Icecrown Citadel Awaits

Icecrown Citadel
Looming over the stark wastes of Northrend, the Icecrown Citadel awaits those who would see the Lich King and his Scourge brought low and the threat they pose wiped from the face of Azeroth. The heroes who venture within will face some of the greatest challenges and horrors yet seen. But before you burst in the front door of the Citadel itself, an alternate means of entry awaits you, with an epic journey into the new five-player dungeon, Icecrown Citadel: The Frozen Halls.

The Frozen Halls
Icecrown Citadel will feature a massive five-player dungeon sprawling across three wings of the citadel's foundation. While the Lich King's attention is focused on the Argent Crusade and the Knights of the Ebon Blade ripping through the front gates, players will be tested as they assist Jaina Proudmoore (Alliance) and Sylvanas Windrunner (Horde) in infiltrating the citadel. Icecrown Citadel will feature a massive five-player dungeon sprawling across three wings of the citadel's foundation. While the Lich King's attention is focused on the Argent Crusade and the Knights of the Ebon Blade ripping through the front gates, players will be tested as they assist Jaina Proudmoore (Alliance) and Sylvanas Windrunner (Horde) in infiltrating the citadel through an alternate entrance.

An epic quest line will present adventurers with the task of weakening Icecrown Citadel's forces, requiring that players defeat the challenges in each dungeon wing before venturing into the next one. Normal and Heroic versions of the dungeon will be accessible to players, although each wing will be considered a separate instance; therefore, on Heroic difficulty, each wing will have its own separate lockout timer. All-new rewards -- including item level 219 (normal) and level 232 (Heroic) loot -- will be offered to those who destroy some of the Lich King's most formidable allies.

The Forge of Souls
Serving as the first wing in this expansive dungeon, the Forge of Souls will quickly put players to the test of carving through the Scourge stronghold into deeper, more treacherous locations. Jaina will command Alliance forces, and Sylvanas will direct Horde forces. The goal is to ruin the twisted engines known as soul grinders found in this portion of the citadel, and then players can advance -- that is, if the Horde and Alliance forces can overcome the foes who confront them.

Bosses

•Bronjahm, the Godfather of Souls: An instrument of reckoning, Bronjahm watches over the engines in the Forge of Souls. He must be killed if the soul grinders are to be destroyed.
•The Devourer of Souls: As the chief operator of the engines found in this wing, the Devourer stands guard over the souls stolen by the Lich King.

Pit of Saron
Accessible only to those who have laid waste to the Forge of Souls' unholy operations, the Pit of Saron will bring Horde and Alliance forces deeper into the Lich King's domain. Players who venture here will immediately be confronted by the lord of this lair, Scourgelord Tyrannus. But defeating him will not be as easy as it seems. Before they can present a threat to Tyrannus, the adventurers, instructed by their leaders, will need to free enslaved allies who have been trapped by the Scourge. Until that happens, Tyrannus will leave all adversaries to his minions, workers of the citadel's mines. Perhaps the challenges here will lend clues as to the whereabouts of the Lich King's private chambers outside of the Frozen Throne, deep within the Halls of Reflection.

Bosses

•Forgemaster Garfrost: A master of Scourge weaponry, the forgemaster hauls stocks of saronite ore and other precious materials to the cold forges where the mechanisms of death are born. With a host of rime weapons and exotic alloys at his disposal, it could get cold in here.
•Krick and Ick: Zombies serve as mindless muscle in the Pit of Saron's mines, stockpiling metals for Forgemaster Garfrost, and Krick -- a devious leper gnome -- supervises the operations from atop Ick, Krick's ghastly means of transportation.
•Scourgelord Tyrannus: Tyrannus is a terrible force who will no doubt demonstrate his powers to those brave enough to enter the Pit of Saron. The scourgelord must die if players hope to make their way into the third and final wing of this dungeon.

Halls of Reflection
With Jaina and Sylvanas leading the way, adventurers who make it as far as these frigid halls will quickly recognize the weapon that lies ahead: Frostmourne, the corruptive, legendary device of the Lich King himself. The Lich King's private chambers are within reach, although they may be the death of anyone who ventures there.

