Typically people play on hard with simultaneous turns. I have some map recommendations in the first post of the FAQ sticky  Of course multiplayer map popularity comes and goes but each of those has something different to offer.

no manual
Hello,
Recently I bought the Collector's edition of this great game since i thought there would be nice extra stuff in it. The edition exists of HoMM 5 and both the expansions and a bonus DVD. However, there was no manual included in the package. So my question is, how can I play online, while i do not have a manual with the cd-key?
I hope someone can help me, I want to play online!

Good old Checksum 0.2.0 error
If you don't know it, you never played LAN multiplayer.
You can be the oldest veteran around. This error is still a specter which roams the LAN lobbies and refuses to leave, version after version.
We all learned how to prevent it. Use same map versions, avoid mods, never leave more than one map on the main map folder. Don't accumulate too many saves... and so on.
For more than a year now I've had the pleasure of using Hamachi 1.0.1.5 for multiplaying with close friends, and it has been working like a charm. We are quite familiar to the whole process and the difficulties of it.
But this time good ol' checksum 0.2.0 is driving me insane. An old friend decided to start playing Heroes on Hamachi, and it worked lovely during my vacations when we had our computers plugged together in Brazil. Now that we are some thousand miles apart we are trying it again via Hamachi, and...
WE SIMPLY CAN'T.
We are both playing TotE 3.1 without mods. We have downloaded maps from the same source and our files match. No more than ONE map is placed on \MAPS directory. We tried both Genesis 1.9 and Rat Race 1.3. Hamachi being used is version 1.0.1.5, with all services enabled. His game version is Gold Edition, mine is the European (German probabaly) version, both properly updated. Both are online on the same room in Hamachi, and I can see clearly the game specifications as he creates it (or vice-versa).
The error happens independent of who creates the game.
Checksum error 0.2.0.
Anyone with any further suggestion to help a brother out?

Wolfsburg, when the computers were together you were not using Hamachi? And now you are in separate locations and using Hamachi but heroes 5 ToTE is giving you Checksum 2.0 error? This is an accurate summary?
Also I'm missing the meaning of:

I'll just mention a few things (you've probably already tried it but it can't hurt to say it, it's hard not to sound condescending so sorry if it seems like it )
Troubleshooting by process of elimination:
* does it work ok by using standard ubi map?
* perhaps remove ALL saves including autosaves from other games?
* maybe double-check map is exactly the same...weird thing is I once experienced this even tho map was same name but it was actually different (version number wasn't strictly enforced in that occasion)...can check size of file in bytes, else even email your opponent your map to ensure exactly same map.
there is a hamachi facility to automatically upgrade version... I don;t tick that...maybe this is what PhoenixReborn was hinting at...
on an unrelated note: I have a feeling that hamachi 2 priority is sorta superseding some of the previous version services & hence sometimes hamachi doesn't seem to work between myself & certain opponents

In the first scenario I was using a different computer while he was using his current one. We were plugged in a real LAN, therefore not using Hamachi. Back then it worked perfectly. Now I am abroad using another PC and same game version while he sticks to his same PC and game version. We are now using Hamachi to emulate a LAN.

Sorry. Thats the layman in me speaking. I mean we haven't checked "block microsoft windows vulnerable services" nor any other security restriction.
I haven't tried an Ubi map. Do you think that this would help defining if the problem stems from Hamachi?
Re-reloading the map from various sources was already attempted.
Next game we'll try to clear ALL autosaves, we didn't remove all of them. That is a serious point to consider.
Anyway, I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for the tips, still.

So, after extensive long range troubleshooting we got to the root of the problem. Somehow the map "The Giants" was spawned all over his harddrive. He had about 15 copies of the same file in different folders. We still didn't figure out how it happened, but it was scathered all over the place. Since it was a long distance troubleshooting I couldn't verify myself the locations of the spawned files, but apparently one or more of those locations have caused a disturbance. Although none of the files was actually in the /Maps folder, they were in a location where the game recognized them, thus causing the conflict.
As a solution I recommended him to run a search under the name of "the giants" on windows search tool and he found all of the replicants. They were all deleted, thus allowing multiplayer on Hamachi to work again.
I know this is not an accurate error report, for I was not myself solving the problem, but perhaps it shall be useful in the future for someone else.
Using the windows search tool with *.h5m may show any maps on suspicious locations.

Hello! I have bougth Heroes 5, tribes of the east and for a hour ago I try to play it online. But then I needed the 3.01 patch so I went to get it and try to install. But this is were I get a problem, I get this
An installation support file C and alot of words and numbers) could not be installed.
Im not good at computers so my way to take care of this was that I wanted to uninstall the game but then I get this message to.
So what should I do?

What exactly did the message say? Can you type it here or post a screenshot?
My uneducated guess would be either a wrong language version of the patch or you tried to install it in the wrong directory.
No idea about the uninistallation problem, could you post what exactly the message said?

Damn... now this game has really decided to try my patience.
I've played it without a hint of a trouble for almost 2 years now, and suddently it is trying to drive me insane.
Current problem:
After sucessfuly playing Art of War 1.3 on Hamachi with my Heroes-partner we tried to start a new game in another map and it simply wont work. As usual everything was made in the correct shape, only one map in the map folder, no mods, no saves on the save folder, both with Hamachi 1.0.1.5 since ages, no previous notice of that error.
Reason why it wont work is that an invisible map on top of the maplist seems to be preventing the connection. As shown bellow. This error happens to BOTH of us.
Funny enough, it wont happen with every map, for instance Abysmal, Dragons Cape, The Giants, Rat Race and some other will work normally (which mean the invisible map won show up), while Genesis-, Genesis Dark, and others simply wont (stalker map will show up).
Any thoughts on why this is happening?
Search for hidden files, *.h5m files didn't gave any conflicting locations for maps.
Argh.

Since all other maps work that means the issue is with that specific map. Have you both re-downloaded? Invisible maps only appear after a custom map has been edited, by itself it may be annoying but it doesn't create conflicts. Maybe one of you opened the map to check something?

Not sure what your problem is... I mean we have the same thing with a few of Elvin and vecos Duel Map variations but I assume the map you wanted to play was Genesis 1,9 right? There is a blank space sometimes but it doesn't obstruct your gaming in any way. I mean it's not that your PC crashes or that you can't create the game is it? It's just there. Don't let it bother you^^.
Or was there some other problem that caused for you?

No one edited no map... we didnt even take a look at them in the editor. Its just the regular maps, as always, and not only Genesis, but others too.
I've tried deleting Art of War 1.3 (map previously played), but nothing happened. I can't think of something that would have corrupted the maps without our influence.
Let me try reloading it...
