September 8 looks like mission impossible for reasonably balanced and complete game...even if all the feedback from the public beta is taken into account, I don't know what changes can be made and integrated into the retail version for what...2 months?

I'll tell you this much: On Tuesday, when I download the public beta, I'm connecting directly to my router. None of this waiting for six hours crap I had to deal with last time.

I also had a problem with creature growth, all my creature pools started saying silly numbers like 2800000 and I couldn't recruit any. That's a bug I forgot in my previous post somewhere listing loads of bugs. Also there was a time when the screen stopped scrolling at all. Really hope the new beta is at least playable.

Quote: Check for example the Cores of Haven and Necropolis (giving more hints will be too much for a public board).
As I suspected, this is exactly where we disagree. The only similarity between the two mentioned Core tier lineups is that they both have a ranged and a support unit (no news, we knew that from the creature descriptions already). The third unit fulfills a different role in each army (tank or aggressive, also readable from the available descriptions).
As for the two abilities that I suspect you claim to be copied, you are forgetting that they both have a 2nd function, which works in totally different ways (hint: they both have a distinct harmful "side").
To me, the Core tiers of the aforementioned factions (Haven/Necro) are the best example of what they are doing right with H6.
To see what they are doing wrong, just enter any town.

Who does? We are all in the same boat there. But I decided to stop whining as I think we have received enough hints that they are changing it before release.

This is a very small difference. The main functions of these abilities and even of the creatures that have them are very similar, if not identical - provided that we're talking about the same thing of course.
Anyway, enough about this. We'll need to see what's changed in the public beta before drawing conclusions.

weren't we all complaining about pretty much the same things? It would be mad for them to ignore us. I'm pretty sure it will be fixed, especially since a lot of those issues can be quickfixed by a simple tuning of numbers.
What is usually impossible to balance out is a big problem in game core mechanics - I don't see any so far in HoMM6, like I did with other HoMM games (and it was too much focus on randomness, which went to absolutely absurd unwinnable scenarios like one player getting the ultra strong & ultra rare town portal spell in HoMM2 in his guild on a big map and the other getting some weak L5 spell...)
Some factions need a little rework, true, but it's nothing compared to truly BAD mechanics of previous games. yes, they were fun, but they were completely imbalanced. While some claim there was a lot of charm in that, I think of it as annoying, especially after a few games where you get complete crap in guilds and weak arties and your opponent gets best spells/best arties and crushes you like a bug.

And a good player with weak spells can still win over a beginner with strong spells.

What hints? They said it's a work in progress, as they've said for over half a year now. We've seen how much has been done so far. Unless they hear it clearly from the community as a whole I doubt much will be changed. I mean, they thought it was only the artwork people didn't like...

complete beginner, yes.
Average player that got lucky, no.
That's fair? no.
Luck was a factor way too big for a game played competitively.

I guess it just doesn't concern me because
-I completely suck at strategy games, regardless.
-I embrace unpredictability.
-I hate comptetitive gaming.
-I'm selfish.
-I hate comptetitive gaming.
I can see why other people may be bothered tho.

And now you will have only 2-3 distinct paths for developing your hero. I prefer to start with Pathfinder I

That is and was a question of map-making.
You simply have to play more difficult maps - that's a problem with competetive maps anyway, since player want to have to do stuff. This leads to an overwhelming importance of everything that has to do with logistics (in general, not the skill) and organisational experience: how can I do as much as possible as fast as possible and how do I maximize my action potential?
You can change that by making things more difficult. Pathfinder doesn't help, if there isn't much to pick OR if guards are massive and no child's play.
In short, different maps need different abilities, at least when it comes to priorities.
And of course the easier the map as a whole the more important Luck becomes, since skill becomes less and less important.
I'd like to add, though, that the artifact situation has gotten worse, due to the fact that there are now special artifacts for every faction (not only for Necro), and others that not every hero can equip - you may find one hell of an artie - and not be able to use it with your main hero.

Am I the only one who thinks there is simply less of everything in heroes 6 ?
In most of the aspects of the game, the quantities went down (besides in the strategy aspect as from what I've seen it's a bit richer, which is cool)

I was talking about the beta, If we were not to talk about heroes before the game was actually out, there would be no need for any of the threads would there be ?

Yes, the game is much emptier in many regards - not just the map. As for the quality which is supposed to compensate for the lost quantity - it remains to be seen but my hopes are not very high. It could turn to be a good but awfully repetitive game.
