haha I know, it sounds stupid, but I have designed images for them all and actually they look more serious than they sound. I couldn't think of any better names And I made the theme Gothic and kinda Halloween-like.
Out of your creatures, I especially like the Werewolf and Crows, their looks, abilities etc. And the Champion unit SLIGHTLY resembles Warcraft Night-Elves, in a good way, of course. A bit like a Faun-Night Elf cross.

Quote: I've made small creature tier 7/Champion units before, but in the context of what has been revealed so far for H6, I guess it would've been pretty original.
I agree with you.Someone hasen't to be big to be tough.A satanic goatmage like in the pic would perfectly fit as tier 7.
Based on bible,Satan had human size but,as we know, ruled over hell, and had much bigger demons on command,so I suggest an Elite Tier Moon Lord renamed to Rift Spawn that can be got in a special way.Rift spawn has blue eyes.
Tier 7:
Shadow Lord:
Apparence:Looks like a Satyr with the head of the Goat Lord Picture you posted.Has glowing, purple eyes.
Attack:Stares at the enemy to kill him
Abilites:Small creature,Caster,Death Stare,Teleport Move(Same as Devils from H3-5).
Rift Master:
Apparence:Looks like the Goat Lord from the picture. His lower part of the robe is surrounded by a deep black mist and his eyes glow strongly in Dark Blue. His hands are icy white with long, black nails and between the palms and fingers deep blue/purple electric charges are visible.
Attack(Melee):Stares at the enemy to kill him)
Attack(Ranged): Points a finger to the target and drains his soul.
Skills:Small Creature,Ranged,Caster,Death Stare,Frightful Presence,Teleport Move,Rift Master(Passive ability:Spawns a stack of 1 Rift Spawn at the place where he kills his enemies);Rift Storm(Casts a black storm with dark blue/purple lightning 2x2 on a place he chooses),Drain Soul(Passive Ability,on ranged attacks, for every 1 Core enemy killed regains 1 hp,for every 6 Elite enemies killed gets 1 bonus atk.If kills 18 enemies(6 Core+6 Elite+6 Champion) gets +2 attak,+2 defence, max hp,+2 Rift Lords(if 2 or more are killed. If one is killed than only that one is resurrected) but the ability is disabled for that battle)
However Shadow Lord and Rift Master have somewhat low HP so they are not overpowered is not overpowered.

Yes, those. But now they have a weird race name
And about the faction. I like it, there are synergies and the general theme is well kept within the lineup. But I don't know about the racial. I mean, a might hero don't get all that good with more magic 'power', or does it?

Quote: Rogue - Assassin = Good, nothing to be changed, maybe some different names to spice them up even more.
Many faction proposals have names like "dark rogues" or "shadow assassins" (including some of my own factions).
I like these names because of their simplicity.
Quote:
Wisp - Spook Light = Good creature for this faction but I dislike their names, Wisp is too warcraft like and spook light doesn't suit the creature and sounds like evil bunny too me...
I say Witch Light (perfect for a witch faction) and Will o Wisp sound much better.
Wisp isn't really Warcrafty to me, never really played any of those games.
I honestly don't find Spook-Light to be that childish, I take it you've heard of the Spook-Light phenomena? It is pretty much the same as the Will-o-the-Wisp phenomena, but the name isn't used as much in fantasy.
Witch-Light does sound pretty awesome, I'll consider it.
Quote:
Birds of Prey - Dark Flock = Could use some better name but I love the idea of a whole flock that stalks the battlefield and I love the idea you given them, maybe a scarecrow-like creature that can turn into a flock of raven or who controlls a flock of raven should be here instead? But that is just a thought, I love this unit anyway.
Thanks, I like ravens
Quote:
Werewolf - Alpha Wolf = If you don't mind I will use Alpha Wolf myself in my own proposals in the future, finally a suiting name for the upgrade of a werewolf, I'm sick of my own upgrade names such as; lycanthrope, lunar lord, lunar beast, werebeast, werewolf lord and moon wolf, bleh! Alpha Wolf sounds perfect, still I think the special abilities should have some shapeshifting things within them.
No problem, use it as you see fit
Now about shapeshifting... I'm against it. Why would you be in human form during a battle if you're a fricking werewolf?
I can see its use if the human form is a spellcaster, but I have enough of those.
Quote:
Phooka - Moon Phooka = I don't like this unit, I love the art but I think you should replace this unit with a kelpie or nightmare, phooka sounds like something from legend of zelda and other horse creatures are more famous and cooler in my opinion, nightmares and kelpies could suit with this faction perfectly.
Kelpie is a water dwelling creature, best suited for a swamp faction (swamp faction with Kelpies would be fricking awesome btw.)
The Nightmare is an infernal creature, and I believe that many agree with me that placing the Nightmare in the Coven faction would be heresy on high level.
In mythology, the Phooka is a celtic shapeshifter that often takes the shape of a dark horse. I have never seen it used in a faction before, so I'm very happy to introduce it.
Also, my version has en enchanted mane that turns into dark spines that skewer its enemies! That's fricking awesome, imo.
The Phooka is my favourite creature in the entire faction, back off from my Phookas!
Quote:
Dark Artist - Invocator = I don't really like this creatures, you should consider a female spellcaster, maybe a hag, witch or sorceress? There aren't many females in this faction!
You shalt not have your way manic feminist! In a faction ruled by almighty female spellcasters the men deserve a place in the lineup!
Imo
Quote:
Moon Lord - Realm Guard = From Diablo2? I don't like creaturs from diablo in HOMM games, moon lord (clan) is even the same name for the diablo goat creature, and isn't that art for the creature aswel? They really look alike.
Huh, totally forgot about that, the name is pure coincidence. The artwork is indeed originally from Diablo3 if I remember correctly.
There's not an abundance of good goat-monster artwork around, and I was quite pleased when I found a piece that could be edited to fit the faction.
Borrowing one of their designs and editing it doesn't feel wrong to me at all. Diablo shares my occult theme, similarities are bound to happen.
The name is subject to change if I can find a better one. Do feel free to suggest some.
Quote:
Some shadow creature would be perfect here, maybe something like the nightshade:
http://vnmedia.ign.com/nwvault.ign.com/NWN2/creatures/MM35_PG196.jpg
Or maybe some other shadow-like beast? Argus/Beholder? Or some toad/frog like behemoth creature to suit with the witch theme
I've already explored the pure shadow theme with my Abyss faction, I am reluctant to introduce something like a shadow elemental to my faction.
@Maken: Might heroes in the Coven faction are generally Might/Magic mixes, they too benefit from the racial ability.
Being able to empower lesser spells without investing skills in them is quite a good ability for a might hero imo.

