The place I started playing at first had HIII, not HII, I guess that was why; I made sure to grab it later on though.
And yeah, it's great so far; I couldn't figure out if I was supposed to grab the two wizarding towns near the start though (Ma'goon and the Mountain Fortress?) because even though the text implied I'm free to use them, they both had garrisons.

Tried LoL and didn't like it too much, for pretty much that reason.

In the spirit of the thread, I am currently playing some HoMM III! Running the AB Dragon Slayer campaign for amusement's sake.
I think lol is too complicated, for me dota is simple and easy to get, there are a few difficult concepts but none of that rune jumbo gumbo and i like the wc3 engine better.
I actually think LoL is a lot less complicated than DotA. The rune thing isn't complicated really it's just to boost your chars stat a bit. But yeah I never was a hardcore DotA fan so the switch was easy for me. For me LoL simply isn't as diehard insane considering the players and microwise as DotA. But hey to each his own.
yeah it's all personal preference. Each has it's place in the world.

It's good to be bad. 
Ally of Dragons, Ally of Ogres, Dwarfbane, Carry forces over: 28 blackies, 65 power liches, 700 or so skeletons and 60 vampire lords.
And I still lazed at most of the maps. I know I could have finished the last map under one month easily if I replayed it since I put one barb army on defense to repel the landings but it turned out practically useless, the enemy was too slow on the swamp Could have used that at the offense too.
Carry over forces makes for five heroes who can easily wipe the map fast. Just make sure the vamps are carried by a knight. Blackies divided to three and barbs or warlocks. I use barbs because you don't have to go spell hunting. The liches and skeletons are on a necromancer for obvious reasons. Ridiculous skill difference in the last fight but it's no problem when you've got that much overpowering forces. Roland'll run out of spellpoints with resurrection and summon air elementals rather fast. If you wanna brag take Archibald with armageddon. I used my best barb, Jacklyn, a8,d10,sp7,k1, to even the skill difference on battle. Yeah, not so high level, that was with all arties.
Disruption ray on titans, bloodlust on vamp lords, they take out the titans, others take care of the rest. Instead of skels used phonixes from sorceress. 6 I think. The breath is nice when the air elementals start coming.

I'm so envious of you. I'd love to play that game again, or at least HOMM3. I still have two weeks more of projects and studying to do, so I'll try to get in some precious play time over the break.
Oh, and that final Good campaign scenario drove me nuts the last time I played it. My carry-overs were spread too thin covering all sides, and my enemies had Dimension Door while I didn't.

I wouldn't really have time either.
I just happened to get sick so I used it as an excuse not to study.
Trick is to rush them BEFORE they get dimension door.

Ordered New Vegas a few days ago... should be playing that soon.
With all the community bugfixes being released it should be pretty playable.
Considering that I've been installing new mods for Oblivion since 2006 and still playing it this might turn out to be quite the gaming investment.

I've heard new vegas is actually worth something. Unlike Fallout 3.
But I still can't get over the fact that you are supposed to be living in a "rather" realistic world and a man does not die when you shoot him in the head with a rocket launcher.
But poking him in the leg with a toothbrush will kill him.

Toothbrush?
In any case, both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are very lengthy RPGs, so it just wouldn't make sense for people to die Counterstrike quickly. I've never found the amount it takes to kill somebody to break my sense of immersion. And, to be fair, if you shoot most normal humans with a rocket launcher, they are pretty dead.
Both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are amazing games and well worth getting if you are into anything postapocalyptic. I think you'll find it well worth the investment, Adrius.
If you got it for PC, let me know and I can direct you to a couple mods that make the game way more enjoyable without modifying items or anything like that in any way.

@Joonas: Hmm yeah... though I bet there's a whole lotta balance/realism mods out there. Been hanging out at the Newvegasnexus for the past few days, looking for stuff that I'll get later.
This one impresses me the most so far. Really gives the weapons more "weight".
Gonna get me some mod that makes VATS mode less imba too, temporal invulnerability fricking sucks... major game flaw. Makes playing in FPS mode feel really underpowered.
In fact I don't even see the need for the VATS mode, it's cool at first but later it just feels like it slows down the game. It's like they had to make some sorta compromize with the Fallout veterans by using some kinda pseudo-turn-based system, so they don't hate Bethesda all too much (which they do anyway).
The Hardcore mode that's included attracts me very much though. I used a ton of mods for Oblivion to achieve pretty much the same effect as that.