Bosses

•Falric and Marwyn: Captains for Arthas Menethil in life, Scourge commanders for the Lich King in death, Falric and Marwyn will be summoned to the Halls of Reflection for one purpose: destroying all intruders.
•The Lich King: Sylvanas, thirsty for vengeance against the corrupted prince who sentenced her to an existence as an undead monstrosity, and Jaina, eager to find a flicker of Arthas's soul locked somewhere within the Lich King, have brought their hand-picked allies to this final confrontation. Arthas's true power may only now be discovered. Is there any hope in this mission, or does only death await?

Ehm. There are already plenty of WoW threads, isn't it better if there is 1 general? I think there is already one made by yourself about WotLK

About the patch - I don't like how blizz are changing the lore, Arthas was never killed right?

But this is a very important annouchment. Its the last patch in Wrath of the Lich King. And I will update it with other 3.3 information. Also there is no official WoW thread.

Where does it say that Arthas was killed?
Jaina had a relationship with Arthas and was very much in love with him. When you play Warcraft 3 they are a couple and sleep in the same tent
Jaina hopes to find a last fragment of humanity within Arthas. I am afraid that Lady Jaina Proudmoore will die here though. Or become the Lich Queen (it has been hinted).

However there was one major retcon. Ner'zhul and Arthas didnt actually merge (and the Lich King went into some sort of hibernation). They became one brieflybut Arthas threw out Ner'zhul from the Lich King in his mindscape.

Either way, Arthas threw out the Ner'zhul from the Lich King. The Lich King is only Arthas and no fragments of Ner'zhul within the Lich King is left (except that Arthas got his memories and power).

If there isn't one you should make one instead of pushing other game related threads off the first page. For now this is all about one specific patch. people could easily post patch information in a regular wow thread.

Blizzard seems to be rushing with the patches to get Cataclysm released. One expansion a year they say. They will cap WoW at level 100. So after Cataclysm there would be 3 expansions left.
Then their new MMO will probably come.

Here are the early PTR patch notes. I will transfer my character to the test server and report whats in store.

The latest test realm patch notes can always be found at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patchnotes/test-realm-patchnotes.html

The latest patch notes can always be found at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patchnotes/

General
Icecrown Citadel

•The Forge of Souls, the first wing of the 5-player dungeon, is currently available for testing.
•Additional Icecrown Citadel dungeon and raid content will be made available in future test builds.
•Dazed: Creatures attacking a player from behind can no longer cause players level 1-5 to be dazed, and have a reduced chance to cause players level 6-10 to be dazed.
•Copied Test Realm characters will no longer be copied with their achievement history in order to better facilitate the character copy process.

Classes: General

•Default Equipment: Starting weapons are now more uniform. Rogues now start with a pair of daggers equipped. All other classes except shamans start with a 2-handed weapon equipped and the required skill already known. Shamans start with a 1-handed weapon and a shield, as they benefit more from the shield than they would from a 2-handed weapon.
•Glancing Blows: The mage, warlock, and priest classes no longer have an increased chance for their melee attacks to be glancing blows; and the damage penalty due to their glancing blows is the same as for other classes.
•Health and Mana Regeneration: These regeneration rates have been increased by up to 200% for low level characters. As a player's level increases, the regeneration rates gradually reduce, returning to normal rates at level 15.
•Spell Mana Costs: These costs have been reduced for almost all lower level spell ranks. In general, if a spell decreased in cost with a higher level rank in patch 3.2.0, that spell now has the decreased cost at all ranks. In addition, spells learned before level 20 with reduced cast times and/or durations have even further reduced mana costs, proportionate to their reduction in cast time or damage.

Races: General

•Racial Attribute Bonuses: These bonuses have been recalibrated to even out the amount of starting health on the various races. All races start with a standardized level of stamina, except for orcs, dwarves, and tauren who now start with 1 extra point of stamina. For each class, bonuses and penalties to all attributes have been adjusted so that each race has an equal attribute total.

Death Knight

•Rune of the Stoneskin Gargoyle: There is now a 1-handed version of this rune in addition to the current 2-handed rune.

Unholy

•Night of the Dead: Now reduces the damage your pet takes from area-of-effect damage by 45/90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.

Druid
Pets

•Avoidance (passive): Now reduces the damage your pets take from area-of-effect damage by 90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.