No I'd rather you create your own thread actually.
The Abyss faction was posted a long time ago, it's designed with Heroes 5 in mind though. I didn't believe in artwork so much back then, thought it hindered my imagination (which it did, until I learned to handle GIMP a bit)
Clicky
EDIT:
Quote: I didn't mean human-wolfman I meant wolfman into something even worse, some demonic-like wolf thing that went beserk, the true mythology of the werewolf is impossible to implant in the game, but why not turn it into something more interesting? A wolfman turning into a feral giant wolf (fenris like) for example.
Not a great fan of the idea, sorry.

As you develop this faction more, be careful not to become too much like H5 Dungeon. You still have a good amount of differences, but between the general theme, the colors, and especially the racial, you could end up becoming too similar to it.
I'm guessing this is more of a neutral faction rather than an evil one, which is nice. I think you should incorporate that old, rustic brown color into the theme more also.
I feel like you should find a better picture for the town too, and not just because I happened to steal that one for my Valkyrie faction . It seems too castle-like for this faction. I'm picturing wooden structures in a dark forest, maybe even with tree-houses.

This is designed to be a more interesting alternative to the Dark Elves of H5, so I'll definately keep that in mind,
If I come across a good picture of a town set in a dark forest, I'll gladly use it.
The current picture captures the mood quite well though, it is not all too bad imo.
Huh, you used that one for the Valkyrie faction? Totally forgot about that.

That's okay. It's not like I drew it .
When I read this faction I immediately thought of some particular artwork from a board game called 'Key to the Kingdom' that would work perfectly, but I don't think you'd ever find it on google images. It's an old game.

Hi, once again looking at the awesomeness of The Coven, I wonder if you'd do unit upgrades too (I mean actual pictures)? If so, what would you say about making the Upgraded Werewolf look like this?
By the way, approximately how long did editing in photoshop/some other programme take you? Because I have got sketches of units from my factions that I'd want to scan in, colour/edit, and hopefully compose them into a thread and post it on HC like your AWESOME idea However, just thinking about all the textures and light effects I'd have to do in order to make the units look 3d like yours is probably gonna take me a week...considering I'm far from proficient at using Photoshop
Once again for your faction:

Nah I'm not doing pictures for the upgrades. The normal pictures are enough for ya to understand what I'm going for.
With a bit of editing that werewolf could probably make a nice upgrade though.
Editing the pictures didn't really take that long. The problem is finding material, I spent most of my time making this faction on Google and Deviantart.
If ya already got all the stuff you need for the creatures, then you could probably fix something similar to what I've done in a few hours.
I'm no pro though.
Thanks a lot

I know it's enough to give the main idea, it's just if you wanted to finish this faction (hopefully you will)
Yeah, I agree that looking for inspiration in the internet is a pain...I searched for images for my factions before, but seeing how I was lacking a few for some creatures, and the ones I had had such different styles etc. I just decided to draw them myself.
Now the only thing I need is to Photoshop them. So it took you a few hours? That's a relief. And I'm sure you're a pro compared to me, not sure what my factions are gonna come out like
Thanks and good luck with The Coven.

