Two examples.. Resurrect and resurrect true in H2. Resurrection before and after expert earth mastery in H3.

that makes sense. for example light magic 2 adds a resurrection effect and light magic 3 makes resurrection permanent.

I completly agree with that solution.

Would be fun if the other schools also got similar effects so the Spell Mastery perks would be more worth taking.

That is the obvious solution to many spell problems - indeed, that was how it was in the old games, and there are simply no reason why it should not be like that in the new games. Similarly destructive spells since Heroes 3 scaled their SP modifier with mastery also, so that for instance Lightning Bolt did 11 x SP damage when non-mastered, but 20 x SP when expert mastery in H5 - a significant boost.

I also agree, but what about the resurrecting units aka Priestesses and Vestals and Ghosts?

I would myself have given less units resurrection abilities, but even as it is, it could probably help the problem if they were made less powerful.

Yeah. But if core creatures have perma resurrect, even if weak, it is quite unfair if it takes to get to level 15 for other races to get it as a spell. Maybe the units get resurrect when the stack is big enough?

The most to my liking is some negative effect to resurrection, like HP and/or damage reduction. This one is actually really hard to find a good solution to...

Why would I heal 15 damage when I can do 176 damage by shooting? No that would make the ablitily useless.

Actually, Heal was a pretty good spell in Heroes 3 imo. Not because of the HP it healed - that was only useful with level 6/7 creatures (although with the new increased HP to damage ratios, that would be more beneficial). But the main benefit of Heal was that it removed all negative spells but let positive spells remain. In that way, it was preferable to dispell in many situations.
