Web is on a strike

So... I keep getting major sites in a state of a "blackout"

Blackout

This is the site where you can voice yourself in case you choose to

Wikipedia blacked out.

Not that it'll help. Enjoy your 1984.

We'll get the whole package too, of course, just with a year or two of obligatory lag. Implementing good Western ideas requires an IQ of over 60 and provides a bit less opportunity for public thievery so our government simply skips those; but it makes up for it with enthusiasm for things like this.

I was going to make a thread like this. Quite amazed that nobody did so before.

Anyways, the nature of the problem is very interesting. Apparantly, the land of democracy and free-speech wants to censor sites, just like in iran, syria and china, because they "Seriously" damage the revenues of the music industry.

Here is a link that explains everything very noob friendly.
http://blog.reddit.com/2012/01/technical-examination-of-sopa-and.html

a video link
http://vimeo.com/31100268

So in the end we enter the "degenerate" era of the internet. If this two laws were to be passed, every snowing thing can be censored because of how they feel. I am not taking this too far.

If someone,a website or whatever, posts a link to "COPYRIGHTED" material(Yes,saying I love ponies is copyrighted.),your link, post, website or whatever will be taken down. If you are identified, you will be asked to pay a juicy fine.

It will be hard as hell to monotor such a thing but it becomes much easier when you are targeted by a company.

So the US entertainment Mafia made a joke and this joke is quite possible that ic could be passed.

Once again, the US amazes the world with its hypocrisy.

The Land of Democ--- wait, what?

You know, these sites blacking out will get them nowhere. If they want to pass the bill, they will pass it. I doubt it will do them any good though, piracy will still find a way.

But anyway, I don't think piracy is the issue here, it's just a desperate and doomed attempt to control the internet itself.

I know a better answer to them, than blacking out web sites for 24 hours: Boycott their online industries. Buy nothing from the internet.

That ought to shake them up a bit, don't you think?

I don't know, but starting today, I'm downloading the internet. Just in case. I just hope I manage to download enough for mankind to rebuild after WMG bans civilization on the grounds of copyright infringement.

I'll begin with Arkham City, because it starts with "A", as well as to ensure that the survivors dress like Batman.

Hmm, it seems the word "Republican" is a synonym for the Inquisition.

Obama has said he would veto these bills, and there is a small probability he actually would with the election coming up, but don't count on that.

The cynic in me agrees.
If SOPA is denied, there is still PIPA.
If PIPA is denied, there can still be lobbied trough another law with the same content and different name until it passes.
So even if SOPA, PIPA, AIPA, AEPA or SSPA is not passed, the next bill could be passed in silence.

Or they could bundle the bill along with neccesities, just like how they did with the Healthcare reform(which also was butchered), or with the recent law allowing a "police state" by arresting anybody for "doing something". Well, Obama COULD have vetoed it, and let a whole lot of the army go without any budget. And then be sweared for it.
And this has nothing to do with the party battle either, its just a side effect of having a political system where you allow corruptions. Basically they are voting "yay" because most of them will be rewarded if the bill passes in some form. So they will pass it, if the public is not roaring and rampaging enough. Or as said, it will merely be a attachment of something that must be passed, so it will be passed regardless.

So 1984 here we come, well for you. For the rest of us it may even be a matter of time before the police stat creeps into our systems. The only exception seems to be Switzerland and China and a few more. Switzerland because of its extra security in their system, and China because its already a authorian state but being the underdog of corporations is not their style.

Its not about political parties.
Passing out laws that affect the average user more than anything else is crap and anti-productive. These laws will just isolate the US from the rest of the world. The world might aswell follow these type of crap and there would be no more "Free internetz".

All hail to Sweeden!

If the American people don't outright revolt if these bills were to pass, the internet is doomed.

But let's be honest here. Is it even conceivable they would be able to outright block sites and communities like Google, Facebook, Youtube, Wikipedia, etc, WITHOUT it causing massive outcry and possibly revolutions?

I did not experience any black out. I used wikipedia a lot yesterday.

The government is ultimately controlled by the people it governs. It stands to reason that no matter what the government decides, if the end result is unpopular enough the decisions will be remade.
