???

There are so much more then raiding (which is really, really fun by the way - only stepping into Medivhs tower was cool).

You can PvP in lots of diffrent ways - and in the next expansion there is a whole new zone that is PvP only.

You can play on a roleplaying server so why not start a tavern in Stormwind? Particate in a wedding? Create a guild that is a sub-faction of the Kirin Tor (aka Dalaran) ?
Create order of Paladins attempting to retake Lordaeon from the Forsaken and the Scourge?

Or why not just explore the huge world?
With the new archivment system there are lots of new things to do.
Why not go to the breathtaking Thousand Needles? Explore the forests of Ashenvale? Or go to the huge tree Teldrassil?
Or look at the Scourge bases and the Necropolis Naxxramas in Lordaeon? (although it recently moved to Northrend).
Or walk through the mountains of Khaz Modan and watch the Stonewrough Dam - one of Azeroths wonders.
Or why not venture deep into the Blackrock Mountain or travel to the now active Dark Portal?

Or why not start a new character - another race and class and leveling up in completly different areas and in a new style?

Why not try to master proffessions? With the new patch a new proffession came, Inscription allows you to modify your spells and abilities.

Or why not join a guild and do fun events and make new friends?

Or why not to thousands of quests and learn more of the Warcraft storyline and the WoW "campaign"?

Or why not attack and defeat víllians like Kel'thuzad or kill Onyxia?

There is so much to do. There is a reason wow has 11 million active accounts - and each accoutn have a round 3-4 characters.

Ok ok... I wasn't really serious you know

If WoW wasn't so damn expensive I could consider playing it for a while, I mean, I'm sure it's good but not that good.

It's simply too much money for a game... at least for me.

Arrgh... Age of Reckoning has a monthly fee too... Another game I'll never play...

I don't get it really... wouldn't the best way to steal WoW players be to not have a monthly fee?

I mean, no-monthly-fee is pretty much the foundation of Guild Wars' success

I would recommend Guild Wars 1 but the new one is nearly out and it's going to be epic.

In most MMOs (most, not all) there is a monthly fee, so its nothing you can get away from sadly...
But a MMORPG is so huge and needs money to work and develop. Blizzard also gains 70-80 dollars per second only though WoW and they need it to develop our other favorite games
( aka Starcraft and Diablo and the unnanouched MMO that is set in a new universe)

It think PvP is the only salt that WoW has. Some may said that raiding is it, but no, what other purpose you could possibly raid than getting better equipment? And usually this equipment is not even meant to be used for PvP, but raiding again. So basically you raid so you could raid even better.
Although, at the first time, it is somewhat amusing to go see inside raid instances but it gets dull very quickly.

Seriously, who ever starts a tavern? At first, taverns are started like this: You go into an empty house and yell: "Come to my tavern!"
Then you can do what? Wait for people to come and sell them beer? Honestly, there is not going be a queue for your tavern.

A wedding? I never saw any wedding...

How would this Kirin Tor guild differ from any other guild? It's not like that all members in that guild are gonna have special powers. It's just the name. Maybe you could restrict the guild only for mages, but then it would suck because you can't raid anything with just mages and nowadays guilds hardly do anything together but raid.

This paladin order attempt of taking Lordaeron from the undeads is just speculation. At first, you would need maybe 100+ dudes to kill the boss in Undercity if we count in her guards and all the horde players that are going to have fun harassing you. And most of the people you get with you are just some unorganized noobs who just wanna come along becoz it's kewl.
And what best! Even if you managed to kill the boss, she will respawn after some time has passed.

This is what I liked about WoW when I had made my first character, going to new places and see how it's like. But you can't just go whereever you want immediately after you've begun your playing. You got to do it patiently by leveling up little by little so that stronger monsters won't kill you in new places because that's exactly what they're going to do. Monsters alot higher level than you, always critical hit you, almost everytime one hit kill you and they can see you from miles away so you may just stand somewhere and suddenly you notice some frikking bear rushing towards you in the horizon. And you can't escape because they're always faster than you. Then you're dead and you arrive as a ghost to a graveyard and you have to run to your corpse to resurrect just to step few steps after that and you're again being chased by some wolf.

But however, once you've seen every place (it happens very easily as you do quests at the same time to level up) it gets boring. I had explored every frikking corner at least thrice so it's not so interesting anymore.

Quote:

This a very good side about WoW. It's always interesting to have different skills and spells and different ways to own monsters and other players. One thing I really liked was to rearrange my talent tree.

Quote:
Why not try to master proffessions? With the new patch a new proffession came, Inscription allows you to modify your spells and abilities.

Leveling up these professions is exceedingly tedious and usually extremely expensive and slow, but it's cool when you have max skill and people ask for your service to do something and they pay for it, although sometimes it gets annoying when all kinds of noobs start asking for your service: "plix! can u maek enchant pliXx?" every once in a while.

Quote:
Or why not join a guild and do fun events and make new friends?

I don't know about events... if guild arranges any, they're usually very crappy but if you're good tank, damage dealer or healer with good equipment, you could be invited to a good raiding guild and raids. After all, frankly said, raiding is the only thing guilds exist for.

Quote:
Or why not to thousands of quests and learn more of the Warcraft storyline and the WoW "campaign"?

There are eight types of quests: Kill certain amount of these monsters, gather certain amount of organs from these monsters, kill this particular monster, talk to this guy somewhere, gather these items on the ground somewhere, use this item to do something somewhere and then return to me or go check this place and return to me.
These are the commands you're going to have all the time until you've gained your max level after which you start doing PvP or instances for better equipment.

About the storyline, if you're interested, you learn better if you just go to WoWwiki.

Quote:
Or why not attack and defeat víllians like Kel'thuzad or kill Onyxia?

After The Burning Crusade -expansion pack was released all these bosses were totally abandoned except for some guys who just wanted to have little fun. After all, there was no bigger point to gather enough players to kill them because you were able to get better items from single man -quest rewards in Outland than from these old raid instances.
Same is going to happen for Outland raid instances after WotLK is released.

As a conclusion I would say that there are four things that keep WoW alive:
PvP (including arena), raiding, character versatility and the fact that it is constantly patched.

Well if you are going MMO, WoW is a good choice.  Despite my utter disdain for the grinding aspect of it.  That is why it has so many subscribers.  However, there are several to consider.  EQ 2, Pirates Online, Guild Wars, and MANY MANY others.

One thing with WoW though is..get ready to spend a bloody fortune if you want to have access to all the possibilities.  You will pay for the original, burning crusade, and wotlk when it comes out.  You will get maybe a whole month free, then you will pay a fee.  But it will last you a LONG LONG LONG time before you want to shoot yourself in the foot when you realize that you have burned $1000's of dollars and endless hours for nothing .
