Edited by Mytical at 06:04, 06 Aug 2008.

It all started about 30 years ago.  A young mage, just having finished his studies at the Academy, wanted to do something big and leave his mark on the world.  As luck would have it, he stumbled apon a vampire in torpor, it had not fed for too long and it's body had shut down until it sensed easy blood nearby.

Quickly casting spells to bind it before it woke and fed on HIM, he decided not to kill it, but study it.  Maybe he would find the secret to how to be immortal, but not have the hunger for human blood.  For 30 years he studied it in secret.  Feeding it just enough blood to perserve it.

Eventually he believed he had the secret, but of course was not foolish enough to test on himself.  He hired 3 apprentices, all straight from the academy.  He himself was held in high esteem, so they thought themselves very fortunate.  How wrong they were.

For each he tried 3 different formulas.  For awhile it seemed like it worked..then one day he came back and the apprentices were gone.  Soon word spread that 3 different new kinds of 'vampires' suddenly started spreading throut the land.  He quickly destroyed his lab, the vampire, and all records of his experiment.  He did not ever want this being traced back to him..but somebody knows..and seeks revenge.

Sadirs - The first experiment was the least successful.  Not only was the result too vampire like, they were a bit weaker.  But they did not suffer from all the drawbacks at least.  They do not suffer from word of light spells, but do not have the mind immunity of the undead.  They look like your typical mages, however they have greyish skin.

Caster, Fierce retaliation, Melee Penalty, Drain Blood.

Spells - Eldritch Arrow, fireball.

Drain Blood - like vampires they restore themselves by doing damage.  Equal to vampires ability.

Nazirs - The second experiment was a bit scarier..close to what the tests were for..close but not quite.  Darker greyish skin, wearing the robes of an archmagi.

Caster, Mana Bane, Melee Penalty, Double Strike.

Double strike - The creature gets two melee attacks instantly, with only one retaliation possible, even against foes that have unlimited retaliation.

Mana Bane - Any spells cast by enemy or enemy creatures cost double the mana while these creatures are on the field..half the mana goes to regenerate the creatures.

Sazim - Perhaps the scariest, though not the strongest, of the experiments..and almost a complete failure.  Imagine vampire lords wearing robes..there you have the Sazim.  Physically the weakest, their special abilities make up for this.

Undeath. Soul feed. Caster (starts with 0 mana)

Undeath - They are not undead, however if the entire stack is destroyed in battle 25% (rounded up) of the number of units the stack started with rise as vampire lords.

Soul Feed - When they kill creatures several things happen.  Not only are those creatures barred from being resurrected or raised, but the Sazim gain health equal to 30% and mana equal to 25% of the damage done (rounded down).  Does not work on mechanical or elemental creatures, but does on undead.

Caster - All destructive magics up to and including 3rd circle magics.

Fin.

Valkyries take a drink, gaining 504 health

Wow, Daystar, impressive works.
I would continue from where I stopped, but I feel like not going myself a reason to sit in front of the comp for many hours, so...

By the way, I would like to thank you, Sith, but I agree that I didn't really deserve to win on that round. Still, it was flattering and fun to see the mess it caused.

Sad Soul, neutral, tier 3.

Everyone knows that necromancers like to capture souls to turn them into ghosts.
Most of the time, everything goes well as the soul becomes mindless, but it sometimes fails and the ghost is aware of what he is.
After a while, they often can't stand to live as ghosts anymore, and since they can't die (they are already dead), they search a way to become human again, or rather human-like, to be able to interact more with living humans and to move away from living dead mindless creatures.
They are able to create ectoplasm from flesh and bones, which is basically like "stealing" the materiality of other creatures to restore their own.
It's a process that all ghosts are able to perform, but that few of them use.
_____________________________________________________________________

Abilities :
undead
incorporeal
create ectoplasm
materialize
desperate
_____________________________________________________________________

create ectoplasm : Activated ability. If the sad soul attacks a non-incorporeal, non-mechanical enemy, or targets a dead body, it creates ectoplasm. The sad soul gives a percentage of its incorporeality to the target but steals some of his attack and defense points.

materialize : Activated ability. The sad soul can give some of its ectoplasm to an incorporeal enemy. it's the inverse process as creating ectoplasm. the target gives a percentage of its incorporeality to the sad soul and the sad soul gives it attack and defense points.

note : the incorporeal ability can't get better than 70% chance to miss.

desperate : This creature is only affected by negative morale. Its damage increases for each point of negative morale.

(I hope the description isn't too confusing. I had trouble writing it. at least I think it's an original entry for this round)

Just for giggles here is a short list of things parasites could feed off of.

Attack, Defense, Damage (to enemy, to host, to both), health (of course), mana, mental energy (ie could turn enemy into undead or similar), anger, fear...and that is just a partial list.

My Entry...