@SkrentyzMienty: Good luck yourself! Always nice to see new faction-makers.
@MattII: Haha, stealing ideas from myself am I?
I think I understand what you're getting at though.
They're both dark and dreary, likes indigo and purple colours.
They both have ravens in the lineup.
They both have "dark" mages.
They both have a thing for lightning.
Among other things I guess.
I've left the Spiritualists though, H6 is a new chapter in faction-making for me.
I may revist them later, I liked the idea of introducing an enemy that both the demons and the mortal races had to fear.
The Coven Witches would hate them on an EXTREME level too, considering that they catch souls before they pass to the Moonrealm and harvest them.
For now though, I look upon the Coven without comparing it too much to my previous creations. Though I try not to reuse ideas all too much, as part of a personal challenge.
The Coven and the Abyss are extremely different in gameplay though

For once I didn't like Ad's faction.
The whole creature lineup is just...bland, lame, sucky, whatever you like to call it.
It does not make me go AAAH! OOH! NICE!
Instead it makes me go eh, you're kidding right, what's this crap?
Wisp? Never in heroes but love the idea itself.
Rogue? Okay, it's a classic.
Birds of prey? They're raves, not birds of prey. They're birds, birds that can't even fight. One word: WHY?
Werewolves, ugh, hate them but I can deal.
Phooka, what? A pony? well there's nightmares and unicorns so...
Dark artist? What? A sorcerer? Oh give me a break...
Oh well, this was a bust. What's the last level?
*stares, blinks, stares*
ARE YOU SNOWING KIDDING ME?! A BLOODY FAUN!
I don't know if I should cry or laugh. I think I'd do both if I was capable of crying...
Idea about the special ability though, what if level 4 made spells with duration impossible to cleanse?

Haha, well you can't please everyone
I know you enjoyed my Snake Cult faction, so may I ask why this one fails so utterly hard in comparison?
Quote: Idea about the special ability though, what if level 4 made spells with duration impossible to cleanse?
Hmm... yeah, or perhaps the increase in % per stage also influenced the chance of successful cleansing.
So a 100% Empowered Spell would require a 100% stronger Cleansing spell.
EDIT:
Quote: Birds of prey? They're raves, not birds of prey. They're birds, birds that can't even fight. One word: WHY?
WHY NOT?
Having your body pecked to pieces by a flock of ravens would probably hurt like hell.
And Ravens are birds of prey, as well as scavengers.

Haha this faction reminds me of the land of Antiva from Dragon age, a nation filled with assassins XD. Otherwise it also reminded me the H5 dungeon.
Overall I really like this faction, nice mix of units, nice lore, graphical style and cool combat style. Just really well made, I would very much like to play as this faction.
just one question, where do they get their riches?
Rogue > Assassin
good and fitting core unit with nice abilities that captures the factions play-style. Fade and Opportunist
Wisp > Spook-Light
Need better name, and I wonder if a single orb of light will be especially cool hmm. Otherwise very good unit, like unstable and I like the overall concept of spiritual that all the "moon-based" units have.
Birds of Prey > Dark Flock
no comment really, It is a cool unit and that it a swarm of units makes it somewhat unique. Works very well with this faction. Pester
Werewolf > Alpha Wolf
Originally I wouldn't want werewolves in Heroes but this works just fine. I like the Overpower ability, since it will give a "somewhat boring unit" a interesting use. Okey the Werewolf is not that boring as this faction needs a powerhouse unit. Like the attack animation I could really see it in front of me
Phooka > Moon Phooka
Phooka is better then all unicorns and nightmares combined!
Rift Field might need some adjustment when it comes to it's balance "scale-wise". But I assume everything is subject to balance anyway. Dark Synergy, Very good
Dark Artist > Invocator
Dark Might sounds "kinda" boring, but on the other hand it adds strategical thinking on both sides. Don't know really, might need a little adjustment. Kinda cool unit otherwise, and yes it should be male, if all the hero witches are female.
Moon Lord > Realm Guard
Perfect names(don't care that it's also from D2 since there it was an awesome unit!), however Moon Lord is a much cooler name then Realm Guard, plz change place!
Axe Sweep is fine but like you already said, it's not that interesting. Shadow Feed sounds powerful and cool, awesome for a champion unit, besides it make the Moon Lord a huge focus point for both sides and that is good.
Witches are awesome, Guildmaster however...
I understand the name but, it needs to go
Empowered Magic sound pretty cool but seems kinda pointless for a pure might hero, But one shouldn't be having a "pure" might hero when playing the Coven I guess
Nice shops(oh wait, gimps..?) by the way.
OMG this made me really thrilled for all the awesome mods for H6 that are sure to follow
It also made me very eager to really start working on my own faction
Quote: will o wisp
@Nightterror just no... (it is time other games not only copy units and design from Warcraft but also names)
