They say adults don't hang out as much as kids.
Gil doesn't have a perfect life, but at least he doesn't annoy others. Simple.

Gill however is more promit to sucide. it is clear that Dan is a survivle, everything he is done,he did it to survive, socially or healthy, but to survive. that is more then what can be said on Gil. however Gil life are also boring, and he will grew so bored out of hes life tat every little drama will be gods blessing to him. Dan has the same thought of conflicts that is why he is pushing hes life. however no respect for woman, and sleeping with 'snows' well i wouldnt say there snows. hes 15 and there probbly not older, unless hes me,but it comes with time and age. Gil is almost 18. hes older and more mature,so it is about time he grew a life.

Yes, simple, but how can you enjoy life if you have absolutely no one?! No friends or anything. That's how I have felt at times and let me tell you, as soon as I got a job, most of my perspective changed. It's more enjoyable to be off the computer than to be on it. I wouldn't mind getting drunk and enjoying it with my friends because it would be a part of living life. Sitting on the computer not only wastes time it also means you're not living life. Getting out there with your friends and enjoying yourself is a big part of what it's all about.

I wouldn't exactly call Dan's life a negative one. Sitting on the computer all day doing nothing at all is what I would call a negative one. Having no friends is a negative life.

Based on what they are right now both are pathetic. However I think that Gil has a better chance of a evolving into something better, it's easy for Dan to do something stupid or get into a gang or drugs. Gil may have an apathetic way of life - actually lack of one - but has a better potential and may be more positive in re-evaluating things with some support.

Yeah, but that would be the hard thing for him to get: Support. Friends are usually one of the best ways in getting support, your family as well, but the combination of both friends and family supporting you is great and would be of much better help than just your family IMO.

Uhh.. If his family was like mine they wouldn't give him much of choice Unless we are dealing with totally insensitive or uncaring parents they would be sure to do something about it and the easiest way is to pull the plug or make him go work.
Besides it is already stated that Dan hates his life as well. Anyway baklava has stated things pretty well, I won't pretend I don't despise both. I just see Gil as the lesser evil, our lives could be so much better if there were less jerks around.

Like was said in Genielord's post about Gil:
Quote: Gil never meets people, he never goes out. Rarely he spends time with his family, although he's in a permanent fight with them.
I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be the people that Gil would be looking to for support.

Perhaps, but you see, I've been in a similar situation and my parents weren't the people that I went looking to for support. They wouldn't have been able to help. RL friends did help because they are the same age as me and would most likely have or be going through a similar thing that my mum and dad wouldn't understand. First thing for Gil to do would be to try and get a job and at least get out of the house and into the real world. Getting a job is a good way of building communication skills which Dan is already quite good at since he has friends.

Depends of course but from what I've seen parents never leave you to get burned for too long. You may not necessarily get support or sympathy but you may get your butt kicked and some sense knocked into your thick skull. Yes I've seen some people like that.

It's kind of a strange question. If you became one of them then your/his behaviour would immediately change wouldn't it? But if you're/his behaviour didn't change, then basically you're just watching a 3D sim of somebody elses life, unable to make even the slightest change to your/his destiny until the day you die. I believe this would be the most hellish punishment you could possibly inflict on somebody.
Is the question "Which person's circumstances would you most prefer to be placed in"? because if that's the case I'd take either. Heck, knowing then what I know now? phhhhhh

This coming from a geek
What do you mean "doing nothing at all"? He could just as well sleep if that's the case. And that would still be better -- after all, at least he doesn't influence others negatively or annoys them.
Hey I bet your average alcoholic dad who beats his wife had a better life than Gil too, doesn't mean I'll choose that guy. It simply disgusts me... things that Dan does, just to be in "yo the gang" or "the trend" or whatever.
Gil at least... sits there at his computer and doesn't bother.
EDIT: he has internet at least -- he trains his brain instead of killing it with alcohol or whatever else, keeps it "in shape". Brain needs 'exercises' too, not just your muscles.
EDIT2: Also it's far easier for Gil to get out of the **** hole than dan

Do you know people who are 100% Dan or Gil? In RL life or at HC?
I had a friend named Tanya who is exactly like Dan. Started drinking, smoking, rarely visiting school. She was quite good in school actually, her average was 92. She helped me with math on the 7th grade. But her average has gotten to 45 by the end of the 9th grade, and no high school in the city agreed to accept her. She studies in a dormitory outside of the city.

I used to know a person like Dan. Very well. He changed his habits when he got accepted to high school.
Never met a person like Gil. But since he has no life outisde his room no wonder though.

Yeah I have a friend like Dan, 17 or 18 now I think. These days he works as a bouncer in some club for minimum wage.
I also know a few "half-Gils" who spend most of their time playing Far Cry 2 with one another. And an obsessive WoWer.
