In fact, the spells were not stronger but the HP much lower. With 6-8 spell power and lightning (SPx25) bolt you could destroy in one hit the level 7 weekly production for barbarians and knights (65/80x2). With SP=6 and lightning bolt you can't even scratch an ancient or archangel in H3.

In 1vs1 situation, even with ULTRA FAST (7) speed of the Phoenixes, Bone Dragon wins. Unless you use the cheap hit& run which ruins homm even more than diplomacy.
100 hp vs 150 hp.
The average Bone Dragon attacks is higher (25-45 = 38) to (20-40) 30 of Phoenix.
The Hex attack can work against computer, but most of the time it's bad - unless you are Warlock in which cases the Dragon stack + armageddon is just ridiculously strong.
Warlock with just his Dragon stack is more dangerous than with other units.
Warlock is just so strong anyway...

Yes, hopefully the 1vs1 situation does not exist in Heroes, otherwise we would already have a winner on top of the list, and we don't. All towns can win, by one tactic or another. In MP tournaments, the town selection was always random.

In Heroes 2 appart from Knight the other towns can win. Saying Knight can win by themselves is a NO. Like fortress, You need to capture another town before the end of week 2 at the latest. They are even weaker than Fortress in homm 3.

Then you aren't good enough with those factions.

Quote: Fortress in H3 is one of the strongest towns.
I'm curious to know why. It's widely considered Underpowered and with many good reasons.
It's a decent town on small or ressource poor map.

It has its cons and pro, as any town. The actual WCL tournament, where people kill each other daily (not for real until now), shows very balanced ratings for fortress, WIN/LOSS ratio. The library is full of threads about fortress being very good town. Fast development, goodly heroes, creature bank on map affiliated to it, mighty gorgons being the ultimate killer against level 7 and many other reasons.

Oh ok, well idk Heroes 3 extensively anyway. I may be the sole dude here that doesn't like it that much.
But I still played it and from experience I have found them quite lacking in raw power.
In your table though, Having Necro and Conflux last means nothing considering they are banned - they were when i played 8-10 years ago on gaming zone / gamespy.
I agree with Inferno being the worst though, the "demon farming" in pvp doesn't work at all - you need too much time.
Most of the list is spot on, and Castle from my experience when I played it was too strong and easy (Cleric with alot of chances to get diplomacy ? ... nice balance nwc).

I also find hydras to be very effective for early topia, but I think it doesn't work too well on hard difficulty, which is the standard, I think.

I loved H2 a lot too, but after years of playing, each game became a sort of skirmish between hit&run experts, therefore H3 was like fresh air, with the patches. I don't recall a single big battle in hundred of games of H2, everyone was doing its best to annihilate the other by guerrilla tactics, thus the possible win with every town. Was fun and intense, but a bit simplistic.
Edit: the list is not showing the towns from strong to weakest order, but in the "most played" order, which means nothing, considering that all newbies choose castle and rampart for a long time before moving further. The win/loss ratio for inferno is still good. Probably the tower and dungeon would have a better ratio if XL maps, they growth slower but strong.

Yeah but I prefered, prefer and will prefer Homm 2. That's a question of tastes though, and you are right about it being hit&run.
It seems logical that most of the people have Homm 3 as their all-time favorite, but some don't.
Heroes 2 got a very cool campaign as well, best graphics in every homm yet, music is just... the best, and in this version we got all emblematic heroes - the one that were so badass - CragHack, Yog, Sandro, Killburn, Thundax, I mean come on...
Homm 2 >> Homm 5 tribes / Homm 3 >>>>>>Homm 6 >>>>>> Homm 4 >>> Homm 1
If Heroes 6 doesn't see dramatic changes, it will be the worst. If they listen to the community, Heroes 6 could be my second favorite of all time.

I prefer HoMM3 WoG over all of them. Due to its immense modding possibilities, mister Kalu can now even revive H2 in H3 platform, you should check that thread, looks awesome.

Hmmm, I currently play Heroes 6 - but it's abit disappointing. It seems a beta. And because for me no rules is the funniest mode in this broken serie, I miss diplomacy (still here, never triggers...)