Straight from that other Creature Contest

Broken Monk
Description: The Monks of the Broken Ones are the initiate in the Cult of the Blind Brothers. These initiates already passed the Right of Blindness, making them temporarily blind (the Blinding effect are dispelled if the snap out of it, otherwise, they're Permanent). The Initiates can be both Male and Female, and are learned how to use Magic correctly. Broken Monks aren't magically powerfull on their own, but if they can bind themselves to a Spellcaster  (both enemy and ally) they create a bridge between their Arcane Power and the one of the Targets and destribute the power Equally. Since the Broken Monks usually are the weakest caster of the two, they parasiticly drain Mana and Spells from their target, making them a lot more powerfull.

Appearance: Like that, but blindfolded and without lantern (They are Blind, so they don't need Lanterns

Attack: 8
Defence: 8
Damage: 5-9
Hit Points: 24
Speed: 3
Initiative: 9
Mana: 10
Growth: 5
Cost (approximate): Moderate
Specials: Immune to Blind, Caster, Arcane Bridge
Kind: Blind Brother - Humanoid
Arcane Bridge: The Creature binds itself to a spellcaster (can be both an ally or an enemy) creating an invisible Arcane Bridge between the creatures. The Creature gains 25% of the targets Mana instantly, and every time the target casts a spell, that spell appears in the Creature's Spellbook. In addition, there is a chance of 15% that that Spell will be blocked in the Target's spellbook. When Under the effect of this Ability, the Mastery of All the Creature's Basic spells (the ones it had before the Bridge) is increased by one. The Bridge collapses once one of the two Stacks dies, or when the Bridgebuilder chooses another target (so: when all of the target's mana is depeted) Only Spellcasters and Heroes can be targeted by the creature
Spellbook: Basic Fire Trap, Basic Arcane Chrystal

Tactics: Broken Monks are slightly below-average creatures on their own, but can become a real pain in the @$$ when Using Arcane Bridge. They are extremely Dangerous versus Academy and Dungeon, so these faction should beware. Their attack/defence is fine, their damage is average (but Damage Range is High) They aren't maneuverable though with only 3 Speed (Extremely low) and 9 initiative. (thse are low, as they are uneasy about their Blindness, and don't know how to move well ) A Quick Uprgrade is a prudent choice.

Upgrade: Blind Brother

Description: There is a difference between the Blind Brothers of Ashan, the Order of Seers, and their Brothers who serve the Dragon Knights. These have renounced the Second Sight and, though Seers, don't use this Skill anymore. Their Blindness is Permanent this time, there's no way back now. They are very erratic persons, they depend on the Gods to grant them Magical Power. This makes them erractic foes, but at times downright lethal. Attack them with caution
Appearance: like below, but with a Walking Stick.

Attack: 8
Defence: 10 (+2)
Damage: 5-9
Hit Points: 24
Speed: 3
Initiative: 11 (+2)
Mana: 20
Growth: 4
Cost (approximate): High
Specials: Immune to Blind, Caster, Arcane Bridge, Random Spellbook
Kind: Blind Brother - Humanoid
Spellbook: Random
Random Spellbook: At the Start of Combat Ramdomly gains three spells, that can be of any level and of any Mastery (chances see below)
Chances for getting spells: Lvl 1: No: 50% Bas: 40% Adv: 35% Exp: 20%
                           Lvl 2: No: 45% Bas: 35% Adv: 25% Exp: 20%
                           Lvl 3: No: 35% Bas: 30% Adv: 20% Exp: 15%
                           Lvl 4: No: 25% Bas: 20% Adv: 15% Exp: 10%
                           Lvl 5: No: 15% Bas: 10% Adv: 5% Exp: 1%

Tactics: With a Small increasement in Defence and (thank God!) Initiative, the Blind Brother is a statistically weak Lvl 4 Upgrade. Ramdom Spellbook is a Quite Imbalanced ability, and downright dangerous if combined with Arcane Bridge. Despite the low statts, this creature is extremely Dangerous, though the Chances are low, Expert Puppet Master can pop-up in their Spellbooks, but Basic Earthquake can as well. A liabilty, but usually one that is rewarding. Keep those fingers crossed.

Alternative Upgrade: Blind Sister
Description: The Female members of the Blind Brothers, the Blind Sisters don't fancy the Spellcasting life their Male Counterparts live. They themselves prefer a life in serenity and peace, while they train themselves in Martial Arts. Unlike the Brothers, they are a liability and with their Martial tricks they can sometimes preform an additional strike, in addition to their Spellcasting powers.
Appearance: Her skin is, of course, NOT blue for the rest a good image of what I had in my mind

Attack: 12 (+4)
Defence: 8
Damage: 7-11 (+2-2)
Hit Points: 28 (+4)
Speed: 5 (+2)
Initiative: 10 (+1)
Mana: 10
Growth: 4
Cost (approximate): High
Specials: Immune to Blind, Caster, Arcane Bridge, Swift Attack, Assault
Kind: Blind Brother - Humanoid
Spellbook: Basic Fire Trap, Basic Arcane Chrystal, Basic Slow

Tactics: With a nice, overall Statt Increasement, the Blind Sister is a good Offencive unit, in addition to their Mastery of Arcane Chrystal and Fire Trap. Swift Attack and Assault both a small abiliteis, but handy nontheless (especially when you realise that they can cast Slow
