You can't make a paly-bard. Bards have to be a non-lawful alignment and Paladins have to be lawful good.

A Paly-Bard would be uber. You take 2 levels of Paladin to get Divine Grace (add your charisma bonus to ALL saving throws) and then you do the rest in bard.

Thanks for the tips Meroe, but sadly, I won't be following many of them.

Extend+Empower can really drain the bank if I'm not careful.

LMAO.  Like I said .. have fun.  I think that if you're going to be mainly a fighter with some cleric for self buffing and healing, you'll be fine.  Otherwise, we're going to have to bring heal wands with us when we quest with you

It's the other way around to be honest.

Mostly cleric with just a little bit of fighter for, like I said, mostly the feats.
I'm still going down the healing route, planning on adding prayer of life, life magic, unyielding sovereignty and the rest of the fun stuff.

If it's needed I COULD stay back and heal, but it's sort of...I don't know, it doesn't have the same feel as going up and smashing heads. (And I want to be anble to solo, just a little bit.)
Btw, don't trust me too much. I'm not that quick on my fingers so those healing wands might be a good idea after all.

Having even more fun now when I've reached lv3 cleric, new spell list and a whole lot to chose from.

LOL   I might be an idea that after gaining enough favor to unlock the Favored Soul you might prefer that.  They are kinda the natural born battle cleric after all.

So how are you going to build this battle cleric??  Or did you go for a pre-build?  Also I recommend only using Extend and Empower occasionally.  Have them dormant mostly.  Extend won't be needed yet anyway and Empower only occasionally.  It just saves a massive amount.  One of the problems is that making a battlecleric and building up Strength and Con, leaves less for Wisdom and its Wisdom that gives a cleric its power - its spell power and spell points.  That's what I meant about weakening your characters abilities.  So my advice is to ignore Extend totally for several levels at least and only use Empower Healing rarely.

Like I said, online guide.

After the first honeymoon with extend/empower I've come to the same conclusion as you. I usually pop empower when I'm for a tougher fight, when I really need to get those hp points back.
Extend is mostly used for shield of faith or other 3-4 minute buffes, for cutting down on the microing. (Not that it's needed at this moment. )

But anyways, as this is my first toon I'm sure I'll make mistakes, probably a lot of them. I've even learnt a few things already. Like that enchantments on items that have the exact same "effect name" doesn't stack, and that going against bosses unbuffed can turn ugly. (And that going against them OVER-buffed can turn anti-climactic. )

And once again, at the moment I'm just having fun, technical details and self created characters can come next.

Ahh the Warpriest, I did think so  This was my choice for my first ever cleric and I got her to level 20 too.  You may find that by level 10 or even before, his effectiveness in battle is severely diminished.  Or maybe that was just my char .... I listened to too many people's comments and ended up concentrating only on her healing, so maybe I gimped my character

EDIT:  I'm going to log into ddo for a while.

Well yeah, if you focus on combining combat and healing...and are told to only use healing, of course something will go to waste.

But I'm not sure how "team-play"'y this toon will be. I guess that alot of people are looking for clerics just for the heals (and maybe buffs), which can be a little bit boring.

Had a thought earlier whilst questing with Jaba and Selcy.  Might be an idea to type in the thread what weapons/items you're toons use.  I tend to pull swords and bows and currently I've passed items onto Will and Selcy.  But I would rather mail/gift items to guildies and if its not needed just sell it.

So as I mainly play a sorceror ... I use wands and robes.  So would be grateful for anything like that.

Hey all, I want to get involved and am downloading DDO now. What's the vibe? How do I get in on this? I was thinking of going a fighter-thief or just plain fighter. Any tips?

Hi Baron,

If you read the first post on this thread it will take you (briefly) through the classes.

Once you've downloaded and created your character, we can get you invited to the guild.

Pick and play a character that suits you.  We have plenty of fighters, but only two healers lol.  But ultimately its your choice.  You have two character slots.

I'd go with fighter/ thief (we have quite a few pure fighters), building up Dexterity and Strength to at least 16 each, constitution to 10 and intelligence to 12. (I think that that works...)

Welcome! Have fun. *Goes to sleep*

Excellent. The rogue-fighter I shall go then. Will I still be able to use some decent armor without compromising my dexterity too much? Will I be able to dual-wield?

I've still got an hour of downloading left, so if you could please give me a quick intro on how I get involved with the guild once I'm in there, that'd be great.

You should be able to wear up to Medium armor without too much difficulty/ penalty to you heightened dex, and you will be able to dual wield. (I suggest a larger sword in your main hand and a small sword in your off hand, since that incurs the least penalties.)

For the guild, just find one of us and we'll add you in. (Seriously, just tell us your name here and one of us will find you.) Now, a quick pointer for starting, first class you should make is the rogue, as they get the most skill points. Use your large amounts of SP to cap your disable device skill and then your open locks skill (this allows you to disable traps and open chests/ door that can't be opened by anyone else.) After that, add to your hide and move silently skill. Anything left should go into tumble (So that you take less falling damage).

After your first level up, find the Fighter trainer and multi-class to fighter. You don't have to visit rogue again from this point on, just keep adding to your disable device and open lock skills.

Action Points are annoying to explain, so I'll leave that for another day.

Edit: Will, aren't you an Aussie?
