no, i'm talking especially with that creature....sometimes i can exagerate a little.
but I have softly noticed you tired, you make more quickly your stuff
don't give pressure to yourself with the town...keep focus on the 21 creatures before all.

you can take a break, one entire week even

did you have a clear idea of your town before beginning?

I knew exactly what I wanted to do before beginning, which roles should have each creature and how they would work with each other, but in your case, it appears you considered most creatures individually, and not as a part of a whole.

I noticed the same things when I was building deathmatch maps for FPS, many professional maps where built as several little maps linked together as if developpers couldn't see the global picture, but just the various parts of it as if they were separated entities.

factions in H5 kinda give that impression too.

Hey guys,

I've been following this mod, and I'm really impressed. I hope no one is offended by this question, but I was wondering if there is a way for me to extract these creatures individually from the .pak file so I can use them in the game without replacing Fortress. The dwarves are one of my favorite factions.

No i didn't. The fact is that i knew nothing about modding h5 in the beginning. So instead of adding new creatures, which was impossible to me, i started to change creatures of my least liked faction. Frostlings are just the guys from the non-winged imps tutorial. They were my first unit i ever made. Soon i started to change other creatures without actually any idea for them, i just wanted to learn something. I said to myself, that i will make other faction as soon as i'll be able (but i forgot about this). This one was just kind of my training ground. I posted here to get some answers to my problems i just could't solve (like mammoth, but i still don't know), and since nobody answered, i left crying. I came back later with some new power, making the creatures better than before, but still with no idea. So i started to think of some silly stories and wrote them here, but they will never actually fit a random town. That's why i still make new creatures all the time, but it would be easier to just start over, yet i don't want to do that alone

well, starting over... it's not like you should scrap everything you've already done. but it's hard to find a direction if you don't have a global idea for your faction, how are they supposed to work?

I don't actually know. I was trying with those voodoo and treasuries themes, but they are not really fitting for the creatures. Anyway i only made creatures for this town, which is not much for me now.

a lot of other units have been made. if you want an ice theme faction, you might use my ice dragon for example (though, it might be hard finding abilities for it)

Well frankly even WITHOUT the ice demon, I feel like you have done some great great great things here. You have a pretty solid line-up, although I think that the 2b, and 5 tier units in general could be a bit more homogeneous, you have made quite a few unique awesome creatures, particularily your tier 3, 4, and the new tier 6. The tier 2 and 7 are pretty good, but given what I've seen you do, ESPECIALLY with the snow ape and frigged ghoul (although not AS much the upgrades) I'm really impressed. I think you have creature making down to a fine art.

I don't think this town needs NEW creatures, except POSSIBLY the ice demon because it definitely fits the theme and looks good, but its not NEEDED. I do think the town could use a bit of uniformity, but I think you can achieve this by bringing back the old tier 6, and giving it a mask more like the tier 1b and making the snow ape your tier 5 solving that issue all together. Or keep the snow ape at tier 6 and make the old tier 6 tier 5 and replace the tier 5. I think the treasurer fits the theme fine, and the dark ape looks really cool.

What I would be really interested in seeing though, and I think that this would be beneficial to you as an always improving modder, is figuring out how to mod other things, such as adding heroes, possibly modifying the mechanics of the racial ability, or even changing the town screen. (for the record I think a good start would be replacing the lava with a hole so that it fits the snow and darkness theme you have going.) That way when (or if I guess) you do decide to start a new project you'll at least have SOME experience in fully integrating a new town.

I was trying to think of some ideas, but since it's not my town originally, it's not easy.

I would probably keep level 1 and 7 as they are.

I see nothing really wrong with level 2, but they are kinda generic units, and they doesn't bring much to the rest of the army. I'm especially concerned about the wintry hunter. is drain life really worth it for a level 2 unit? I guess it would be good to have for creeping. for a serious fight, I fear they would be a poor choice.

level 3 are pretty good, mostly because they look unique.
I would consider weakening aura for the shooting upgrade to set it apart from the assassin. though, since they are shooter, it might not be immensely useful.

I think I would have demons level 4 and birds level 5.

I'm not sure about demons, but they could be something like the main striking force. actually, they may have the strength of normal level 4, and the point of the horde building would be to give you a big advantage, but it would be very expensive to build?
in the game, it seems the point of horde buildings is to balance creatures that are too weak for their tier (except nightmares, who, individually, don't seem worse than unicorn)


for the level 5, I was thinking, maybe giving hit and run to the thunderbird, but reducing its speed.
you might remove unlimited retaliations from the cave roc, because it is similar to the battle griffin and the treasurector also already has unlimited retaliation. but I would keep the defensive orientation.

lv 1 : imm. to cold, fear
lv 1a : imm. to cold, shooter, no range penalty, mana drain, sacrifice goblins, caster (slow, animate dead)
lv 1b : imm. to cold, fear, invisibility

lv 3 : shooter, no melee penalty
lv 3a : fast attack, entangling roots, searing aura, weakening aura (can it actually trap several stacks at once with 6 headed attack?)
lv 3b : shooter, no melee penalty, poison, acid blood (I'm not sure how useful it will be, I think enemies shooters might cause some unwanted accidents)

lv 5 : flyer, fast attack
lv 5a : flyer, fast attack, stormstrike, strike and return
lv 5b : flyer, fast attack, agility, paw strike

lv 6 : imm. to cold, enraged
lv 6a : imm. to cold, enraged, unlimited retaliations, taunt, frenzy
lv 6b : imm. to cold, enraged, brutality, crushing blow, ride by attack

lv 7 : undead, imm. to cold, lizard bite
lv 7a : undead, imm. to cold, lizard bite, presence of the commander, aura of bravery (or horror of the death?)
lv 7b : undead, imm. to cold, lizard bite, summon others

ok, I found an idea for level 2 :

lv 2 : undead, scavenger
lv 2a : undead, scavenger, life drain
lv 2b : undead, scavenger, acid blood
now, they can be raised, which is probably a nice improvement

lv 4 (ice demons) : imm. to cold, undead, freezing attack (wound with ice element)
lv 4a : imm. to cold, undead, freezing attack, ice shield (modded magma shield)
lv 4b : imm. to cold, undead, freezing attack, aura of cold vulnerability

Hey,trashid,maybe you can use the new skeleton for your Wendigo/Avatar/Raider.
Here there is an experiment with the pitlord in Angel/Archangel/Seraph skeleton.It says it works perfectly,exept for the sword,so experiment with it and you can give some better swords,besides,your town needs another flyer.Tier 7 seemed weak to me so at least they must fly.

or teleport. but they aren't weak. the defense is quite low, but the attack is very high. they can fight a black dragon and beat it.

of course that works but nobody has seen except him.
any skeletons can have any models.

but before to say it's cool some tests have to be realized especially
to know if none of movement or posture is really too weird to be acceptable.
the only true thing the guy has provided is a too small picture
to be able to know a little bit.

until now, all the creatures use their true model, so none of them use another one.
why? well about me because that is not a good idea caused by too number of weird side-effect.

maybe a chance can give to a particular creature to sucess with a particular model
but go to know which one.

in short, I prefer the tier7 as they are there.
