This is just another way of advertising for WoW even if indirectly. I mean, if people will play over Battle.net, a 'free' WoW would be tempting for some people.

First: That's a lie. I've played it a lot. I really wanted it to be a good game.
Second: How can that be a valid arguement since you actually don't know?

These kind of threads really have their way to bring me into a grumpy mood. I am always very disappointed in most of you (especially Xerox, but for other reasons) for claiming that Blizzard Entertainment's reasonable new policy to charge a monthly fee for using their online gaming services is a product of personal greed on the behalf of the big corporate suits.
They are not necessarily being greedy, they and their employees are all just people who have families that they need to provide sustenance to. (keeping up an upper class lifestyle isn't free you know )
What the heck do you think they are going to do with all that money anyway? Buy solid gold cars and houses? I highly doubt that. They are most likely using the money to upkeep their quality online gaming services and fund all of their projects. With more funding in their projects they should be capable of producing more high quality products for us (the consumers) to enjoy.
And my point is:
It is okay if you feel that their online gaming services are not worth the monthly fee and you are free (and encouraged) to express that. (How else are they going to do any marketing research if they can't get your opinion?)
But claiming that they are just being the greedy pieces of corporate suit just like every other darn capitalist is just being naive (and human).
Visual aids & nutshell:
"I do not think that their online gaming services are worth the monthly fee and I'd rather go and find an alternative."
"Someone ought to punch those greedy corporate suit capitalist exploiters and oppressors in the face! They suck!!!11"

keksimaton,
I disagree
It's just like with DVD's you can watch on digital tv. The people want as much money as possible, so they charge you everytime you get online.
And why doesn't guild wars need all that money?

same with me. There is no reason why games like Diablo3 or SC2 would ever require a monthly fee, though.
Xerox misinterpreted the news. just because there is a shared "master" account, doesn't mean any fee will be required except for WoW.

Keksimaton:
They have TEN MILLION WoW subscribers paying $15 a month. That's JUST WoW. And that's not even counting the expansions or the price of the original game.
Starcraft 1 has sold millions of copies. WCIII sold very well, Starcraft 2 is guaranteed to be an instant blockbuster, as is Diablo 3.
I guess my point is saying that Blizzard needs more money than they're already making to pay their employees and their corporate bosses is blatantly incorrect. I'm not saying Blizzard shouldn't be trying to make money, they're a business after all, but let's not pretend that making people pay for DIII and SCII online is anything but what it is. Greed.

No, its 12 million now.
All those that play WAR etc have returned lol. They are so tempted to try out the new patch so they cant leave WoW!
Also Blizzard has stolen some things from WAR lately to steal its players.
Blizzard does use their money:
1. Think about all the hundreds, if not a thousands, servers they have. Only in WoW. They cost much.
2. They need it to develop future WoW expansions and improve its graphic engine, game mechanics etc. An example is WotLK where graphics were upgraded a lot without removing the Warcraft feeling (please dont whine that its cartoonish now, everybody has different tastes and 12 million is more then you).
3. They need it to develop their next-gen MMO. Probably Universe of Starcraft as the Chinese recently rejected Starcraft: Ghost because of its name - hinting that it is been worked on as the next-gen MMO.
4. They need to createt he prequel to universe of Starcraft - Starcraft 2.
5. They need it to create Diablo 3.
6. They need it to pay all their employes.
7. They probably also use some of it to support Activison-Blizzard etc.
8. They use it for commercials etc.
9. They use it for beautiful cinematics.
10. And much, much more.

Quote: And why doesn't guild wars need all that money?
Because they get their money from releasing a whole bunch of low content expansion packs or "campaigns".
Quote: I guess my point is saying that Blizzard needs more money than they're already making to pay their employees and their corporate bosses is blatantly incorrect.
Funding projects and keeping a bunch of servers up and running does not necessarily mean just paying the corporate bosses and their employees.
Quote: but let's not pretend that making people pay for DIII and SCII online is anything but what it is. Greed.
Those servers aren't exactly free. What would there be to gain for keeping them online? (other than the gratitude of their thousands of fans and other players ) It is only business.
Quote: just because there is a shared "master" account, doesn't mean any fee will be required except for WoW.

HC not playing Blizzard games will surely make a HUGE difference in Blizzards economy
Actually, its a smart move of them even if you dont like it.
More people will overpopulate the servers now... lol

Could I ask you a straight question?
Are you in reality a 40 year old Blizzard PR rep in the guise of a monumentally naive and confused teen with either a poor or peculiar taste in humour, secretly heading an international plot to leech profits from multiple countries' vulnerable economic situations, thereby directing millions of somewhat ill-gotten dollars/euros/lira/whathaveyou into your employers' money-grubbing coffers?
Just crossed my mind is all.
