English and Swedish as 2ndHero said but i failed in Swedish horribly. I don't know why is that but everyone i know, dislikes the Swedish language all the same. Weird that it's our second language although only 5% uses it as primary. I know Finnish is one of the hardest languages there is (so i have been told). I just don't like talar Svenska.
Pretty shameful to know only one language besides your native, maybe i start to practice some Japanese

At my school I didn't "have" to take any language. But the options were German, Spanish, French and Latin. Most college bound students took at least one though, because many colleges had language requirements for admission. That was all a long time ago, and I have no idea what they do now.

In Sweden (where i come from) we learn english first (i dont count with swedish).
In sixth class we can learn spanish, german, more english (no one chooses this... they should remove it) or french.
I choosed Spanish because i like to travel and i would love to go to France, but they only speak french in one country.
I would also like to go to Germany when im like 14-15 years old. It would be cool to see things/buildings/camps from World War 2 and thats the only intersting thing to do there :S
Also they speak spanish in South America (and maybe even some places in the united states) and many countries around the Mediterranean Sea.

Normally, schools in my country make you choose English or French, and after four years of study you have to start learning the one you didn't choose initially (making it around 12 years of English and 8 of French, or vice versa). German is the second most common after these to, fallowed by Spanish or Italian. However, as I've mentioned, schools will have only 2 languages to chose from. Starting with the ninth grade, you are bound to 1 up to 4 years of Latin. No avoiding it.

How you know?
In germany, we learn english at first, later u can chose between french and latin. Only 2 (out of english, french and latin) languages are a must, any additional is up to you.

In primary school we had to do German. My German teacher even showed us a couple of episodes of the Simpsons in German (The PTA Disbands was one of them and 2 Dozen and 1 Greyhounds being the other).
In high school, languages were compulsory for year 8, but you could choose from either German, Chinese or Ngarrandjeri (I'm not sure if I spelled it correctly but it's the local Aboriginal dialect we have here), and if you chose any of the first two, you could do them for the whole time at high school (the third one finished at the end of year nine). I chose German and did it for three years.

For our high-school you had to do French for two years. I didn't really like it that much since I was not intending on going to France and therefore found it not really useful to me, and also because I wasn't particularly good at it.

In Russia in my school English was the only language and it was mandatory.
In Toronto, Canada you could learn French, Spanish and I think there were other options. I started from grade 10, so I never HAD to take French (although, I did), but I belive it is mandatory in grade 9.
Oh ya, I also took Spanish (I dropped it aftr the 1-st class, though , but ironically enough, I am quite fluent in it at the moment, but I forgot French nearly completely due to the lack of practice.

Must learn:
1. English = Of course. It's useful.
2. Swedish = Oh man it sucks. I hate it and I suck at it. This has nothing to do with Swedish people. They're OK. I've had business with them but the language, Ugh! It sucks and I hate it to be obligatory language in schools.