I don't see how realistic fights would make less sense in a lenghty RPG. For me they would just make it better. I like not feeling like god damn Ares vs. Zeus everytime I try to kill a rat.

LOL at the weapons sounds. The improved bolt action rifle sounds like a god damn cannon.
This antimaterial rifle sound is fricking awesome though. I WANT!

Well when you reach higher levels in the game most enemies die from one shot in the head, if you have high guns skills that is.
Edit: that blood enhanced mod by the way is just awesome (if you into that kind of stuff...)

Yeah, last time I checked the damage from a gunshot to the head didn't depend on the person pressing the trigger.
I would love a realistic RPG like fallout, STALKER was pretty good in that regard but it had way too little to actually do and in the end it went to the "shoot three magasines to kill one guy" making it break the thing that made it so good.

I'm gonna play Hardcore from the start...
Play with the Recharger Pistol so I can build up a nice quantity of energy ammo...
Then convert it all into Microfusion Cells and go own the world with the Gauss Rifle.
That's the plan at least

Also gonna get Fellout, makes the world look much better.

Well true that, I'm kinda irritated myself that a single headshot wont kill a super mutant for example. But I'm sure there are mods for that, to tired to look though. And besides the game would be way to easy in that case considering how easy it is to sneak-kill in that game.

But then you'd also die from a few gunshots. That's what makes it all the more exciting. You can't go CHARGE!
You have to actually think before you attack. Have a plan of somekind.
Yeah, I'm a rogue spear kid. That game is the pinnacle of tactical shooters. You get to plan the attack up to four different teams before striking. Everything from gear, guys to backup plans.
Oh and hidden and dangerous 1&2. Those rule. You get to build your own team to execute the missions in the campaign and if someone dies, he dies. No miraculous heath pack revivals. You pay for your mistakes or the enemy's smarts. Actually finished the first one solo with a sniper. God damn that was a breathtaking journey.
Hmmm, I should so get them again, they're free to public now. Everyone should take a look to see if they've got what it takes to lead a commando team or just himself in a series of daunting missions behind the enemy lines in WW2. It's glorious game.

@Adrius-Word of advice, Energy Weapons are piss-awful for the most part in New Vegas, the Plasma Rifle and Laser Rifle in particular are huge jokes. The Gauss Rifle, unique Gauss Rifle, maybe the Multiplas Rifle, and Plasma Caster are the only weapons really worth using. Make sure you beeline for the unique gauss rifle ASAP, and a warning; if you have Wild Wasteland on it's replaced by an alien blaster.
You'll likely be hard-pressed to survive with the recharger weapons, as the first time you get access to them will likely be Freeside. By far the best weapon to survive the early game, regardless of your skill choices, is the Cowboy Repeater, and you'll get one of those real early on. I'd recommend sticking with that and making a run for the unique gauss rifle as soon as you get a chance; you can try the Laser Rifle and Plasma Rifle if you want to, but they are simply godawful. Guns and Unarmed are the kings of New Vegas, Explosives and Energy Weapons are an absolute joke in comparison.

I bet it'll be more fun than getting the Hunting Rifle in Fallout 3 and then being able to slaughter everyone with it for the entire game.
From what I've read most people just go Sniper build and get 100% critical chance, boring imo.
I like a bit of a challenge, and I'm attracted to things that other people call "weak" and "underpowered", but I'll boost my gun skill a bit in the early game to access a few perks (like the fast reloader perk, must be awesome as hell for the gauss rifle) so I can be a bit versatile anyway.
I won't speed-run for the YCS/186 cuz I don't want to know where it is, I want to just explore. Makes finding it so much more rewarding.
Besides, the Laser RCW is a tommy gun that shoots lazors, that alone makes energy weapons more awesome than guns.
EDIT: Oh and I'm gonna focus on explosives as well! I like laying traps
