Posting limits

People try to state their point of view, and should be taken seriously! This will make it easier to involve more members into such threads and have a discussion with many more interesting opinions
This is a point of departure for my idea.
Another part of the idea is the Volcanic Wastelands. In that sub-forum the normal post limits are removed to allow for freedom of expression of nonsense.
This idea goes in the other direction. On another forum I go to there is a maximum post limit of 2 per day no matter the sub-forum. This makes sure people only participate when they have worth saying. I think having a similar limit in the OSM might encourage more people to participate without fear of having their words either
A) Ignored
B) Over-analyzed
I wouldn't want an overall limit, and the actual number per time period is debatable, but only applying to OSM. Not sure if it is technically possible though.
Thoughts?

I strongly dislike this idea. It would absolutely kill the Other Side.

no, it will stop pointless 1v1 quote wars in the OSM (hopefully).

If this was implemented, I would leave the OSM completely. What's the point if you can't debate? And I haven't been in any quote wars in a while. And there's nothing preventing people from jumping into them.
People should just get a hold of themselves and stop complaining about the OSM.

There is a problem when someone quotes someone else and possibly draws a wrong conclusion -- then until that person ever posts again, the discussion might have already been flooded with another subject, and taking that (wrong) conclusion as granted for what it meant. Imagine then saying "Guys, that was not what I was talking about!" and (consequently) making everyone's post on the subject possibly not just off-topic but without a place to be there.

There's nothing wrong with going off-subject, either, unless the TC complains.

No but going off-track for someone who didn't even mean that, it is.
For example, let's say person X misinterpreted an argument from Y and says "What? You think pedophilia is ok?"
and then people talk about that misinterpretation and about person Y. Finally, person Y can post again and says "That's not even what I meant" --> you realize that all of the posts are USELESS before that, because they posted on a subject that involved a wrong assumption?

That happens anyway.
In this method the person saying "You think pedophilia is ok?" would stop and think 'gee I don't want to waste one of my precious posts today on something as trivial and obviously pointlessly argumentative as this'.

That doesn't sound like a mature response. You haven't even seen the range of the limits or attempted to argue about the reasoning behind them. Plus, it's not all about you.

You can.
Quote: And I haven't been in any quote wars in a while.
Irrelevant information. You can still have "quote wars". It's about trying to make each post worthwhile and of higher quality than 'spam'.
Quote: And there's nothing preventing people from jumping into them.
Why would anyone want to?
Quote: People should just get a hold of themselves and stop complaining about the OSM.
Who else is complaining about OSM? Examples please.

The idea limits the number of posts per period of time. You can post what you, want it makes no limit on content.
Ok a sub-part of this idea is
"How can we get more people involved in OSM?"
Because I've seen comments like "I'm not going to respond to every little word you quoted". It's a big turn-off for some people.

You've described the range of limits. And currently the OSM mostly consists of me, TheDeath, JJ, and Father. If I left, that would significantly damage it.
Not to mention that the limit would kill some threads completely.
Quote: You can.
Well, you can, but not very well. Why should I just sit there and wait for my rebuttal when I can post it now?
Quote: It's about trying to make each post worthwhile and of higher quality than 'spam'.
Spam isn't allowed in the OSM anyway. And not everything has to be a 50-page long essay to be a useful post.
Quote: Why would anyone want to?
Why would anyone want to participate in any debate? If they want to, they can just jump in just like into any other debate.
Quote: Who else is complaining about OSM?
Currently, just you. But others have complained in the past: Asheera, Pan, etc.

Unnecessary.
I see no real reason for this.
It would reduce the popularity of the OSM, which is bad imo. While I don't participate in the threads very often, I enjoy reading them.

I certainly can't blame Asheera for complaining. She can't make a post anywhere on HC or CH without The Death responding often negatively though not always. It's harassment.

The OSM isn't popular at all. Why don't you participate?
Oh and I don't remember Pan complaining, I remember her asking "What are you trying to prove?

I'd rather say no one can debate about Asheera cause anywhere that post is made you harass me. Some proof? (oh, and recently btw, not just "hey, you see, I can keep on my single example every time!" -- actually, take a RATIO of my posts about it, that would be more fair... cause obviously you are going to cling on the same things. Even if I post 50 stuff a day, 10 of which are about Asheera, and 1 negative criticism, you will cling on that, I mean it's not like the other posts matter do they?)