Hunter

•Misdirection: Redesigned. Instead of having finite charges, it now begins a 4-second timer when the hunter using Misdirection performs a threat-generating attack, during which all threat generated by the hunter goes to the friendly target. In addition, multiple hunters can now misdirect threat to the same friendly target simultaneously.
Beast Mastery

•Intimidation: If the hunter's pet is in melee range of its target, the stun from Intimidation will now be applied immediately instead of on the pet's next swing or attack.
Pets

•Avoidance: Now reduces the damage your pet takes from area-of-effect damage by 30/60/90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.

Mage
Arcane

•Arcane Empowerment: This talent now also grants 1/2/3% increased damage done by the mage's party or raid for 10 seconds after the mage gets a critical strike with Arcane Explosion, Arcane Missiles, Arcane Barrage, or Arcane Blast. This effect is exclusive with Ferocious Inspiration and Sanctified Retribution.
Pets

•Avoidance (passive): Now reduces the damage your pets take from area-of-effect damage by 90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.

Priest
Pet

•Avoidance (passive): Now reduces the damage your pet takes from area-of-effect damage by 90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.

Rogue

•Dual Wield: Rogues now know this ability upon logging into the game at level 1.
•Stealth: This ability no longer has multiple ranks. While active, the single rank of this ability (available at level 1) allows rogues to move at 70% movement speed.
•Vanish: For the first second after this ability is used, neither Vanish nor Stealth can be broken by taking damage or being the victim of a hostile spell or ability.

Shaman

•Fire Nova Totem: This totem has been replaced with a new spell, Fire Nova, which is available at the same ranks as the old Fire Nova Totem. Existing characters will automatically learn this new spell in place of the totem. With a Fire Totem active, shamans will be able to use Fire Nova (fire magic) to emit the same area-of-effect damage as the old Fire Nova Totem from the active Fire Totem, not consuming the totem in the process. Fire Nova will activate a 1.5-second global cooldown when used and has a 10-second spell cooldown. The caster must be within 30 yards of the totem to use this ability, but does not need to be within line of sight of the totem.
Elemental Combat

•Improved Fire Nova Totem: Renamed Improved Fire Nova. This talent now provides an additional 10/20% damage to the spell and reduces the cooldown by 2/4 seconds.

Warlock
Pets

•Avoidance (passive): Now reduces the damage your pets take from area-of-effect damage by 90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.
•Summon Imp: This ability is now available from the trainer for level 1 warlocks and no longer requires a quest to learn.

Warrior

•Victory Rush: This ability is now trainable at level 6.
Protection

•Damage Shield: This ability will no longer trigger any chance-on-hit effects from the warrior or the opponent it damages.

User Interface
Quest Tracking Feature

•This system is currently under development and is not fully functional.
Looking For Group System

•This feature is undergoing several improvements and is not available for testing at this time.
•For additional notes on Lua and XML changes please visit the UI & Macros forum.

Graphics

•A new feature has been added to the D3D graphics engine to improve texture management (particularly for Windows XP users). This is currently enabled by default on the public test realms. For more information please visit our Test Realm forum.

Professions
Enchanting

•Black Magic: This enchantment now sometimes increases haste rating for the caster rather than inflicting the caster's target with a damage-over-time effect. It is also now triggered by landing any harmful spell rather than inflicting damage with a spell.

Glyphs
Death Knight

•Glyph of Icy Touch: Instead of granting additional runic power, this glyph now causes Frost Fever to deal 20% additional damage.
Shaman

•Glyph of Fire Nova Totem: Renamed Glyph of Fire Nova. This glyph now reduces the cooldown of Fire Nova by 3 seconds.

Bug Fixes
Druid

•Rejuvenation: Rank 15 of this spell was providing a 15-second duration. It has been correctly reduced to 12 seconds.
Mage

•Flame Strike: Some ranks of this spell had an incorrect cast time of 3 seconds. All ranks now share a 2-second cast time.

And here is a big preview on Icecrown etc

UNIQUE TOTEMS FOR ALL SHAMAN RACES
Orcs and Trolls will no longer get Tauren totems and the Cataclysm Dwarf totems have already been added.

Weekly Raid Quests
New daily (most likely Weekly) raid quests have been added to the game! They currently reward you with Emblem of Frost x 10.
Here is an example of a new Icecrown Citadel boss;

[83] Lord Marrowgar Must Die!
Description
Lord Marrowgar is the guardian of the Frozen Throne within the Spire Chamber. Pieced together by the Lich King from the bones of a thousand vanquished adventurers, Marrowgar wields the power of the throne itself.

