State sued because of school shooting

In my country, unlike in USA, we do not sue for rediculous reasons for even more rediculous amounts of money. I seriously doubt the victims families blame the state for what Adam Lanza did.
Good to see an american realizing the insanity. I too give a thumb down for this.

In my first trip to the US I was pretty shocked to see the car mirrors with the text "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear." Later I've heard somebody sued a car company after an accident and they all have that now. Another aspect of Americans that seem totally weird to outsiders.

A wacky liberal New York paper published the names and addresses of pistol permit holders, making gun owners even safer and endangering those who don't own guns as being easy targets. Though some crooks may use the information to try to steal guns when no one is home.

Oh, the liberal rag is not the only one wanting to post such information. The democrat freaks in control of Connecticut want to make public the names and addresses of the handgun permit holders there.
If someone breaks into one of those houses to steal a gun and kills the homeowner the legislators should go on trial as accomplices to murder. No doubt whacked out liberal gun control freaks will camp some of the addresses and harass the gun owner and his family too.
And of course Obama wants more gun control legislation.

As much as I am certain that american gun freedom is out of control, this kind of stupid move is only going to put a bulls-eye mark on gun owners which in turn would make people without gun into easy targets for robbery or worse.
I do not like it when instead promoting something, they make something else worse to make the other thing appear better. Like here, they should make not having a gun a good thing. Not making having a gun a bad thing. In this case though it is bad for everyone probably.
It is kind of the same thing in the Gothenburg area but with collective traffic. Personally I love collective traffic but when they make things harder for car drivers to make collective traffic a better option, it pisses me off. They should improve collective traffic instead to REALLY make it a better option.

Chicago (Illinois) has tough gun laws but leads the nation in gun violence so apparently gun control is not the solution to end gun violence. By the way, Obama was in the Illinois state legislature.

Don't you Americans realize that it's the NON-WEAPON OWNERS anyway, who suffer from your general armament crazyness?
You just have to take a moment and think clearly. Is the fact that PART of the straight population is armed, REDUCING crime in a sense that the criminals retire, for fear of being shot?
The answer is a simple and clear NO. The effect on the criminal scene is simply that criminals - even PETTY criminals - expect people to be armed and expect having to defend their lives against their victims in case they try to make a move.
Consequently their finger is on the trigger, because they expect trouble.
SOME criminals may have had the notion that the elderly may be a helpless enough target and they can do them without any risk - and were maybe in for a surprise.
But most of those can read papers as well and learn.
So the arms race is simply upping the ante for the PUBLIC, since the criminal is ready to use deadly force in order to defend himself.
It's basically the absolute same thing as the thing with cops shooting people for the slightest excuse. the COPS are prepared to use deadly force AS WELL in order to defend themselves, since they ALSO expect everyone to whip out a gun and blast them, so THEIR fingers are on the trigger either.
Add to that the fact, that even children are armed nowadays, and you have a Wild West situation: shoot first, ask later.
The public is basically FORCED to arm themselves, because being unarmed doesn't come with an advantage anymore, once the general expectation is that everyone will be armed anyway. Which adds to the general mayhem, since a lot of people that have no experience or clue about them have one, so there are accidents with weapons as well.
However, that damage is done now. The public already reacted buying guins like crazy in the aftermath of the last school shooting, and you don't need a prophet to expect another raise in general arms violence. More weapons means more shots will be fired.
I wonder what will happen in Texas or Utah, when the first TEACHER loses it. When the first is so fed up with the brats and their disinterest or even insolence that he whips out his piece. How will Mommy and Daddy react when little Joey comes home in a hurry, saying, "Mom, Mom, today Mr. Parker pulled his piece, yelling at Jody, just one more word, you little piece of crap, and I swear to God I will paint the wall behind you with your useless brain."

I try to treat every person and every case fairly and I do agree with Elodin that it sounds reallly stupid of the newspaper to show such information. Only bad guys would like to know which houses belong to gun owners and USA is full of bad guys and the result would probably not be good for non-gun owners. Hopefully that newspaper like you said, will not have any drastic effect but just because I disagree a lot with Elodin it does not mean he is my enemy whom I must disagree with at all times. In the end my stance on gun ownership/control does not change for some stupid newspaper.

Of course I'm not telling you who to agree with, who and what do you take me for?  Problem is, Elodin is like a broken record and his every next post is a full copy of the last one (he can easily be replaced by a script and by the way his style is EXACTLY like the style of the socialist slogans before the dissolution of the Eastern Bloc) while you on the other hand should be able to invest some thinking into the issue at hand. Now please do so and tell me: how does the announcement of the people who allegedly own guns will automatically mean that the people who allegedly don't own guns are thratened if:
- you don't know for certain that the list is exhaustive;
- you don't know what other security the members of the latter group employ;
- you don't know how susceptible to crime the neighbourhood of all these people is (police presence and so on).
Furthermore, if you are burglar, would you seriously attack a house solely because you have not found the name of some person (among thousands of others) in some newspaper in an article about gun ownership? And would you read through thousands of names just to pick your target? Do you seriously believe that this is how this stuff gets done?
And among other things, it has already been mentioned several times in this thread only that guns won't help you one bit in many RL cases of burglary so it's a broken logic to assume that the gun owners are protected in the first place.

I know how Elodin is and that he can not be convinced unless he wants to. I have not seen the newspaper so there could be countless elements that I am not aware of but the reasoning behind my logic is crystal clear (maybe not in my explaining). The only issue is how drastic the effect is and it could go from no effect at all to really bad effect but I am in no position to tell how drastic that effect would be.
Having a database of adresses with gun owners would more or less help burglars chosing their targets. If burglars can chose, their victim would not have a gun and if they can seperate gun owners from non-gun owners it would make non-gun owners a little more vulnerable.
What I do not get is why a liberal newspaper (according to Elodin) would show this kind of information. It sound more like a pro-gun thing to do make non-gun owners feel insecure and buy guns.

The good guy (gal, in this case) with the gun wins again, thanks to her trusty pistol. She defended herself and her kids from a home invader.  She's a pretty good shot as 5 of the 6 bullets hit him in the head or neck. I'd recommend aiming for center of mass though.

Authorities found Slater a short time later bleeding profusely in a neighbor’s driveway.
“I’m dying. Help me,” he told them, according to Chapman.
Slater was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center and is expected to survive, the sheriff said.
