idea: Single Unit style - dispersed or tight
idea about being able to put your SINGLE UNITS in two different formations - DISPERSED and TIGHT
Imagine 10 Titans against 100 dwarfes.
If those dwarfes are "dispersed" over the area they are taking - then it's harder for Titans to shoot them. Let's divide 100/10 = 10 - which means 1:10 - so This means that 1 Titan must try to shoot 10 dwarfes that are dispersed... if they were tight near each other - it will make more damage - it's like trying to shoot with a gun at 10 bananas near each other, and if they are not - you can't aim well...
But this will make everyplayer to not want his dwarfes not dispersed. But if these dwarfes were attacking the enemy and they were TIGHT then they'll make more damage to it.
So i have this idea - to have this keyboard command 'T' - which changes before fight/or defend how the units to be dispersed or TIGHT. Also in dispersed mode they run faster - but when they are tight - they are slower.
In the army for example - when soldiers are going back - they are not going alltogether (at least bulgarian army - when I was). They are going two by two - but from large distance one each other.

---- if you got the picture
O is a soldier, and S is commanding sergeant of 5-10 soldiers.
The idea is not to keep a line - if they go backward in one line - they'll die - if enemy finds a line to shoot them.
But when attacking it's good (as i remmember) to be tight - when comes to near fight.
ahh... too hard to explain...

i like this - you have one very good tactical idea
and why not disperse during the battle - you can lose one round for this?

It may work for small groups but if you have a swarm of Halberdiers then tight and close formations within a stack isn't really applicable. So the idea would work for small numbers, perhaps up to 50 but not for larger groups.
All in all it seems doubtful if the idea would be worth the extra administration and the extra complications you need to consider in combat. For instance a loose formation may help against a single dragon, but if you instead face a horde of Skeletons a tight formation should be better than a loose one.
Tactics is supposed to give the hero the ability to arrange troops, so the bonuses bestowed by that skill could be seen as a way to implement this but in a seemless way to the one who performs combat. To have the hero confer bonuses this way is probably a good idea, as without a commander you wouldn't get the troops to form proper formations anyway.