Without the destruction of this bone wraith, there is no hope of taking Icecrown Citadel.

The Council of Six has decreed that Lord Marrowgar must die!

Or for old WotLK raid bosses.

[83] Anub'Rekhan Must Die!
Description

Anub'Rekhan, once-mighty Spider Lord of the nerubian empire, has been taken by the Lich King and corrupted into a state of undeath.

Now a crypt lord, he sits in his parlor in the Arachnid Quarter of Naxxramas, spinning strategies for Kel'Thuzad.

The Council of Six has decreed that Anub'Rekhan must die!

NEW LEGENDARY WEAPON
SHADOWMOURNE

Also a blade called Quel'delar is refrenced a lot. You need to go the Sunwell etc to get it so it seems like a powerful weapon.

Stay tuned. Soon the fate of the Lich King and the Scourge will be revealed. Characters like Jaina Proudmoore might die

Place Light's Vengeance and Runeforged Saronite in Highlord Mograine's runeforge in Icecrown Citadel.

It is against my judgment that I present you this errand, <race>, as it will likely end in your undoing.

Ignore my counsel and embark on this endeavor, and I shall provide you with the necessary knowledge and resources to see it through. Its success shall depend on your fortitude being greater than that endowed to most mortals.

Recover Light's Vengeance, Arthas' discarded hammer. Combined with saronite, it will provide the foundation for our work.

CAIRNE BLOODHOOF IS GOING TO DIE
Low level quest changes reflects storyline progression.

[10] Journey into Thunder Bluff
Description

You will now be revered within our great city. Any <race> worthy of completing the Rites of the Earthmother earns that honor.

Also Garrosh Hellscream has replaced Thrall as the new leader of the Horde.

Garrosh's Autograph
Description

They say that Garrosh Hellscream is one of the greatest heroes in the Horde! When I grow up, I want to be a hero of the Horde too!

Do you know Garrosh, <name>? Could you do me a favor, please? Could you get his autograph for me? I dunno how to ask him, and he probably wouldn't listen to someone like me... but you! You're an adventurer, like him! I bet he'd give you his autograph easy!

Not to mention that the Abomination guards in the Undercity have been replaced by Kor'kron Overseers. They are keeping an eye on the Forsaken. The Kor'kron are the Warchiefs elite soldiers.

Dark Ranger Clea has also appeared in the Undercity has an introduction for Undead Hunters.

I wouldnt care if Baklava created WAR threads. Create any thread you want. If I dont care then I wont read them.
Obviously you care as you seem to visit this thread a lot to see whats in store of the future of the lore in the Warcraft universe etc.

Anyway, this is off-topic.

Varimthas has been replaced by Bragor Bloodfist for high level players. For high level players, the Orcs have sort of occupied the Undercity through phasing. They are keeping an eye on the Forsaken.

More Icecrown Quests!
Apparently, we might use Frostmourne against the Lich King.

[80] Escaping the Wrath of the Lich King
Description

Frostmourne! It is within our sight and Arthas is nowhere to be found. Quickly, hero!

[80] Inside the Frozen Citadel
Description

<class>! Come close quickly, I must have a word!

My queen, the Lady Sylvanas Windrunner, has uncovered a hole in the defenses of Icecrown Citadel into a place she referred to as "The Forge of Souls." She sent word before she left for me to find fierce fighters to send her way. I think you'll due.

Go to her within the entrance to the forge, <class>.

[80] The Path to the Citadel
Description

They've put our captured soldiers to work in the quarry. Kill their captors and set them free, <class>, and do it quickly. We will need their aid when we confront Scourgelord Tyrannus.

And for Alliance.

[80] Inside the Frozen Citadel
Description

<class>! Come close quickly, I must have a word!

My patron, the Lady Jaina Proudmoore, has uncovered a hole in the defenses of Icecrown Citadel into a place she referred to as "The Forge of Souls." She sent word before she left for me to find any help that I could... and, well, I was hoping that might be you.

Please, find her there as soon as she can.

Echoes of Tortured Souls
Description
I'm glad we have someone capable to aid us in this. Delving into the Citadel with so few is risky at best, but opportunities like this are too rare to pass up.

I'm awaiting the arrival of champions from the Coliseum, but if your reputation holds true, you should be more than equipped to fight through the forge yourself. Clear the way to the far side and secure the passage to the Pit of Saron. We will need to holt it to move our men further into the Citadel.

