"Hmm, I thought you were referring to the fortress being ready or something. My mistake. Sometimes magically altered places can only be accessed at certain times or when something or someone gets near. I suppose it is true for this one, but that is what I was asking about." replied Salim who was finishing up with setting up camp. He then turned to Tael and said, "I agree, we do not need unnecessary deaths. Poat can stay here and try to make a campfire...with magic. When we have cleared the fortress of denizens and are searching for various loot, his skills will be more useful to us. I, however, can scout ahead of you all and tell the the locations of the enemies guarding the place. If required, I can also provide a diversion. Seeing as Domerth seems to know more about this place, I say that he should call the shots."

- Only the specific properties of these. Take this- He handed Salim a pearchament with a map.- I made a copy last night. the paper is enchanted and should show any hostile beings. Or that is the mage that sold me said so. let's hope that he won't ripped me off. If all of you are ready then, lets go in.

Tael looked at the map and frowned, then put it in a pocket. If anything were nearby he would know from the others. He then stepped up toward the castle.

Osseric had been preoccupied with his cargo while the others made camp. It had been rattling to much to Osseric's liking during the trip today. So he ordered one of his coachmen to search what was making the noise.
After some fussing with several crates the undead being picked up a barrel and placed it near Osseric's feet. The coachman moved one of the metal hoops, it was clearly loose. Osseric gave the coachmen the command to repair the barrel and look over the rest of the cargo.
With his two archers and soldiers in tow, Osseric joined the rest of the band.
"I am ready...when you are."

"Hey!" said Salim irritably as Tael took the map that Domerth gave him. "Damn elf..."
Salim went on ahead, be careful not to be detected. He saw some golems around the fortress, but they didn't look all too active. He soon returned back to the camp and said, "Domerth, there are only about 5 golems as far as I could see, though it is possible that some are either concealed or ready to come out from the ruin. I suggest that you send someone, preferably me, to attract their attention and chase me, meanwhile, some of you all will lie in wait for them and then attack them as I come to you all. The rest of you will then attack them from the back, thus allowing us an easy victory. Then we can proceed onwards to the fortress. What do you say?"

- Hmm... that could work as a distraction. just remember, aim for the head, that's where's the magic source is that's keeping the golem active. Undead too if i recall correctly. Send them in then.

Osseric summoned his staff into his hand, his fingers curving perfectly around the malachite vertebrea. Again the howling wind and the black smoke came from his opened mouth as his eyes rolled back into their sockets.
The undead stirred slightly and even looked somewhat more lively.
In unison they spoke in Osseric's far of voice: "Direct me."

"I'd may as well go too." replied Salim. "I have instinctual intuition, something your minions do not posses. However, should you wish for me to stay, then I suppose I can do that as well. Whatever you wish, Domerth. After all, technically you are my employer."

- Tell your minions to dispose the first golems necromancer. they're guarding the entrance, which is locked, and only my wraithblade can open it. Then, Salim can scout ahead and look for the vault. You'll recognize it by the large door with a lock you'll see in a few minutes. Me and Tael will go to the chamber where the defence mechanism is held. As soon as you find the vault, get back to the entrance. There shouldn't be much of fighting for you, because all the defences will be concentrated on us. if you encounter any golems, remember- hit in the head. Though I don't think that applies to any of the creatures who might have settled in here.

Osseric's minions strode towards the gate. Two statues stood motionless at each side of the entrance. Osseric expected these to be the golems, as he detected some remenant of magic lingering on them. No doubt they would radiate far more energy would they be activated, but that was not that case yet.
Assuming that the golems indeed reacted to living creatures, his undead minions would not activate these creatures. As his minions drew closer, Osseric noticed a small shard embedded into the heads of the golems. That shard was the scource of magic, as it seemed to seep magic.
The undead soldiers positioned themselves next to the golems, without setting the things off. The archers stood somewhat away from them. The archers picked an arrow and aimed them for the shard. Osseric's possesed face took some signs of strain as he had to time this exactly synchronous.
The soldiers leveled their swords above the golems necks. Osseric had the arrows unleashed and as the arrows struck the shards, he had the swords brought down. The statues crumbled and the source of magic quickly drained away into the Aether.
The minions stood there for a slight moment doing nothing, before a large portcullis came crashing down. The massive metal rack effectively sealed the entrance.
Osseric withdrew from his minions and the lumbered back to his side.
"I hope you...expected this."

- Yes, that was expected. now... for the lock.- Domerth looked around. there it was, left to the door. a round emblem with a hole in it. the circle was decorated with ornate runes of unknown origin. Magitara's scholars tried to decipher these for ages. Domerth approached the emblem and drew out the blade. it was glowing brighter than usual.
- It seems that a piece of Lycan Fury is sealed within the vault. look how's my blade reacting to it's presence.- He placed the wraithblade into the lock and turned it two times. the circle with runes started turning with the arcane symbols glowing with silvery light. Some gears were heard to be moving, and the large bars that sealed the entrance were slowly lifted. It seemed that the higher they go, the more ethereal they turn, until they disappeared. the entrance doors then opened by themselves.
- The invitation was given. Let's go inside.

"Excellent!" said Poat as he rubbed his hands greedily.
Salim then stopped him and said, "No, Poat. You got some fire to tend to. Now go and make some fire so I can cook up something."
Grumbling, Poat went back to the campsite.
Salim then turned to Domerth and said, "So we just walk in and raid the place? There is an awful lot of magic about this place. I can smell it. Perhaps the place won't try to kill us when we walk in, but I am sure that some of their artifacts may overrule some of us, seeing as they were probably meant for those with either your sword, or those with a deep understanding of magic. Thus I shall not allow Poat to go in. He may find something a bit too strong for him and it could do something bad to him. At least I can sense the magical power of the place, given my heritage and instinct. I am sure the rest of you will be fine though."

- Indeed, Poat should better stay in the camp. A few last instructions for you Poat. If three or four travelers stop by here, be sure to treat them nicely. three of them will be riding Karayan's kin. You wouldn't want to upset, the queen, because one of her champions has a really... how do I put it... short temper. very short temper.
He then answered to Tael.

"Hmmm...I was going to suggest that some of Osseric's minions should stay behind to guard the camp, but if they see that he is a Necromancer..." began Salim, "Nevermind, it is his decision. Anyways, Poat, prepare some food. Make some hearty soup and heat the bread, and if Domerth's people do come, we want to treat them with the best food, so add some of my spices. Yes, the one I almost killed you over, and I swear, use more than an ounce of it then I shall slice your hand off and stuff it down your throat! Do I make myself clear?"
Poat nodded earnestly, knowing how protective Salim was of the rare spices from his home kingdom. He then ran off to the camp.
When Poat was out of sight, Salim chuckled a little bit and said, "So shall we enter this ruin, my friends?"

Salim sniffed the air while inside the fortress. He smelt a very rich and peculiar smell: magic.Salim grinned. Magic it seemed, was heavier within these darkened walls than he had first thought. He walked beside Domerth and said, "Is there some lighting system that the builders of these fortresses had? I can imagine that with all this magic in here, they would have orbs of light shimmering all over the place, though of course it may have to be activated by someone such as yourself."
