a lot!!! (That's impressive)!
I'm customizing Zehir to be my main hero in hotseat games. Can't wait to see the faces of my friends when they see Zehir's mount.

Here's a question: Is it possible to make a creature invisible only for certain parts of its animation?

Could you write your question more clearly? I might be able to help, but can you give me an example I don't think I understand you correctly.

I guess it's not possible (certainly not directly), unless you manage the difficult task of creating a creature out of effects alone. Then you can determine which parts of the creature will be visible during each animation.