Be quick about it, <name>. Time is short.

Also the Sunwell is restored and repopulated by the Blood Elves!
So they will probably remove the raid and the 5-man.

[80] Journey To The Sunwell
Description

Take Quel'Delar to the Sunwell as quickly as possible, <name>. Trust in Uther's words when he says that you will not always be able to control the blade while it is subject to the evil of the Lich King's influence. You must travel to the Isle of Quel'Danas, and there, seek entry to the Sunwell itself, where you can cleanse the sword.

The guardians of the Sunwell will not simply allow you to walk in, so you must find Halduron Brightwing, who will be inspecting the guards there.

Can't you see no one cares? I read that bs at the official site an hour ago. Big deal, a big metal plated glacier full of walking corpses. Pure awesomeness!

Okay, so I transfered my character to (will make a premade Troll shaman to see the new totems and will transfer my low level shaman for Orc ones).

Also stop saying Blizzard kills lore when you have no idea whats going on in 3.3 and in WoW. You dont know anything.

The Undercity
Follwing the Wrathgate event, the Orcs (like they should have from the begining) have begun to almost occupy the Forsaken capital city "The Undercity".
Here are some of the first screenshots I took on the test server.
If you dont know what the battle at the Wrathgate is then it was basically the first push into Icecrown. The Alliance and the Horde fought united against the Scourge when suddenly a band of Forsaken betrayers interupted the battle and killed pretty much everyone. The Lich King was weakened by the Forsakens Blight and retreated into his Citadel.

Following the Wrathgate, the Alliance accussed the Horde for betrayal. A new war between the Alliance and the Horde was about to emerge. The Undercity had been taken over by the Forsaken betrayers. Forsaken refugees could be found all over Orgrimmar were all shops etc were closed and the citizens demonstrated.

The matser mind between the attack was the Dreadlord Varimthas himself. He had betrayed Sylvanas and attempted to summon a second avatar of Sargeras. While the Alliance pushed through the sewer entrance in the city, the Horde reclaimed parts of the Undercity and with Thralls elemental powers they managed to reach the Royal Chamber. There Varimthas was summoning.
But just when Varimthas was defeated for good, the Alliance forces led by Varian Wrynn and Jaina Proudmoore came in with Knights of Stormwind. Conflict erupted and Jaina mass teleported the Alliance forces back to Stormwind. Jaina had a few words with Thrall before she left.

The Alliance champion Bolvar Fordragon had died during the Wrathgate. He was a close friend of Varian Wrynn and led the humans of Stormwind when Varian was missing in pre-wotlk.

The Horde does not want the Wrathgate to be repeated so therefor, Horde forces has been sent to the Undercity.
In Cataclysm, Sylvanas attacks Gilneas too as the Horde wants a harbor there. In Cataclysm, the Horde has a full scale war on the Alliance and vice versa. As the world changes due to storyline progression, the Horde cuts down a large part of Ashenvale forest and reinforces isolated bases like Zoram'gar with iron.
The Night Elves will do anything to stop the Horde from invading northern Kalimdor. Amongst the Cataclysm screenshots we can see the Horde razing Night Elf villages and the Night Elf Warships in action.

Thrall is still Warchief. For now.

The Pit of Saron
The Pit of Saron is located hidden in some of the mountains surroadning the Citadel. The Pit of Saron is the biggest production site of Saronite Ore. The ore that both the Scourge and (recently) the Alliance are using. Saronite Ore is the petrifed blood of the Old God Yogg-Saron.
This was VERY BUGGED. Mobs didnt drop any loot and we disconnected every 5 minutes. We only managed to kill one boss because the stability sucked.
Gargoyles can be seen carrying Saronite ore as well as several Horde slaves mining Saronite. Your task is to free the slaves. I guess there will be some quest for this in the future. Blizzard needs to fix this instance a lot!

Entrance to the three wings (Forge of Souls, Halls of Reflection and Pit of Saron)

Last boss. She has a rider.

Champions from 3.2: Call of the Crusade.

Second boss. We killed him. The fight is easy. You just avoid the Saronite blocks that he throws on you.

Second boss (you can choose where to go, its a very open instance)

Either way, it seems to be very enjoyable
The size is perfect. I would expect a normal-geared group to do it in around 30 minutes - max.

Argent Tournament
It could expanded with some watch towers.

Entrance to the raid.
