To be honest with you, as much as I knew it was all for April Fool's - I was quite serious in the things that I said. After seeing the aftermath of the joke, I can't say that I think no QP's would be such a bad thing..
Everything I mentioned that I dislike about the system is exactly how I feel.
What I said about having no use for anyone who only comes here so that they can earn red stars is true.
While I never had any intention of letting the -QP to Asheera stay, nor would I ever penalize someone for a statement like that without talking to them first - I do truly find it distasteful when people decide to rain on someone else's parade.
All that I left out was what's good about the QP system

I made sure to let people know that I was not bringing the health issue into it for a reason. Yeah, it is very real (in case you want to know, it is 7am est april 2). Look in the random thoughts thread for more detail if you are interested.

Those who didn't laugh with the joke should grow a sense of humour or at least sense of irony I've told you guys before, life is too important to take it seriously - it is plain for all to see what happens when you do. Now that was gold comedy and comedy's role isn't just to entertain people but to open their eyes as well. I think this is exactly what it did and some posts were pant pissing hilarious while at that The issues brought up were not fake but also not deadly serious, read between the lines. There are many things to reflect on if you are to understand what really happened, don't dismiss everything as a joke. And be careful what you wish for, you may get it.

It wasn't funny. I have now seen the true madness within and I cannot simply let it pass. I can't pretend that people were not upset and did not say all of those angry and even hurtful things.
HC will never feel the same again.

Not funny when the QP removal in fact was a good change (if you remove flood protect and post limit)...

I didn't fall for it.
Lexxan:
By the way you acted, I assumed you were in on the joke.
Mods:
So who was in on the joke? Obviously, all of you. And Acu. Was Asheera?

Madness? THIS IS SPARTA! Look around you keksi, that happens every day, in every place even if you had not noticed. Yet people go on and forgive each other. (Or get bitter and don't enjoy their life as they should ) It's called being human.
Edit: Only Acu knew as far as I know. And those that guessed right I guess, we kept to ourselves to avoid spilling the beans

Elvin, this patronizing tone is just annoying. Like you mods would be the streetwise, smart guys who just thought up this eye-opener of a prank for the good of all users here to teach them some really valuable lesson to make them all better people.
Even if that was true, as I said, if you play with people's emotions you have to stand a slap and a curse, before people relax. Because what you cannot do is go ahead and tell people how they should feel now, since it was all just a joke and such an intelligent eye-opener as well.
To me it looks like you cannot stand the slap and the curse you shouldn't be surprised to get from the likes of Lexxan and Father.
That you make fun of me seems to be an indication that you doesn't seem to be able to respect other people's feelings as they are. Of course their is always just one "correct" way to react emotionally on something, now, isn't it, and that's the official version.
It looks like the eye-opening process isn't finished yet.

To be honest I was concerned with how some people took it. But then I always get a passing pang of guilt in April Fool's, I have a bad reputation for that in the past few years
With that I should say that I'm sorry for messing with people in hcm or msn, I had to play my part - but then Azagal and Veco will probably be laughing about it now. I also posted a few barbs to incite the arguments a bit, normally I try to calm things down. Anyways no hard feelings I hope

So, what are all the HC April Fool's jokes?
2001:
2002:
2003:
2004:
RSF creates a bunch of "Dingo Rules" threads and gives him a bunch of QPs, while whining with his RSF4 account. Shadowcaster is in on the joke.
2005:
HC is sold to McDonalds.
2006:
Avatars are switched, HC becomes for-profit.
2007:
ADAM, the robot mod.
2008:
None.
2009:
This.

HC has a long history of April Fool's, and it seems Val has really been bold this time. I think it was funny, especially some of the reactions it provoked
I have never liked the QP system because of its subjective nature. Since bonuses and penalties are applied by people, the system is fundamentally unjust. That doesn't mean moderators don't try their best to judge every post by its value, but it's a tough job. Not to mention the differences in judgment between the moderators from time to time.
Speaking of QP, you can compare HC with an office with different departments. The managers of all the different departments give people a salary raise when they feel those employers deserve one, and punish or fire employees who disbehave. Now imagine what would happen in the office if everyone would be informed about the income of all of their colleagues... This would obviously generate tension between the employees and also towards the management. Well at HC, everyone can see other member's "salary"...
Even though I personally don't like the QP system, I think it makes HC unique and more appealing to many people. The QP system has one fundamental flaw in my opinion.
+QP are used to indicate quality posts. -QP are used to penalize bad behaviour. When a member gets 4 QP for excellent posts or contributions to HC, and then verbally insults another member in a discussion that got out of hand and gets 2 -QP he/she has 2 QP left. Now what does this mean? Are 2 of the 4 excellent posts suddenly not good anymore? This is quite absurd, don't you think? Or as a second example, a member who has never really earned a QP gets a -QP and suffers from increased floodprotect. A member with 10 QP goes berserk and gets -5 QP, but still doesn't suffer from increased floodprotect. The result of the penalty(s) is very unfair towards the first member, compared to the second member who did a lot more damage to the community. Besides, does making a number of quality posts give a member the right to misbehave for a longer period of time than people who did not make posts that were given a QP? That would be like saying people who are caught stealing but who donate to charity every month could get off with a warning, whereas others would go straight to jail.
I believe the solution to this problem is relatively simple. Keep the +QP, but disconnect them from floodprotect and abolish -QP. Instead, use a second rating for behaviour, which also controls flood protect. That way members with many +QP would think twice before they misbehave. Also, moderators could decide to relieve a member of his/her floodprotect for their continued good behaviour, or redeem a member who has made a one time mistake. It would make penalizing a member more efficient as well. Those 'behaviour points' don't necessarily need to be indicated by stars, but could replace the promising, admirable, ... tags for instance.
Anyway, just some thoughts...
Cheers,
Nidhgrin
