I dig Pokemon games because they're as raw TB games as one can possibly get (its deepness is another matter of course), plus they evoke that little child inside of me, which is embarrassing, but pleasant
Creator of (in my opinion) the best Polish gaming Youtube channel, arhn.eu, once stated that you become a mature gamer only when you have guts to admit that you like "games for children" like Mario and Pokémon. There is truly nothing embarassing in it.
Yeah, there are quite a few people who claim such things. And I don't disagree with them.
The best of such statements, and I'm likely paraphrasing here, is : "The surest sign of emotional maturity is to do away the label of childish. For to mark something as childish, is to be childish yourself."

Yeah I know...
But try to say the same thing with a fake smile when asking a clerk for a Diance code in a distribution point: "ergh, urgh... it's for my kid brother [lifts collar of his overcoat]"
Fortunately gaming and collecting is getting more and more of a serious treatment lately When I was ordering my copy adding that the figurine is of most importance, they didn't ask questions

Is anyone else using Grumpig? I am surprised how useful it is.
Conversely, I'm kind of disappointed in Altaria

No, I like dual types, so I rarely use single type mons. Though Grumpig has always come across to me as a strong/usefull mon.
I was never that impressed with Altaria to begin with and I always did have a bit of an aversion to cute looking mons.

It is opposite for me. I tend to use the cuter mons and not use the uglier ones (hariyama doesn't count because makuhita is SOOO ADORABLE TO ME )
But yes, Grumpig's really great. I don't think it's cute, just really lolzy (it's a pig dressed in motley. come on.). In any case its in-game movepool is really great and its spatk/hp/spdef are wonderful. I will definitely use it more often in the future.
But yeah, Altaria is actually better competitively than in-game because it's tanky rather than offensive. (regular Altaria makes for a really great Toxic staller in lower tiers) Mine's pretty useful though because it knows Feather Dance, but it won't have many uses other than Support until I obtain its mega stone

In terms of cuteness I think Poke-Amie moved the game a step further.
By using it, you can find out that, as an example, Pokes like Beldum or Slugma (all those "burn" memes) can be rally kawaii
Though I guess it also has it's "downsides":
PS: And on the subject of cuteness :

Besides, Sylveon looks cute but in terms of battles it is a true beast and is currently the best Eeveelution obtainable. Better have some Poison or Steel or otherwise it will destroy youwith its good offence and defence.

Regarding powerful moves on lower leveled mons, it's actually more OP at lower levels.
If we call Attackers Attack and Def stats for AA and AD respectively, the Defenders Attack and Def stats for DA and DD respectively, given the way the game works then if AA > DD then for lower levels, powerful moves are ensured to be even more powerful.
To simplify, ignore the attack and defense calculations and simply consider this. Damage from moves after being factored with attack and def stats removes a fixed amount of health proportional to the move power. Since move power is independent of level the only resistance is the amount of health removed. Since lower leveled mons have lower health, the moves are more powerful against them.
To simplify completely, imagine it just happens to be that after taking all factors into account move power = damage, then if you attack with a 180 base power, you deal 180 damage, something many mons have to be in the ~60's of levels to survive..
In a way it's much like Dragon Rage, removing 40 health from a level 0-15 target can often be enough to one shot them, but against a level 50+, it will probably be inferior..

I have a hard time believing that. Some trash-mon with a Starter-only move.

I really dig that Trainers Eye thing. I mean, it's nothing new, but it definitely should stay in the series. Even without grinding "normal" trainers are under-leveled. But those of them you can re-battle after some time (their strength is probably based on your Badge progress) have just the right levels. Some of them prove to actually be a challenge if you don't have the right Poke's (especially Ace Trainers). Me like!
Surfing on a Sharpedo is pure joy! Back in the days of the original Ruby I never had a chance to have one in my team, but now with his double surfing speed it's hard not to make use of his services

Today I have discovered the beauty of Pokemon Global Link and its Pokemiles attractions! There is still hope for finding Dawn Stone before Victory road (my Kirlia cries for evolution and every level I have to block it and it starts to be a little bit annoying).

PROTIP:
You can use Super Secret Training for Stones (possibly unlimited, but unsure...). I wanted a Dawn Stone for my Kirlia, so I googled to get some info on it. When I found that it's available late game I looked for some other ways. I totally forgot about the SST option...
You unlock SST after maxing out you Pokemon in Super Training. It consists of another 12 thematic regimens which are unlocked one after another (not six at the same time like with ST) for instance Fire Stone Cup for getting Fire Stones etc. They are a bit tricky. To get a stone you must complete the regimen in a very short time. For Dawn Stone you need to beat a Gallade Baloon (8th challenge if I remember correctly) in under 50 secs (5600 points but with projectiles that take away 400 points per hit!). At least for me that was the case, cause I've read somewhere that the prizes and times can get random so a Stone is not guaranteed even if you beat it under the said time.
That said it's not that hard if you get the hang of it. It took me 15 minutes to master it. My Gallade is now ready for Mega Evolution
Good luck to you!

Although this is my first Pokemon game, I knew about Super Training and the fact that you can get a Dawn Stone from it's last set of challenges. I have an Pokemon that is even specialised in Super training (my dear Slaking, a great HM slave), although I got a little bored from shooting balls at targets and now I try different methods (Pokemiles and also rematches with a pair of sisters in Sea Mauville).
