It's cool, but seeing as dwarves are arkath's children, it wouldn't fit quite well in Ashan, seeing as they have so many frosty creatures .
It's a great idea though

I agree with that. Maybe you should change the Yeti or the Giant with some fire beast or else. Also your Fenris is really not the "real one". It's one of the most powerful Scandinavian creatures. It should be large, covered with chains and so on. It should be elite. Anyway, I'm only preposing.

Also - how about Fallen Warrior or Spirit for the base creature Einherjar?

I actually disagree with the idea that Dwarfs worship Fire (as long as it's my faction)..
I imagine them more frost based rather than fire.. and Norse mythology fits them perfectly IMHO..

ONLY in case they remove the Angels from Haven! Angels and Valkyries in one faction is too much! Way too similar!

What you did there is pick up a random bunch of northern mythological creatures and thrown them together. I have absolutely no clue why Einherjars and Valkyries would ally with Fenrir and Frost Giants rather than kill them. Or what the Dwarves are doing with the spirits of dead human warriors, that the einherjar are. And then you go and throw Yetis in too, and the hangover they will feel in the morning, will not be from the ale and the grog but from smashing each others heads in.

Just because they all dwell in cold climates, doesn't mean they're friends.

I cant believe how they joined dwarves and elves in H1 H2 and H3. They dont even know eachoter! And how can a fire and a water elemental be freaking togeter in one town? I always tought the Medusa, the minotaur and the cerberus were individuals not creatures.

Heroes of might and magic is about joining creatures in different combinations. Ashan, Enrothe, Erathia, Axeoth and every might and magic place should not be copared to Earth mythologies. They are inspired on them not copied with great perfection.

Holy based?

True, they(atleast their present day versions) wear shining armor, huge shields, and spears, riding white steeds. On paper they fit perfectly, and look like good alternatives to angels. But this whole valkyre thing is pagan, and there is nothing holy about it...
Norse mythology shouldn't be in the human faction. They have more place in any snow based faction than in Haven.

With that said, the faction is kind of random but that's what I like about it. It has cool creatures, and you can make up any story so their alliance would make sense in the world of Ashan. Certainly way more memorable and unique than the H5 one. Kind of like a dwarven faction in H3.

Ok then next up a Tolkien-esque faction, here, how's this for a line up?

CORE
Hobbit Scout
Elf Archer
Orc Warrior

ELITE
Nazgul Mage
Human Strider
Cave Troll Berserker

CHAMPION
Balrog

What? It's a nice different compination, isn't it? And I mean, there ain't no way, those creatures are going to kill each other, right?

Einherjar in MY line-up are NOT humans! That's why i posted the artworks, and they exactly represent how i see them! In my line-up they are spirits of fallen Dwarf warriors resurrected by Valyries.
Fenrir fits the same way as Bear Riders do! If Bears can ally with Dwarfs why Wolfs can not?
with Frost Giants i don't see anything wrong either and they make a Perfect Champion Unit!
if Wyverns and Cyclops can be with Orcs, why Yeti can not be with dwarfs?? and btw. Yetis do not consume alkohol , so Dwarven kingdom is safe!
You can make a point about Valkyries though..

BUT! wait..

as a Heroes5 fan, which you are, how can you possibly explain the presence of Cyclops in the Orc fation?
The whole line-up of Academy exept Mages?
Minotaurs in Dark-Elf faction being a slave? Black Dragons alligning with Elves??? or Dark-Elf riding a dinosaur??? or Hydras???

so that's why i think you are just being a hater. As according to the way you judge factions, you can only like Sylvan, Inferno, and Necropolis (even though they have "not fitting" Vampires) and only from Heroes5..

and if you can come up with a better line-up , please go ahead! i will be pleased to watch what are you capable of..!

thank you for listening

True to a point - ultimately what we want is towns that are thematically well tied-together. However, put units together from different mythologies and you can easily break the cohesion (although possibly only in the minds of those who know a lot about real mythology...).

For me, Yeti is in the realms of cryptozoology, not fantasy or mythology, so they don't fit and I'm glad they never quite made it into H5.

Have your Dwarves discovered necromancy, what with the Einherjars?

ok then, let's start seeing things your way..
HoMM5

Academy - is destroyed completely by Rakshasa (evil creature), Genies (after gaining freedom as they granted 3 wishes already to their master) and Titans (who in the end became to hard to control)

Dungeon - Black Dragon get bored and ate all the Dark Elves, who had no chance, magic resistance, you know..

Haven - Angels punished and killed humans because of their sins.. only Priests are left alife and Griffins

Sylvan - Savage Treants and Green Dragons destroyed all the Elves and started fighting with each other

Fortress - Fire dragon burned Dwarven kingdom

Stronghold - Cyclops changed his ratio from Goblins to Orcs, mmmm... way more tasty!

so who is left?

Inferno and Necropolis...?
Is that how you see HoMM5... with 2 factions??? hilarious!!!!

They could be put together because there is not a classic hatred as there is between dwarves and giants, entities of Ysgaard and the minions of Loki. You just can't put them together as you could not put together the creatures of the line-up I offered as an example. Especially in the case of Fenrir and Valkyries, is like having an Angel and a Devil in the same faction. Olympians would not be in the same faction as Titans, despite their common mythological Greek background. Vampire Hunters would not go along with Vampires, though they both appear in Gothic tales. And for more modern interpretations: Werewolves and vampires, genies and efreets, orcs and elves. You get my drift?

There are some creatures that are just polar opposites of each other. It's good to make a little bit of a research and try to come up with a coherent line-up and only then tie it together with your own story. It's going to feel a lot better if the creatures reflect upon the legends that they were taken from. That's what Ubisoft has been doing with their race based background and to a lesser extent, even NWC with their ideological backgrounds.

By the way, I didn't like H5 Dungeon's reptilian themes and Hydra's presence in it, so much. Nor the Wyverns in the Stronghold, though I would tolerate them.

Now if you want Einherjar to be dwarves then that's fine, they're on the clear. Then you will have to deal with NightTerror's wrath, not mine, for having 3 dwarves in the same faction!

If you want wolves in the faction, well, good, but see what Fenrir stands for first and then think again. Unless you want to change their story and force them to fit. It will just look silly if not weird. But, well, it's your faction...

I think you let mythological history limit your imagination too much Kodial.

Just cuz some valkyries thought the Fenrir was like this really bad wolf and stuff doesn't mean that they can't hang out and be best friends forever in another universe.

I guess that is why they call it fantasy.

I made a well-received über holy faction called Fists of Elrath that had a demon in the line-up. You jelly?

On top of that Kodial is going to find some of those combinations weird but people who don't know the lore may well not (we all know Angels and Devils are opposites in real mythology but some of the more obscure Norse ones are less well-known.

ok THAT'S what i am talking about! constructive feedback, rather than "I hate them ALL!!!".. thank you
yes, being honest i am not very good with Norse mythology (in Greek i am waaay better), but i am quite not bad with HoMM and Disciples universe..! if you have played Disciples you will see that Dwarfs have Giants, and i wasn't expecting that putting them is a crime
still i think my faction artworks are great, you can rename fenris to wolves for example and it will be ok then... and i also think it would be very interesting to play with a faction like This rather than Orcs that we had in HoMM5 or will have in Heroes 6
