For all those who think 5 factions isn't enough for H6:

1. In each faction, you have 4 options:

Might Blood
Might Tears
Magic Blood
Magic Tears

That's 20 options (4 x 5 factions).....this is quite alot compared to 1 option per faction we have been used to....so H3 had 9 options. H6 has 20 options.

I am not sure it's fair to consider it like that but each class does plays quite differently according to which path you pursue.

Eh DoubleDeck, people would complain if they were given 100 factions.."Too generic, too many!" or some such nonsense..people just love to complain.  About a game they haven't even played yet.  Can it absolutely stink?  Yep..it can.  Or it might be epic..ya never know.

Kidding? With all this complaining I'd say they are considering it plenty.

The things most people are complaining about are trivial. I was considering a more profound gameplay-related revelation. I hope it is not the case, but you never know. Master of Orion 3 seemed to be better than its predecessor on all levels, and its utter failure was quite a revelation, let me tell you. The skill system in Heroes 6 could make or break the game for instance. It has potential, but it all depends on the implementation.

I believe no one wants big number of factions, everyone just has his favorite one and when they just cross it out from the game its sad. also there is some common prejudice about fantasy games that doesnt apply to this one (being the presence of units mentioned before).. i dont say that fantasy cant live without them but when you create a sequel to a game with a huge community you shouldnt just put your sick dreams into to the game and be happy about it without thinking about the players that always loved to build their armies of favorite units. So it is nothing about the diversity its about preferences.. i really think the game mechanics will be stunning and great but it is obviously a marketing move to leave out few of the basic factions to make plenty of expansions you have to wait for and then pay another huge pile of money for it. It is how things work these days. No one wants to produce something good because of the feeling of responsibility to do his work the best possible way but just to ensure the profit. Do you think they play around with stupid frog units to make you happy? feel like they work on the design every day just to surprise you and innovate the world? no its just to fill the space in the basic game and to possibly draw back players that complained about the nagas disappearance from the game. But did they revive Tower (Order) nation? They did not, this way they can bring it on in an expansion and that makes more money and possible covers the dead interval between heroes VI and heroes VII release maybe.

@creepiestdani
Quite so, I can think of a few things that could turn away people. I'm sure the average gamer would feel overwhelmed without a filtering system, just seeing ALL those skills in one place. Or with an interface that fails to show subcategories as tears/blood, active/passive etc. I find it very curious how the interface of so many games can end up so poor/dysfunctional/confusing. They could pick a random fan and he'd do it better. Either way you can bet we've brought up a few points on how we'd like the final version to be.

Aanyway back on topic!

Santuary - I chose the option "pleased" because I like the Asian philosophy and theme and most of the creatures look good, but I don't like a water based faction because the majority of battles happens on land. The music is probably going to be excellent and I'm just wondering what will the mechanics of the "Honor" ability be like.

Shark warrior/Shark captain - Good work, but the weapon could be better. It coresponds more to the philosophy of the Stronghold rather then the Sancuary.
Kappa/Kappa shoya - A big bearded frog with a water container for a head. Seems odd.
Coral maiden/Pearl maiden - Good work, looks like a good replacement for the medusa, but it is another non combat unit on the combat map.

Spring spirit/River spirit - Good work, but it is another non combat unit on the combat map.
Snow maiden/Ice maiden - Good work, but it is another non combat unit on the combat map. Sancuary has three similar creatures and none of them looks like a combat creature.
Wave warrior/Tide warrior - Excellent work.

Kirin/Cloudwalker kirin - Excellent work.

You'll find more bloodthirst in an average chess piece than in most of the H6 units

It is hillarious that this website lists Kirin as a kind of a Deer:

On the other hand they have one of the best list of legendary creatures I have ever encountered

I, for one, am very pleased with how Naga came out.

Sure, I feel that Sylvan, Fortress and Academy are huge losses especially since Ashan has such a clearly refined lore based on all these races being part of the picture and worshipping their dragon god. Dungeon is (albeit very slightly) less important for the Ashan storyline but still a too iconic faction in the series to be left out.

So yeah, ideal would be two expansions with two factions each. Sadly, xerox's objections on the cost-benefit of such a move sounds quite... well, sound.

There is no word about Medusa just yet. Since they never been mentioned, they could as well not exist on Ashan. Unless by Medusa you mean the Coral Maiden, then that's one of the three Naga species indeed.
