Yep, one can cast mass spells much faster than Helmar:
Actually empathy by itself will beat Helmar...if your units are somewhat faster than his...a particular faction comes to mind
4 mass light spells - eg. haste/RM/clean/endurance
It's feasible to cast 3 mass spells & be ready to mass cleanse as the 4th before Helmar is even ready to cast his 3rd buff short bit of time where your stacks have all buffs & Helmar's main stacks have none
Also opposite empathy if Helmar has negative morale due to artis, visiting map location, wrong-aligned creatures etc
ok a couple more I can think of... one is faction related & other is quite basic really

just guessing here, but the factors here that influence the initiative here appear to be:
maeve + special expert mass haste
rakshasa with initiative mini-arti
rakshasa's dash special
hasted chieftain can use word of the chief so rakshasa can go again
possibly: rings of speed/celerity, dragon artifact that gives higher initiative to large creatures
i'm assuming that this allows the rakshasas to use dash multiple times in a turn, and that dash is cumulative. however, all this is theoretical; i don't have an exact calculation.
79 initiative is pretty insane!
imagine combining multiple groups of this troop with empathy - it would be a spellcaster's dream come true!

amulet of haste : +50%
dragon artifact : +10% + 5%
2 rings of haste : +40%
total : +105%
8 x 2,05 = 16,4
commanding presence : +1
16,4 + 1 = 17,4
expert haste : x 1,8 (is the level of the hero limited to 40?)
17,4 x 1,8 = 31,32
dash : x 2
31,32 x 2 = 62,64
I'm missing something...

@Ebbafan, dragon scale armor and dragon bone greave are obviously included.it doesnt matter wether you know the exactly caculation or not, just find out all the factors that give bonus to intiative, that is enough.
@Fauch,good caculation.but a slight mistake, only one ring of speed(+20%) works even you equiped two of them.
@Warmonger. you found the tricky one which I thought most of the people would ingore.but there is still something missing.

Since this thread appears to be abandoned (no-one knows the answer for the Rakshasa morale), I will dare post another question:
Whats the highest morale a creature can have?
BTW I don't want the "5" as an answer, though any values above doesn't matter ingame. Just add all possible bonuses together.

if you are academy, the mini-artifact at max gives you +7 to morale, and week of hope gives you another +1 (dragon ring doesn't add to morale)
a barbarian controlling academy creature = -1, so 27 + 7 = 34.
edit: i meant 32 (-1 -2 + 8 = +5)

i vaguely recall a town that gives a bonus to morale...
in the manual it is called yafiah, an academy town: + 1 to morale, so i guess the final answer is 33.
edit: actually there is a 2nd town called Hallin that also adds + 1 to morale

Don't you get a +2 morale bonus from the Tavern when you're defending a town? Or was that H3?

Yes, the town specialization. Actually, there are more than 2, I guess one for every faction. The final answer 33 is correct (given that mini-arties work even on another hero).
Well, there's a Leadership perk called Runic Attunement, which adds +2 to morale after rune casting for one round. If you have a creature with maximum possible initiative which gets morale each time it acts, and each time there's a rune casting, then the morale value can be really very high (possibly more than 33), but I am not going to count that .

actually runic attachment only lasts for one turn; you cannot possibly use that many runes to reach 33 morale in one turn
anyway, a new question for all:
you are the mighty zoltan, grand master of the necromantic arts.
recently you have been hired by a knight and a wizard who need you to destroy a legion of rogue paladins blocking a pass before their reinforcements arrive.
assume the following: you have a necromancer castle and a knight castle that are already fully built, the necromancer castle being a capital. both castles have the same dark spells: frenzy and curse of the netherworld. there are only minor artifacts in the area, and no places where you can directly learn spells(like dragon utopia, arcane libraries, etc.)
you have 3 heroes, zoltan, who is lvl 35, and a knight and wizard hero who are both 5th level. all heroes only know their castle spells and have no artifacts. you can hire other heroes.
there are other building structures around such as elemental confluxes, sacrificial altars, dwarven treasuries etc. but at most
one of each. (no artifact merchants, and no places where you can get hi level artifacts)
so your goal is this: you have to defeat 2671 paladins who are guarding a teleporter by the end of month 2 by any means possible within the mentioned limits. they are not in a garrison.
so my question is how can you do this? (i do have an answer in mind, if you can figure out something else though, i would be impressed!)
